Sports Science did an episode on this and making a field goal with the laces in was more or less potluck. IIRC, the ball will travel further with the laces in, but if the foot hits the laces, you can't control it.

From what I recall, the laces couldn't have been more centered in the back if they tried. The kicker could not have avoided them. How much did that factor in the miss? Heck if I know, but I'll bet a kicker could tell you.

Well, it was shorter than a PAT

I know, for whatever reason before he kicked it I had a feeling he was going to shank it and thinking would that be devastating. Then he turns around and misses it, not even close. As I said I'm not letting him off the hook, just not letting Peterson off either.

Felt bad for him and the Vikings fans...tough way to lose a game when it looks like it was a chip shot and a win.
