I Was Wrong About Kellen The Hammer Moore

I've never seen a guy who keeps falling up. He gets run out of Dallas and immediately get the same job in SD. Then he washes out there quickly and lands the same job in Philly where he's got AJ Brown , Barkley, and the best OL in football. Now he's a HC.

. He will probably get fired in 2-3 years and land the MNF job.

Kellen Moore was the Cowboys offensive coordinator when the Cowboys had the #1 offense twice in three seasons and under two different head coaches in 2019 and 2021

In 2019 he used rookie Pollard to relieve Zeke Elliott as the Cowboys averaged 4.8 yards a carry. The Cowboys were 178 yards short of having all three receivers with a thousand-yard season.

Of the Cowboys 65 seasons in their history, 2021 is ranked 2nd only to the legendary 1966 team in average points per game with 31.2 points.

As the Cowboys OC in 2024, Schottenheimer's offense is ranked 49th in Cowboys history. He is our new head coach.

Moore was OC for the Chargers in 2023, a season in which both the HC and GM were fired before the end of the season. Obviously, it did nothing to damage his reputation and credentials as the Eagles scooped him right up.

Were they wrong?

Why would Moore not want to coach a team he has already demonstrated proven success?

The answer is obvious.
Great post, as usual, @plasticman.

I have been wrong about Kellen Moore. While I disagree with hiring him as a QB coach with zero experience since we were not rebuilding that year, I think it’s obvious “The Hammer” is a great offensive coordinator, especially when he is coaching for a) an elite organization, b) with an elite GM, and c) an owner who is not stepping in front of every camera at every possible opportunity.
Moore had a the #1 offense for this non elite organization(top 5 every year Dak was healthy), that does not have an elite GM(your and many other ill informed view... Just a GM who provided him just as much talent as that elite organization), and with the owner stepping in front of every camera at every opportunity...

Non falsehood fly zone with Game around

During his time here he produced the 2nd most productive offense in the entire league behind only the Chiefs and he did it with Dak Prescott as his QB.

Nothing more needs to be said. Everyone should have known what he was when he left.

I've been on his bandwagon everywhere he's been as a coordinator however, I'm questioning him as a head coach. But we'll see.

The list of good to great OCs and DCs who were flops as HCs is as long as my leg.

And I've got long legs, lol.

But agreed, we'll see how he does when, and if, he goes to New Orleans and inherits a team full of end-of-their- career players, has to set up a new coaching staff and have a has been (at best) quarterback to run the team.

Well the best part of this debate is within 5 months we are going to start getting some answers.

Moore deserves his shot at an NFL head coaching job and it will be interesting to see how he does.

I still marvel at the fans that can’t believe he selected any team over Dallas. Why would Moore return to Dallas to be Jerry’s scapegoat assistant TO the head coach (ref: The Office).

I maligned Moore during his tenure under head coach Jones and I was wrong. Consider this my public apology lol.
Art, “The Hammer” was a success in Philly for sure but he certainly had a lot more to work with than he did while working for the chargers.

Will be interested to see what happens for Hammer boy in New Orleans where the rebuild is starting and they need help almost everywhere. He will certainly have a chance to show us what he’s made of.

Dude there's four other Kellen Moore post and I completely disagree with your premise unless it was sarcasm which it doesn't look like it is but we don't need that many Kelly Moore post when he started Dallas cowboy he was the charger why don't we talk about his charger days I mean he's already been gone awhile and I'm sick of talking about him you could have just posted somewhere else that's got Kelly Moore's name in it all over this and it's out of control now somebody needs to convert all these into one merge the damn moore post or move them.. Because he's no longer in the NFC East he's no longer in a direct rival position for us there's no reason to be talking about him I like our coaching staff that we have right now better and it's no regret..

Actually Jerry rejected Kelly Moore Kelly Moore wanted to be here he never got his second interview because Brian schottenheimer stole it away from him it even was the surprise that Jerry was a surprise to us but Kelly Moore did not say no to the Dallas Cowboys would be here right now if Jerry wanted him so would BillB

so kudos to the wonder boy who got picked last the last job opening you know when you're picked last in the schoolyard you know what that means yeah writing's on the wall and he's way behind on building his staff he's now gonna have to pick the leftovers if this was Jerry doing this that's what you'd be saying he waited too long he hesitated the Saints are gonna be way behind.

If you think for a minute he turned this job down you're as foggy and as delusional as everyone else around here who never wanted the guy and now all of a sudden he went from dud to stud because of the Immaculate roster he was handed that I'm betting I could have just called schoolyard please 5 basic plays on offense with the way that defense was and I could've won that Super Bowl as well it doesn't take a unique elite play caller with that much talent to make sure they just run stock plays and beat people on the best offensive and defensive lines in football that's why the eagles won the Super bowl not because of Kelly Moore..
You don’t have the first clue what occurred during the hiring process. If Moore gets a contract that pays him more than the Cowboys are paying Schottenheimer then he came out ahead. Both teams stink.

Yeah it's way too early to tell. He gets credit for this season, in the best of circumstances. I'll wait to see what he does with a much worse roster.
Have we not already seen that scenario when he was with the Cowboys? Just sayin. :)

It's funny how KM seems to be the only one who gets an asterisk for having a "stacked offense" in Philly, as if that’s the only reason he succeeded. I don’t mean to be rude, but....duh. Doesn’t that help any offensive coordinator? Does Ben Johnson get the same treatment for having a stacked offense in Detroit?

It’s interesting how people’s takes often seem shaped by biases or whatever supports their narrative, probably because he's an ex-Cowboy.

I'm stunned you and I disagree on anything.

well I was opposed to him being hired initially. why? not because I didn't think he would be good, but that he was green. every NFL coordinator has to go through the ringer of the NFL and learn. and he did his learning the first time around with cowboys. sharpened his teeth in SD, learned and used in in Philly.

now, if we had strong coaching team at the time and he would have started as a coach and learn from an experienced coordinator (not an ancient one), then he would have been great, specially for a team that at the time claimed to be ready for a run. you don't make a run at the superbowl with a first year OC, with all of one year coaching experience.

so the option would have been for them to continue to keep Moore, but then it would be similar situation to wade, where he shoved Garrett on him and then shoved Moore on garrett and then Moore onto MM. its not a good dynamic. it was painfully obvious the coaches were never on the same page.
That was my issue with his hiring - he was too green.

So who can't believe he selected NO over Dallas?
Cowboy fans of course who think players and sometime coaches should offer a hometown discount to the owner who is more concerned with profit margins than championships. The same idiots that think Parsons should sign a long term deal here to squander his entire career on a team that will never get past the divisional round.

You'll see Hazey, It'll be "Hammer Time" in New Orleans soon enough!!
