I Was Wrong About Kellen The Hammer Moore

Kellen Moore was the Cowboys offensive coordinator when the Cowboys had the #1 offense twice in three seasons and under two different head coaches in 2019 and 2021

In 2019 he used rookie Pollard to relieve Zeke Elliott as the Cowboys averaged 4.8 yards a carry. The Cowboys were 178 yards short of having all three receivers with a thousand-yard season.

Of the Cowboys 65 seasons in their history, 2021 is ranked 2nd only to the legendary 1966 team in average points per game with 31.2 points.

As the Cowboys OC in 2024, Schottenheimer's offense is ranked 49th in Cowboys history. He is our new head coach.

Moore was OC for the Chargers in 2023, a season in which both the HC and GM were fired before the end of the season. Obviously, it did nothing to damage his reputation and credentials as the Eagles scooped him right up.

Were they wrong?

Why would Moore not want to coach a team he has already demonstrated proven success?

The answer is obvious.
schottenheimer's offense?...he was o.c. in title only.
he didn't even call plays.
this was mccarthy's o all the way.

so kudos to the wonder boy who got picked last the last job opening you know when you're picked last in the schoolyard you know what that means yeah writing's on the wall and he's way behind on building his staff he's now gonna have to pick the leftovers if this was Jerry doing this that's what you'd be saying he waited too long he hesitated the Saints are gonna be way behind.
If Jerry hired Kellen you would be fawning all over him

I think that too. When MM was rolling out sets that looked like the 80s 49ers early 2023 season it was obvious who was designing the offense. He was literally installing his system from the ground up.

You don’t have the first clue what occurred during the hiring process. If Moore gets a contract that pays him more than the Cowboys are paying Schottenheimer then he came out ahead. Both teams stink.
He is a Jerry fan boy don't mind him.

Cowboy fans of course who think players and sometime coaches should offer a hometown discount to the owner who is more concerned with profit margins than championships. The same idiots that think Parsons should sign a long term deal here to squander his entire career on a team that will never get past the divisional round.
Oh...i thought you could actually show someone. My bad.

I have been wrong about Kellen Moore. While I disagree with hiring him as a QB coach with zero experience since we were not rebuilding that year, I think it’s obvious “The Hammer” is a great offensive coordinator, especially when he is coaching for a) an elite organization, b) with an elite GM, and c) an owner who is not stepping in front of every camera at every possible opportunity.

Moore deserves his shot at an NFL head coaching job and it will be interesting to see how he does.

I still marvel at the fans that can’t believe he selected any team over Dallas. Why would Moore return to Dallas to be Jerry’s scapegoat assistant TO the head coach (ref: The Office).

I maligned Moore during his tenure under head coach Jones and I was wrong. Consider this my public apology lol.
Moore suffered the same fate as all of our OC before him who had to work with our QB.

They all had to trim down their playcalls to a critcial level because our elite QB is so hamstrung in what he actually is able to do on a constant basis.

Then people who have no clue started to criticize our OC for not being innovative enough. Using always the same predictable plays. They questioned the talent of our OC.

And thats to that.

Scapegoat.

Now you have real talent at the HC position. I hope everybody is happy.

Dude there's four other Kellen Moore post and I completely disagree with your premise unless it was sarcasm which it doesn't look like it is but we don't need that many Kelly Moore post when he started Dallas cowboy he was the charger why don't we talk about his charger days I mean he's already been gone awhile and I'm sick of talking about him you could have just posted somewhere else that's got Kelly Moore's name in it all over this and it's out of control now somebody needs to convert all these into one merge the damn moore post or move them.. Because he's no longer in the NFC East he's no longer in a direct rival position for us there's no reason to be talking about him I like our coaching staff that we have right now better and it's no regret..

Actually Jerry rejected Kelly Moore Kelly Moore wanted to be here he never got his second interview because Brian schottenheimer stole it away from him it even was the surprise that Jerry was a surprise to us but Kelly Moore did not say no to the Dallas Cowboys would be here right now if Jerry wanted him so would BillB

so kudos to the wonder boy who got picked last the last job opening you know when you're picked last in the schoolyard you know what that means yeah writing's on the wall and he's way behind on building his staff he's now gonna have to pick the leftovers if this was Jerry doing this that's what you'd be saying he waited too long he hesitated the Saints are gonna be way behind.

If you think for a minute he turned this job down you're as foggy and as delusional as everyone else around here who never wanted the guy and now all of a sudden he went from dud to stud because of the Immaculate roster he was handed that I'm betting I could have just called schoolyard please 5 basic plays on offense with the way that defense was and I could've won that Super Bowl as well it doesn't take a unique elite play caller with that much talent to make sure they just run stock plays and beat people on the best offensive and defensive lines in football that's why the eagles won the Super bowl not because of Kelly Moore..
We don't need unreadable "Tolstoy" posts either.. but we tolerate them.

and if you are sick of talking about him.. then stop talking about him.. it really isn't that hard.

He'll be our offensive coordinator in 2 years when he fails in New Orleans. Unless we are doing well.

Kellen Moore sucks. Just because philly won a SB with him at as an OC means nothing when they made it to a SB 2 years ago without him there.

You do remember that Dak was within 10 yards of breaking Romos passing yards record in a single season but Jerry called all running plays to ensure his boy kept the record.

No excuses, I don't expect Kellen to be immediately successful in New Orleans. I doubt the Saints expect immediate success. And I hope he surprises.

I’d love to see the posts of folks on this forum and what their opinion was regarding how “loaded” the Eagles were before the season…

Moore didn’t wash out in LA,

The Chargers refused all interviews for him, until Harbaugh took the job with complete control and brought in his own staff, otherwise he was staying. Harbaugh brought in Roman, a Harbaugh guy and the Chargers fans absolutely despise him,

Herbert broke his hand and could hardly hold the ball with both of them for a large part of the season, Mike Williams got injured early, their OL was battered, they had Staley blowing leads regularly, QJ, who was known for all his drops in college was a guaranteed drop,

This was last year when he improved, let alone 2023z

Ekeler as washed, their OL coach was a leftover from the Lombardi era and so on.

Before everything fell apart with injuries and Staley’s after half defense, Keenan Allen had a game where he caught 18 of 20 passes for 225 yards while Mike Williams caught 7 balls for 121 yards. Their first game they 208 yards rushing.

Staley’s job was in jeopardy by half the season and

Mostly agree. He did pretty well in Dallas, was likely let go because he wasn't a McCarthy guy more so than the results werent there.an LA was a tough gig as the injuries piled up. Go to Philly and you walk into one of the best situations in football. Moore seems like a good offensive mind, but like most coaches it comes down to the talent level of the team you have that determines if you can succeed or not. For that reason I too expect he struggles in New Orleans. If he doesnt he deserves a TON of credit.
I believed Moore was allowed to be let go to LA Chargers - becuz of his OC failures in the playoffs -mainly vs Niners in back to back playoff years
- despite his regular season stat success ( No.1 in NFL in Red Zone)

Maybe McCarthy convinced the frustrated Jones that Kellen did not have what it took to advance the team further in the playoffs.
Thus Kellen became the scapegoat for Cowboys playoff failures vs Niners ...

And it's much easier to be a "great offensive coordinator" when you have the no. 1 defense, no. 1 defensive line, great offensive line and a great running back as well.
and a HC in Nick Sirianni that oversees and makes sure Kellen doesn't abandon the run ....

Tush push also helped the offense especially at the goal line

Why what? New Orleans is bottom third offense and defense. New Orleans knows New Orleans is bad.

Mike McCarthy knew New Orleans was bad. He chose door #2: EXIT.

Kellen can improve all over the field, but will it be reflected in their record? Everybody agrees he's football smart, intelligent, so he's studied the roster and schedule and has a plan.

Of course, everybody has a plan until they get smacked in the face. (Take note Schotty)
