Jane Slater breaks down Cowboys' offseason moves so far 'The Insiders'

The worrisome thing for me was that she essentially said 'expect business as usual' when she said, 'you know what things are like in Dallas.'

Yes, we do, Jane. Yes, we do.

My biggest fear pimp is that we miss out on a RB with the 12th pick, and THEN there's a run on RB's and we end up getting a RB that isn't that great like the ones we could have gotten earlier
I hear you, but I think it all depends on what they do in free agency prior to the draft. If they open the check book and put this team in position to be a top RB away from doing some damage this season then I'm all for taking a RB high. If its a repeat of last year then taking a RB at #12 just feels like a waste.

I have no personal knowledge of exactly how New Orleans will BUT I do know most incoming head coach hires have a large say. Especially when its their offense or their defense. And I know Sean Payton had a LARGE say when he was Saints HC. And I do know they picked Kellen and locked him down well before he was free to take the job. He was coveted and had options.

Most mocks have them drafting a DE. Plenty of need there and lots of DEs in this class.

But most of those mocks also reference new coach Kellen Moore. And I doubt Mickey Loomis is going to freeze out a new head coach to draft given Loomis himself is on the hot seat.
Yeah the way that most teams are run has the coaching staff telling the scouts/GM what to look for. KM wont be actually making the selection, but KM will be giving the front office his review of the current roster, traits/profile he wants in rookies at each position, etc. KM will have a ton of influence....the GM is trying to find guys to fit they style he wants for the football team afterall.

If we don't trade back, I do not want to see a RB as the first pick. If we do trade back and a top DT talent is on the board, I want that DT.

Our defense gave up 2331 rushing yards last season, 29th out of 32nd in the league. Here is another way to look at this:

Dallas wins: Defense gives up an average of 95 yards per game
Dallas loss: Defense gives up 166.5 yards per game.

And another defensive stat that might surprise a few: We only gave up 300+ yards through the air twice. Eight times we held the opposition to under 200 yards passing.

Sure, everyone wants to be able to control the ball using the ground game. But if you can't get the ball back enough to do this because the other team is ramming the ball down our throat, the ball control strategy goes out the window. RBBC is probably the way to go. Most teams do this in the NFL anyway. How many teams in the playoffs this year had a true stud #1? Philly, Balt, and Minny. Two of those teams didn't even make their championship games. Unless you think someone like AJ is the next Barkley or Henry--and I doubt that he is--then fix the festering cancer that is our interior d-line. Also, if Mazi is what he is (no leap in improved play), and you don't grab a DT this year, you will need two of them next year. It's almost like we were cursed for not taking Fletcher Cox in the 2012 draft. It's the football gods saying we aren't deserving of a real DT that will be with us for 10-12 years.

Fix the D-line now!!!

I'm sorry dude but you're missing the point!

I didn't say the Saints wouldn't consider it, I'm saying that Moore does not have any influence at this point in time..

if you think that then why do we even argue about what a regular GM is on a regular team where the owner is not the GM they're literally make the decisions, and they usually do not include the head coach unless he's been there awhile..

a brand new head coach late to the game never been a head coach before that's green is not going to get the voice you think he is, he's brand new to New Orleans he has his hands full just putting together his staff right now which is not finished they're all going to be new in that building..
therefore the GM, the owner , &the scouts in New Orleans will be making this decision, sure lots of people are going to be considering AJ in the top 10, for sure ,but I'm saying Kelly Moore is not going to be influencing them because he's from Boise State and so is AJ it's not going to be a factor, he's not going to be able to just walk in there and say that's what I want ,that's what I want, and you better do it!!
that is what I was saying, that just because he's from Boise State which by the way we have people on our staff that also has a relationship with AJ but that doesn't mean he's landing here either.

.
You don’t know how much influence Moore has in deference to who the Saints draft. You have no idea the process the Cowboys use in deciding who to draft.

I don’t think they need to break the bank to be successful. But they need a solid 3-4 starters via free agency

two things, 1...of course coaches have influence

does he have final say, I'd guess no but he has influence

and two...I think you might be taking a "hold my beer" joke too literal

I guess you could argue whether or not Kellen Moore even drinks beer, but since I don't follow the Saints closely enough to even predict who they'd pick me saying "hold my beer" wasn't a very serious comment

Honestly nothing Dallas can do about that so I wouldn't spend 1 second worried about it.
Kellen loves Boise and loves a run game so he could def go that direction. If so someone else falls.
Honestly, I just think it's something that could happen and I'm not really worried one way or the other

My choice at 12? Any of the OTs that are there

I don't think Dallas will, but Guyton would be much better at RT and Campbell, Banks, or Simmons at LT

Knowing how Jerry operates, you just know he’ll probably wanna try and recreate 2016’s magic by pairing Dak with a fresher version of Zeke in Jeanty.

They also historically have like Boise State players.

Writing seems to be on the wall.

We’ll see.
Another first rounder burned on a RB instead of the trenches

a very valid plan.
