Witten, Dez and Sean Lee eligible for HOF next year

Witten is a HOF..

My top 5 TE all time..

1. Gronk
2. Kelce
3. Tony G
4. Witten
5. Gates
The HOF Monitor table is good even if you disagree with the ranking. Give a lot of information.

Gonzalez was 6 time AP1 and was Pro Bowl 14 out of 16 years, and that was back when Pro Bowls used to mean a bit more. I say he's the GOAT.

Casper and Sharpe were both 4 time AP1 and had rings plural. I'd put both above Witten.

I think Witten belongs in the HOF, I just think given the TEs they've recently let in and the TEs to come, it may be a while for Witten.

Mine:
Gonzalez
Kelce
Gronk, Casper, Sharpe
Gates, Witten, Winslow

Mackey and Ditka I just don't know about, but probably should get in conversation too.

Personally I'm biased toward AP1 seasons.
Gronk and Kelce have twice what Witten has, *and* the rings.

They're higher priority, and both are 1st ballot.

5 in a decade, after only 7 prior in the entire history of the NFL?
I just don't think so.
agree about All Pro being the decider. Pro Bowl is garbage now. Kelce is still playing so there is at least five years before he can be voted on and I bet he comes back next year. Gronk is not eligible until 2027. FIgure Gates gets in next year then Kelce the year after so I think witten will make it in 2028.

I would hope that the HOF voters do not put much currency in rings; that is a team thing not an individual. Like all those that think because Dumb Face has two rings mostly due to his defense then he deserves to be in.

They're not doing three first ballots, and if they do two, will be Fitz and Brees.

Brees and Fitz are locked locks that lock

Rivers, I see him on the same level as Romo to be honest. Very good, but not at that HOF level. Threw a lot of picks

Witten has a chance at 1st ballot too.

Gore had the longevity, but even then he's 20th in rushing TDS.
Only 1 All-pro season, #2 team.
Did make the All Decade team in 1910, I mean 2010, and handful of probowls.

Think he will get in at some point due to the bulk rushing stats.
Yeah, I never understood the Gore love. Longevity was his bag, not on field brilliance.

He’ll never get in and you can book it! He wasn’t even close to being a HOF QB. That’s just being honest. Some of you don’t seem to understand what the HOF is all about.
Just like Dumb Face should not get in.

Longevity is nice; but average longevity is just that and he made second team all pro once and that was it.
When I saw he had made the 2010 all decade team, I wondered who had paid the bribe money.
he was very good for a long time but that does not deserve the HOF

Witten won't be first ballet.

My Top TE list:

1. Tony G.
2. Kelcie
3. A. Gates
4. K. Winslow
5. Gronk
6. Shannon Sharpe
7. Witten
You putting Winslow up there got me thinking about another Award - All Decade Team.

All Decade Team 1st 2nd
60s Ditka Mackey
70s Casper Sanders
80s Winslow Newsome
90s Sharpe Coates
00s Gonzalez Gates
10s Gronk Kelce

No TE not on an All Decade Team is in the HOF.
Every TE on an All Decade team, but Ben Coates, is in the HOF.

Witten ain't on that list. Another dark sign for his chances.

All Decade Team arbitrarily depreciates Witten and Kelce whose prime years spanned 2 decades, but it is what it is.

The NFL has chosen to award players by Decade Teams, and Witten didn't make the cut even by 2nd Team.

I always assumed Witten would make HOF 1st ballot, but after looking into it in this thread, I'm thinking he's definitely not 1st ballot, and likely doesn't get in for years as they put Gronk and Kelce in before him.

You look at the 1960's all decade team and you will find a lot of them are not in the HOF. Seems like that was not really respected until the 1970's.

Gates made it this year.
Gronk's last year was 2021. That means 2026 is his first chance, right?
I think you meant Gronk after Gates, not Kelce.

Kelce had a huge drop off in ypt this year, 6.2 is really just bad, and his previous year was his previous worst year. Kelce could linger on and put another weak season or two on books as long as they're serious contenders. But the end is approaching and the HOF voters can see it coming.

With only around 5 going into the HOF a year, I just don't see them giving so many to TEs in such a short period. Gates just went in. Gronk is next. And then Kelce will be on the horizon. Witten would have a better chance if Kelce weren't on the horizon.

And I think they just *do* weigh rings a lot. Without the rings, no one would even be talking about Eli.

Dumb Face - ha ha. Eli Face is my term for Dumb Face

I think the 60s they're dealing with pre merger too so maybe were counting each league separately pre merger?

I want the HOF to be what it was when I was kid...for ALL-TIME GREATS. It's become an honorary retirement award.
  • So Sean Lee is a NO. You can't be that brittle and be a HOFer
  • Dez is a HARD NO. And sadly one day he probably will get in. But Dez was MAYBE top 5 when he was playing. One year he was top 2. But he couldn't even run the complete route tree...NO.
  • Witten is a MAYBE. He was a very good tight end for a very long time, but Shannon Sharpe was a 3 time SB winner and held a bunch of records and didn't get in until his 3rd try. I'm good with Witten in year 15 of eligibility or something like that.
  • Darren Woodson - I loved him on the 90s teams. He was a special teams demon and a very good safety who could cover and run support. That said...he is not a HOFer...his peers always boxed him out of all-pro or the pro-bowl...sometimes he got in as an alternate. Again, really good...but not all-time great.

Honestly, Darren isn’t HOF caliber but to Dallas fans and geeks like us. He just transitioned from undersized LB to safety.

There at some examples of anti-Cowboys bias but he isn’t a legit claim to it.

Jason Witten is fourth All-Time in receptions in NFL history. Not for tight ends. There are only three players to ever play the game that have caught more balls than him…….All-time.

He has 13k yards receiving and over 70 touchdowns. Not to mention was one of the better blocking tight ends in the league.

I realize getting into the Hall is a big popularity contest but considering who they have let in….Witten should be a lock.

None get in on the 1st ballot. Witten and Dez in the 1st 5 years. Don't see Lee making it. Woodson probably on 1st year of senior eligible.

Next year probably sees Manning and Brees along with Fitzgerald and Suggs. Rivers a maybe along with about 10 others. Could see 4 or 5 tie for 5th guy.
