QB option no 2 could be Derek Carr

I made the case for Matthew Stafford as a possibility and if Det decides to go with Tua I believe it would be a great move to trade for Stafford but only a smart f.o. would make that move. Feels like a Patriots or Saints maneuver.

I would not cave to Dak. I would tag him with the non-exclusive tag and offer him 4 options.
1. sign the tag and play for 27 mil
2. Sign a long term deal at 30 mil per
3. Sign the tag and find a team willing to trade for you.
4. Don't sign the tag and play in the XFL

He would either realize that 30 mil per plus the endorsement opps that come with being the QB for Americas team is a pretty good life or feel disrespected and find a team willing to pay him what he wants and pony up the picks.

So what happens if he finds another team?

This is where QB option no 2 comes in. Derek Carr!

Why would the Raiders do it?
Brady to Raiders is one of the hottest rumors around.
Their f.o is infatuated with Brady
moving to Las Vegas and want to establish a fan base.

Why would Dallas do it?
gain 2 1st rd picks
get a franchise QB at about half the price.
3 years left on a very affordable contract.
Would be able to keep and sign plenty of F.A's.

Carr threw for over 4000 yards last year with a completion percentage over 70% and a very good td to interception ratio. Had inferior receivers. I would rank him a notch below Dak but at half price a better option.
2 first round picks and Derek Carr with MM and KM getting him right, that's not a bad 2nd option.

If Dak is as good as some here claim to be then 2 firsts is what we should be able to get somewhat easily. Funny how there are crickets after that...
Mostly it appears to be the peeps that want 2 firsts for him are the ones who don't like him.
Some levels of hypocrisy have to be involved in this level of decision making.

By rule they are not required to negotiate. One instance is Sean Gilbert, and possibly the precedent...

"The Commanders made Gilbert their franchise player, but rather than sign the one-year $3.4 million tender offer, Gilbert sat out the 1997 season. After the 1997 season the Commanders again made Gilbert a franchise player, this time offering a one-year contract for $2.97 million (the average of the 5 highest paid DTs). Gilbert objected and asked for arbitration saying the Commanders did not have the right to place their franchise player tag on him for a second straight year.

On March 17, 1998, the NFLPA and the NFL had an all-day hearing to resolve the case.

"The Commanders received compensation of two first round draft picks from the Carolina Panthers for not matching the Panthers offer of 46.5 million dollars."

If the agent wants to play hardball, we play.

Nobody is playing hardball. Nothing is going to be signed until this deal with the nfl and nflpa is sorted out or until the new salary cap is released to see how much it goes up. I dont see how hard is for people to understand this. No agent representing a QB would be dumb enough to settle a deal before the cap is announced. He'd never get another QB client again.

I like Carr way more then most on this board. Again, it depends the money but I think that if you put Carr on this team, he could have success. I would not be inclined to pay more for Carr over Dak but if we got him for say 27, I think the production would remain on par.

I'm going to go ahead and go open a beer now. I feel like I will need it after the shelling starts over this post.

Everybody, have a great weekend!

You ain’t getting 2 first for any QB not under contract
Why would a team give you two first and then pay him or let him walk

I like Dak but no one and I mean no one in their right mind is going to trade 2 1s for Dak. There is only 1 qb that I think a team would trade 2 1s for and that is Patrick Mahomes.

this kind of bull ish drives me insane “oh if you think this, you must also think this more absurd thing”

I think Dak is worth a contract in the realm they’re discussing. I do not think that he is also worth two additional first round picks

Read my post directly above my reply to you.
Still don't know exactly what your saying. Anyway, I'm not against Dak or taking any side on anything...just that if Stephen n Dak can't make it work the scenario presented would be about as good as they could do for a fallback.

I'll simplify:
It's seems that many of the peeps that want Dak gone also think he's valuable enough for 2 1st round picks, which is a king's ransom when you also include he's up for a huge contract.
There are levels of real hypocrisy of some who think he's not worth being here, but worth a king's ransom from someone else.

Dak would be a downgrade for the Raiders. Carr had a slightly higher QB rating overall and a much higher rating when Dak wasn't padding his stats against the Skins/Giants combo.

Dak doesn't have this high league wide value like his slobberers think. I was reading an article where some former league executives don't even think Dak is as good as Darnold. The league wide perception is that he's just a guy standing in a pocket throwing to open guys and I think Dak would get his feelings hurt if he were slapped with a transition tag.
