I didn't like your answer because what you said was wrong and I proved it. You couldn't debate it so you said something silly like 1 superbowl win sounds good to cowboys fans.
Well doesn’t it sound good?Who wouldn’t trade our era for that?

Your argument is spun to suit your narrative. It’s not realistic . Only serves to prove your point.

In the end their era has been more successful with a Super Bowl. What else matters. The rest is crappola for a Silly narrative to probably either defend Dak or the Cowboys. Lol

We still have the greater obstacle to overcome. The one who’s determine our fate with current contract negotiations. Not to mention FA and draft coming up.

And that doesn’t take into account the toxic atmosphere and continued dysfunction that a better coaching decision can’t shake the meddling and interference.

All we can hope is on Game Day it’s enough to make a bigger difference.

We have to be patient and see how it plays out but like Joe said we are at least going in a positive direction now and Mac seems to have power Garrett never had so hopefully it keeps Jerrys interference dialed back to the point we can make progress .

That wasn't your argument though. You said an elite QB like Rodgers and Brees will always keep you in contention and making deep playoff runs and superbowls. That statement you made was false, now you try to spin it into something about Dak and Dallas fans.

Stop running around the bush, just admit you weren't correct and move on. If you want to say those two players got 1 superbowl ring in the last decade or so and Dallas has 0 than I would agree. That's not what you said though.

Elite QB’s are the clearest path to remain a consistent contender over an era despite other weaknesses and shortcoming on the roster due to the Cap.

And the more times you can take it to the brink the more opportunity you have of breaking thru.

Limiting the results to only winning Super Bowls is creating a narrative to support an argument.

The teams with Elite QB’s are more often and consistently making deep runs in the playoffs to championship games and Super Bowls.
I don’t know Mr. Mahomes sucked. Worst quarterback playoffs in the Super Bowl in eight seasons. That includes Tom Brady and Jared Goff’s Super Bowl year. You win with teams not quarterbacks it’s not the same old NFL

Well Mahomes did have the first passing touchdown in a SB since Foles' in SB LII. :muttley:

The media needs a lover boy, Aaron Rodgers isn’t cutting it any longer. Other than the Hail Mary. You can’t deny it horrible. But you’re right You need a complete team. I wanted the 49ers to win that as much as I disapprove them going to the Super Bowl a second time before us

Yes, they do keep you in contention most years. Your just wanting to dissect it . Brees and the Saints might not fit the mold as well as others still with those Elite QB’s you are always arguably considered a contender. Does it happen year. Of course not.

https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/af283d/percentage_of_salary_cap_taken_up_by_super_bowl/

In year 1 of the cap, Young was taking 13.1% of it in 1994. Since then, the highest is 11.7%. The AVERAGE is 6.7% because most of these guys were on their rookie deals or just journeymen.

Its absolutely mind numbing that NFL teams think they can beat this trend. I have no clue why the market for QB's is so absurd. My elite QB making $5m is always going to beat your elite QB making $35m. The amount of talent you can get for that extra $30m is ridiculous. You are talking about multiple all pro's at that point.

I'm kind of resigned to Dak getting a stupid contract at this point. I just hope its structured so that the first few years are a low cap hit. Based on the above, Dak's first 2-3 years would have to be 11% of the cap or less.
Good information, so it seems it will get harder to build a super bowl winning team when the quarterback is getting paid more than 13 %.
what is the projected percentage dak's would be? I think i heard someone saying 20 percent? probably not right but just curious.

So, what’s the percentage without an Elite QB?

Maybe teams should stop pursuing a great QB? Lol

The NFL is a QB league and why they are paid the most and teams go to such extremes to acquire one.

The rest are scrambling to surround a lesser QB and or waiting for an opportunity to acquire a better one.

The rest is about fans making excuses for their QB or spinning stats or facts to support you dont need an Elite QB.

Greg, I was more wondering about the percentage. It not really about elite, but how much you can give up and still win the big game.

It dosent look like very much to me . Are the Packers , Seahawks , Vikings , Steelers Lions winning SBs

Pats with the GOAT at a very reasonable figure are pretty consistent at it , A guy that not only elevates the players around him but plays cheap seems to be the answer.

How much was Nick Foles and Wentz making together when they won it How about Flacco and Wilson when they won SBs or Mahomes this year Didnt Peyton take a pay cut in 2015 so the Broncos could get it done .

This isnt about Dak wanting to get paid THEY ALL WANT AND DO GET PAID . The difference is their respective franchises dont SQUANDER their rookie contracts and provide the team with talent and coaching to get it done before THEY HAVE TO PAY THEM!!!!

We didnt make use of the window of opportunity and IMO it dosent matter if its 30 or 40 MIL WE NEEDED TO GET IT DONE WHILE IT WAS 650K
Now we will be a few players away like all the rest of the teams that have had to pay . No matter how well we are coached or how well Dak plays it wont equal the 6-8 impact players we could have for 30 -40 mil

Whatever you want.

The Dakster apologist want to spin a narrative for non elite QB’s.

Then we better build an Elite defense because with rare exception that’s what is carrying these less than Elite QB’s to championship appearances.

This years Super Bowl was another great example you need an Elite QB or defense. We have neither.

I spoke with clear English. It needs no translation and I don't need you putting words in my mouth. The D has to get better, the ST has to get better. The team can afford to get all this done. And yes, coaching matters. Give the new coaching staff a chance.
I agree, and hopefully the new coaches can help make smarter draft picks.
But the jones boys like bargains, which is what they thought gregory, jaylon,
and trysten were.
So can the new coaches keep them from picking those project bargains?
If you ask me I think Dak should have been paid before elliot and tank and jaylon. I dont think I would have paid big any of those guys.
I even think byron jones is more valuable than those guys.

So jones boys have already made some mistakes paying big to players
and still have not signed jones cooper and dak, who in my opinion are more
valuable than the other 3. That hurts, and no telling what they do now.

I totally support Dak and have no problem with him getting paid ITS HIS TIME. He paid his dues and has given us extremely good value durability and leadership . I am totally excited about finally having a real NFL coaching staff .

My beef is why did it take so long for Jerry to put some value on coaching and make Dak and many of our other good players waste 4 yrs under mediocre coaching . Other franchises that have a GMs that run things like a business make a push to get to a SB while their young players are working for reasonable numbers . That means assembling an elite coaching staff first not making a project out of your pet cat and wasting a bunch of good players careers in the process
Its not just Dak we have to pay but his salary is the one with the biggest increase so it gets the most attention . What about the other players we have to sign or lose talent .

Am I the only one who finds it hard to believe if we sign all our guys it will have no effect on who we sign in the future ??
I agree dak paid his dues and deserves a good contract.
I am totally excited about finally having a real NFL coaching staff ........me too lol I am still in shock about that.
why did it take so long for Jerry ? they are the jones boys, they think they are smarter than everyone else . They built the staff and tried to make a HC, it took 10 years, but finally they saw it wasnt working, so that is good.
But it took way too long, and now they wasted tonys final years, and all of
daks rookie contract.
They have to deal with that now and who knows what they will do .

The salary cap is projected to be 200 million next season.

when Russell Wilson signed his record breaking contract last off season. His salary cap hit the first season was 26 million.

so IF Dak signed a deal as big as Russell. Which remains a big IF. His salary cap hit would be 26 mil next season. Which would be 13% of 200 mil.

And all of these are IF’s. We don’t know that Dak is asking for a contract that size and we know nothing about the potential structure of the deal. The cap hit could be theoretically lower.

Garappalo was the highest paid QB like 2 seasons ago. He was like 8th or 9th this season.

Your point about Dak deserving to be paid before Zeke is well taken. I agree. I think that was the plan until Zeke forced them to change it.

Regardless if the cowboys keep or don’t keep Dak.

They unquestionably flushed their best chance to win a Super Bowl with Dak, down the toilet, by having an incompetent like Jason Garrett as the head coach.

Thanks Jerry and thanks Redball.

My answer to the op, is that you can win with a high paid qb, it has been done, but having a great defense and a smart bus driver qb is I think the better way to go.
Dont turn the ball over rely on defense, and also have a strong run game
and know how to use it, and then good coaching before and during games.

Dallas doesnt have a great defense, I dont know if Dak is smart enough,
and if they pay him tag money or contract, either way it means less for
other players.
I would like to see him play with new coaches and see how he does,
but decision making and passing has at times been very bad.
Especially when he is getting hit and rushed hard. He is inconsistent
at times really good then really bad.
Right now is just a really bad time for making a decision on whether to pay him big money, and that is totally all on the jones boys.
They could have signed a new contract back in 2018 and got him fairly cheap but they just kept putting it off and now here we are.
