How is Crawford still on the roster?

So after final cuts are done...if Crawford again makes the roster...he will have survived 2 head coaches in Garrett and McCarthy, 4 defensive coordinators in Ryan, Kiffin, Marinelli, and Nolan, and 4 defensive line coaches in Baker, Lett, Bloom, and Tomsula. He will have remained on the roster longer than 39 players drafted by the Cowboys in the same draft or in following years.

In what way "not best for the team"? Free up dead money to spend it more effectively. Improve your defensive line.

If as you say you're worried about losing him, you've 'handed your cards over'.
Seems like you think I disagree. I dont.

The team knows who they are trying to sign, we don't. If they need the cap space, they will make a move, but if they dont, no real reason to create cap space that wont be used, and at the same time, you have a much better chance at not retaining Crawford either.

I am a million percent on board with cutting Crawford and his 9M or whatever and signing Clowney 20 per TODAY.

But if they are close with Clowney, and I doubt they are even in on him, they know they will need to cut or restructure Crawford in the same act.

Just no real rush of you dont intend to spend those dollars, and I dont know if they do.

Well, at least we can agree that it should be done and would be better spent elsewhere. I'll take that.

The obvious scenarios are 1) they are on the phone with a million outside free agents instead or 2) they want Crawford to take a pay cut down to the minimum and his agent is trying to gauge the outside market or 3) they want to see more medical reports on his hips before deciding whether to cut or restructure.

Its a complete tantrum to complain about it not happening in the first few days of FA.

Amid all of this team's moves, how is it that this guy is still sitting here counting $9.1 million against the cap?

Word is they reworked Zeke and Collins' contracts to free up money. Why has nothing been done on this obvious mistake?

I know it's me, and I know it's beating a dead horse for me, but it's also a valid question!

For all of the good moves they have made, why is nothing being done here?

Why has this team not make the painfully obvious move of doing something about this contract? Other teams have made measures to cut costs and dead weight, and out worst contract sits on the books? Why?
Griffen just announced he is a FA, cut Crawford and bring in Griffen.

For me, it's as much moving on as it is sheer accounting. They're already a year late in my book. This should have been done last year, when they had the cap advantage in doing so and saw an aging player coming off of injury, unavailable to practice. They didn't heed the signs then and paid $10 million for nothing. I see no reason to stay in this terrible deal.

If I'm that "idiot" and a "waste of time", why do you stalk every one of my posts?

You aren't an idiot or you would be on ignore already. You aren't a waste of time most of the time, except for rabbit holes like this.

Oh....I want Clowney....BADLY.

I wanted to give Coopers money to him.

So theres no way I want Crawford on this team eating up 9m when I can have a stud rusher for 18-19 short term.

Clowney aside...if Crawfords money is at ALL in the way of them signing really anyone at all to get better, then he needs to be gone.

Thing is...THEY know who they are pursuing and WE dont. If they are pretty much done, and I sadly think they may very well BE, then the best thing to do with Crawford is try to retain him at a lower number, not cut him now and sign no one w the savings.

Then again, you're talking to a guy who wanted Crawford cut and McCoy signed last year so I'm a bit ahead of the Cowboys curve. And lapping the cheerleaders!
I think you’ve wanted him out for several years and can’t blame you. On that side of the fence with you on this one.

Ironically last year they could of had Danny Shelton, Johnathan Hankins, and Clinton-Dix for a combined 9 million dollars. That's only 3 more million dollars than what they could saved that year by cutting Crawford straight up.

Even if they had just signed the 2 DT's and not Dix it would of freed up the 2nd rounder pick to take Safety Juan Thornhill who was a day 1 starter.

This is EXACTLY why you can't play games in free agency, it not only handicaps the team roster but it also messes up the draft......

Let me also say Crawford has been an overrated and overpaid (although he didnt pay himself) player for quite some time here now.

He is one of the Garrett entitled types. All being equal, I'd rather him gone, but I'm definitely not letting him hit the FA market NOW.

Make him wait until he has ZERO shot of getting any decent offer, and less of a choice of spots, then ask again if he wants to play for his current value.

Honestly, if the cowboys don’t add a FA DE and the draft doesn’t go their way for a DE. They need Crawford.

so I guess at this point a pay cut will have to do. I’m fine with dumping him if they sign a FA or draft a DE early though.

The Thornhill/Watt vs Hill/Charlton thing is going to sting for a very long time...but that's the real difference...hiring the right people.

Maybe not letting a washed up DL coach w 0-16 on his resume have so much influence in the draft room

Well, they definitely cant keep him at 9, and let Clowney sign elsewhere for 1/18-19.

Is Clowney twice as good as Crawford? Yes easily.

And every year that goes by proves that I was right all along.

And I admit to getting a certain measure of satisfaction by rubbing it in the homer, excusemakers' faces.

Just like with Garrett.
