The next best free agent move the Dallas Cowboys should make
https://thelandryhat.com/2020/03/29/dallas-cowboys-next-best-free-agent-move/

...At this point, there is just one move left to solidify a great offseason for this team. The Dallas Cowboys need to sign pass rusher Everson Griffen.

Griffen is an expert sack artist. He has posted 5.5 sacks or more in every season since 2012. In five of the last six seasons, he’s finished with eight or more sacks. He is also extremely durable as he has missed just eight games since 2014. As you would imagine, this has earned Griffen a Pro Bowl nod in four of his last five seasons.

The longer Griffen is on the market, the more likely his price tag will continue to drop. That should not be of concern to the Cowboys, however, as Spotrac shows Dallas still has over $22 million in cap space. Lastly, it is important to remember that Minnesota did not release Griffen. He actually opted out of a lucrative deal in order to move on from them...

Great offseason? Besides the coaching changes it hasnt been good.
The Cowboys came away with both Cooper and Dak...and sorry, as to off season, that is a strong foot moving forward. The team is actually about the 4th best in the NFL...at this point.

There is only so much money a team can spread around. Except for Frederick's retirement, the team made reasonable as well as smart moves.

All but six Cowboys free agents have been signed or with other teams. You really think that 26 free agents is easily retained...or that managing annual changes is done haphazardly?

I sure don't...!

Those 2 were important. Dallas might be a top 12 team. Might be contenders in another season or 2.

Dallas will earn their way into the playoffs, this season. But let's have a little fun in the mean time.

I think they'll win around 10 games. They'll get in for sure with jerry getting his new playoff structure. At this point I'm just hoping there is a season.

I agree. When I heard we were going to have that many free agents I wasn’t sure how we were going to retain guys and then improve are weaknesses. Imo, they have let the right people leave and have retained the right people.

Signing Griffen would mean the Cowboys addressed all the weak spots, outside of corner, going into the draft.

Which would be a huge get, but also would mean that the Cowboys will have a billboard sized giveaway of what position they'll target at 17 lol

P.J.Williams at free safety. But that's just because it might be time to start looking for X.Woods replacement. Just in case.

I'll just say this.......Griffen former DC is now on our staff. The fact he isn't signed already means one of three things; he thinks he worth more than we're offering, we have another potential option we like better or we simply have no interest at this time. Not to mention MM has seen him up close twice a year since the start of his career.

I will admit, it's odd/strange we haven't signed him or even heard of any potential interest.

The exact name I mention in another other thread. He wouldn't come cheap but that move solidifies the DL IMO. The Cowboys have shocked me with McCoy and Poe. Two bold moves I didn't see coming so I'm a little optimistic signing Griffen is a possibility.

I haven't heard anything about him from any team....does he want to play?

I agree. I would have liked to have kept Cobb and Quinn, but not at the dumb costs and contracts both signed.

Add Griffen and I think it's been a solid offseason. I'd have liked to have seen a better CB signed or even slot WR to take some pressure off the draft but if they add a Griffen (or Golden or Clowney), I'll take it.

I think you have it right with your first item, "he thinks he's worth more". More than anybody is offering, just like Clowney. Hopefully, when reality sinks in, the Cowboys might be in the mix then.

Besides Dak and Coop, we signed Poe.

I'd say we're off to a good start.

Yeah I would've wanted to keep both too. I honestly thought Quinn would be the one who would come back. He was 30......I thought we could get him back for a 2 year 20-25 million dollar deal. And due to it being a short term deal I thought we could retain him. I was way off based on that. Cobb I thought would get replaced because of the deep rookie class unless he signed a 1 year deal like last year for 6-8 million. Would've loved to bring those two back but not at that cost. Insane.

You may be right but its crazy to me. Seems like overpaying of veterans happening. Quinn and Cobb are both 30. Hell even McCoy is 32 and got a decent deal here. Seems like Griffin with his resume would've been a candidate to get overpaid as opposed to having to take a bargain deal.

Just noticed we signed McCoy to a 3-year deal and Poe a 2-year deal. Guess this could an issue with Griffen also.....we want him to sign a multi-year deal at bargain price vs he rather sign 1 year and hit the market again 2021.

No accounting for dumb organizations doing dumb things.
