He hasn't played football in five years so you're right. We'll see if he can still do it. But what we don't have to wait and see is that this is a no-risk contract. At the least he screws up in camp and never sees a game check. At the most he achieves all the incentives and costs the team four mil. Four mil for a productive pass rusher is peanuts and I'm probably missing something but I don't see a down side.

The only 'potential downside' is if they count on Smith, or they count on Randy Gregory. And they base draft and free agent decisions as if they're covered because they have either of these guys. That would be shortsighted and foolish. And a downside.

The money is not the problem really. It's the idea that we sign this guy and don't go after other options. If the guy doesn't work out and you don't pay him much, how does that really help the team? We are basically in the same situation rather then improving a problem area. That's the real problem.
THE DRAFT IS COMING..calm down!

you get your young players in the draft these moves keep us from NEED vs BPA we can take the absolute best player at 17 because of these moves, Gregory coming back, no need to draft greg Ellis ie Chaiisen at 17 as a project when you could take any position at 17 BPA etc etc

LOW RISK DEPTH bro..figure it out, hes fs up, hes cut with little cap hit..i guarantee that contract is nearly all non guaranteed..

Go back and read what he said. He said he hates the team, roots for their failure and hopes they go 3-13.

If that qualifies someone to be a “huge fan”, then our fan base is in the toilet

if you only knew how huge of a fan I was and all the stuff I have done. Yes the fanbase IS in the toilet.

do you think this no-guarantee signing is stopping them from going after/signing other players? what do you not understand about this deal? they aren't counting on him for anything at all. it's a free swing for the fences.

Where were you for the last 25 years Bro? When we needed somebody to blow smoke for Jerry and his moves.

Please, don't tell me to relax. You have no idea. I've seen it too many times. If you want to believe that this is a good sign, that's fine with me. You go ahead on but don't tell me it's all good. I know better.

Chaisson won't be there at 17

When you guys realize that, maybe it'll help you understand this move

I didn't take it as 'an attack', I just know that those weren't my words. Can you quote my entire original post for me so I can see it?

Ok, here you go, but wouldn't it just be easier for you to scroll back to page 1 of this topic and read it?

"Aldon Smith hasn’t played since 2015, but the Cowboys are rolling the dice the pass rusher still can play.

Smith has reached agreement with the Cowboys, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.

“Clean and sober now, incredible how much he’s turned his life around,” Glazer said on Wednesday night’s Fox Football Now.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has given second chances to plenty of players, including Alonzo Spellman, Dimitrius Underwood, Greg Hardy, Rolando McClain and Randy Gregory, with mixed results. Smith will become the latest. (Bold added)

He has served multiple suspensions under both the substance-abuse policy and the Personal Conduct Policy. Smith’s latest suspension arose from an alleged hit-and-run, DUI and vandalism incident in 2015.

A report from NFL Media last month indicated Smith was in the process of applying for reinstatement.

Like I said, if some or all of the above was copied from an article or such, it didn't show it.

Will at least be interesting to see what the Cowboys do at 17 later this month!!

actually since I am a season ticket holder the organization will miss me. As soon as I can sell this damn seat license that is. I don't care what other fans think.

What are you, here for 5 minutes and trying to explain to me how this all works? Physician, Heal Thyself.....

I'm not letting Jerry and the team off the hook. You can if you want but don't try and tell me you know what's up because you don't.

kind of a conundrum. was the ro mcclain deal a good one for us? for two years it was. then it all went to hell in a handbasket.

so why did you whine about not going after other players because of this signing? signing him has nothing to do with pursuing other players.

Thanks for that. Yeah, the link at the bottom was to indicate that it was taken from the ProFootballTalk article.

I just copied the information and gave credit to where I got it from.

And yes, it will be interesting to see what they now do with pick #17. My hope is that neither this move nor Gregory's potential return changes their strategy. If a pass rusher like Chaisson is available, I'd hope that they would still take him.
