The center position is a game changing position. When Dallas drafted Frederick and moved on from Costa, it had a massive impact. The whole offense improved. Center is the heartbeat of the OL and Dak, Zeke, Cooper, etc can not play at their best with a subpar center.
I totally understand that, especially since I was an All State Center in high school, BUT you don't need to use a 1st round pick to pick up a very good Center. Like Mickey Spagnola said, this team has too many holes to fill. Best to use our 1st round pick on a game changer type of player.

When we draft for pure need we end up with bad picks. Take Ruiz when you pick if he's the best player on the board overall, not the best C available.

This is how we ended up with Taco Charlton.
That is how we ended up with Greg Ellis instead of Randy Moss!

Cesar Ruiz can be had in the 2nd round.

If you want to draft him, trade down from 17 and use the pick you get to move up from 51.

Instead of trying to build a team let’s field a team of OL

I say we draft only OLs with all our draft picks

Why waste draft picks on DL, WR or CB

and this FO is stupid enough to do it

This is a smart plan if all your defensive picks disappear on you. Should keep it in the back pocket.

Looney is a short term backup. He is NOT a starter. How do you think we resigned him to peanuts when he was an UFA?

I disagree about Looney.

There is a ton of bad Olinemen that start in this league and he has put nothing on film the last 2 years that shows him to be average or worse.

He’s an above average player.

Much rather get my impact player at 17 (do the math, one or two will be there) and then, if I'm that in love with Ruiz, trade back up into late 1st (5th year option) and get him. Me personally, think he can be had in mid-to-early 2nd.

I like Ruiz a lot but if he's the best player we get out of this draft then we are stupid.
I guess King read my "Reality" post a week ago where I said the Cowboys need to draft Ruiz.

17. DALLAS. “It’s too high for a center,” said one personnel wag, “but they love the Michigan center (Cesar Ruiz), and they could trade down a few spots and still be sure of getting him.” Interesting: a plug-and-play heir to Travis Frederick.

Peter King is a moron when it comes to the Cowboys. The Cowboys already have several players that fill the role of the center. The first pick is too valuable to spend on a center. Their biggest need is defense... CB, S, DL. Expect this to be where the first pick is made. I think they go this route in the 2nd rd as well.

I’d be okay with it if some big names come off the board early and we get a good pick out of it. A late first and two seconds would be nice. Take Ruiz with the late first and then we can still draft a solid S, CB or WR with our two seconds.

to my knowledge his name hasn't come up yet as someone they've interviewed...at the shrine, senior bowl, combine or pre-draft visit.
doesn't mean they won't.
doesn't mean they haven't in secret.
but correct me if i'm wrong...to this date his name hasn't come up.

if you look at the positions of players they have talked to....i don't think c is one....some OTs and OGs...but i don't see any C's unless i missed it.

if this story is true...we'll start hearing his name from Cowboys sources...so far tho...this is the first.

I highly doubt they'll draft a center with pick #17. If they want him bad enough they'll have to trade up in the 2nd.

Our 2019 D is rated around No. 20.
Cardinals were ranked 32. Pats No. 1.

One of two additions won't do it for the cowboys, blokes.

But this year Ma Cca will spring clean out the average and bring in youth. No other choice.

I like Ruiz, but how many championships did The Beard strategy bring to Dallas?
