I thought Steven and McClay were holding the line on the contract, and at the 11th hour Jerry panicked, jumped in and paid Dez what he wanted? Anybody else recall any of this?

McClay is the head of scouts, he doesn't negotiate contracts. He gives the coaches, Stephen and Jerry his department's opinion on college players and players on other teams. I does not evaluate players already on the team, coaches do that. McCklay had zero to do with negotiating Bryant's last contract.

I’M SO SICK OF ALL THIS CRAP!! Stupid pride and ego! Let’s just function like he’s not going to be here. Draft a QB. Bring a vet FA in. Bite the bullet, even. JUST DON’T OVERPAY! No one is more important than the team!

That is exactly why you're not a GM. Bring in TWO players for ONE player spot. Some think Prescott holds all the cards but in reality he doesn't. He knows this and the Cowboys know this. Prescott is to smart not to realize that if he sits out that he will lose money that he will NEVER recoup. Between not making a salary while sitting out and under the terms of this new CBA, teams can no long forgive fines for missing mandatory functions, they have to be collected and the players know this. It's not like this is Prescott's 3rd contract and has made 15-20 mil a year. He's been on a rookie contract that last season paid him the most for a total 3.6 mil of which after taxes and his agent waiting until last season to get is 5% or 245K he probably had about 175K and where as I could live nicely on that for a couple years, he's also made it public that he has helped out some of his family. So it's not like he really can weather out losing money.

Maybe so, but what the Cowboys are offering would make him filthy rich for life. Holding out at the expense of the team for even more is selfish and stupid ego. No one is bigger than the team, and fans are sick of the drama.

I'll try this again for you. Both Prescott and the Cowboys know that Prescott will lose money that he will NEVER be able to RECOUP if he sits out. If the NFL has their mandatory mini camps and Prescott either signs his tag or a long term contract the day before the camps open or if he doesn't sign and does start the losing of money that he'll never recoup with that get you back to work any faster? Will it take food off your table? Will it cause you to get hemorrhoids? Just take a breath and go to the NFL site and take advantage of watching games for free and when whatever happens, happens, then get excited but even then that won't change a thing.

Not a Dak hater, just no longer care if he is or isn’t the QB of the Dallas Cowboys for the next 0, 1, or 10 years. The Dallas Cowboys with go on with or without him and I will be there for all of it. There are other human beings who can accept the snap from center and either hand it off or throw it to a teammate. It’s 100% out of my control and Dak’s apparent lack of even the smallest compromise or caring for the overall well being of the team is causing me not really care about him anymore...... I just hope there is structure to it like Zeke’s that gives the team an out in a few years because I don’t think he’s going to get much better after getting paid. It seems that’s his biggest focus and we all know what happens to those players after getting paid. I’m beginning to see trainwreck instead of success.

22 I can relate to your feelings about this situation, I think we're already dealing with a different Dak than we were before, and I think you're right about the center of his "focus".
Not only that, but once a player gets their hands on a huge guarantee, it tends to negatively affects one's incentive. Incentive is reward driven. Once you "guarantee" the reward, it reduces the level of incentive.

That's my feelings as well, "No one is more important than the team!" Sometimes they think they are, but they're not.

Seems to me that if McCarty told Jerry that he was completely in on Dak then there would have been a signed contract.

I love Dak and would like to keep him but he cant be paid like someone that just led his team to the Super Bowl because he didnt. With that said, meet him halfway and I think that a few years from now his contract will look reasonable.

We don't know who it is that's refusing to meet halfway, Dak or Jerry.

“According to ESPN NFL insider Chris Mortensen, Prescott's potential long-term deal saw "significant progress" recently.

Remember this thread from just 2 days ago?

https://cowboyszone.com/threads/chris-mortensen’s-dak-contract-update.456176/

Chris Mortensen >>>>>>>>> Shannon Sharp & Skip Bayless

Right, though Chris could be questioned at times, IMO, but he was also right quite a few times in the past. He reports real stuff, a good part of the time.
As where Skip and the big mouth rehearse the opposite sides for ratings.

I m hoping for no deal and a new quarterback
Let's start a new online club for this.

Remember as a kid forming secret clubs with the neighborhood gang?

Like that. We only had a few rules. One was definitely "no girls". They were to spooky and only wanted to play Mommy and Daddy.

We just wanted to play doctor and patient.

:lmao:

Funny how we all realized later our clubs were only good for playing physical games. Girls who played with us were called Tom Boys.

I always liked Tom Boys. Second wife was a Tom Boy.

But our new club needs to be open to all.

This would blow people's minds if they had to answer their posts to a group of 100 like minded posters?

Talk about making this all a funner experience.

Dak is one lucky Jag he has no competition and the Jones are desperate. They will pay him to regret it later and that's how the cowboys has been run for many years

OMG.

Logic and fact again merge into reality.

Mr. Jones, what monster have you created now.?

Maybe we should just open the roof of ATT and hoist a operating table to the top with Dak on it.

We can wait for the lightning to appear and just throw the switch and see what happens.

I think so too. What to look for is the July 15th deadline. If Dak plays the season under the tag I don't think we see him again in 2021.

He would have to have a miserable year or suffer a career threatening injury not to see him again in 2021.

It’s been more than a year with what seems Dallas compromising and raising the money each time and nothing being good enough for Dak and his agents. I’m at the point of looking for a trade partner and moving on. Not a good enough QB to jump through this many hoops imo.

Jerry will cave though and sign him to 40 mil a year and then we’ll turn around next summer and see QBs like Mahomes and Jackson sign for less.

As fan we have no saying The Jones can run it the way they want and they are here to stay ..It is a business and an entertainment venue for them The era of cowboys supremacy is over we are nothing but the Dallas Bengals with a good PR firm running the show. get used to it.

Is there ever been a player who improved their play after receiving a big contract?

I would guess 90% will either decline in performance or stay the same.

Goff, Wentz, just name me one. Mahomes improved and has his big contract day coming but he has a ring now.

He is not part of the answer.

Nothing will happen over the next few days. The draft can bring up unexpected surprises - player falling or trade opportunities. After the draft, teams that need a QB (if any) will move on those still available. There may also be some vet cuts or cheap trades from teams who drafted a QB.

No need for Cowboys to do anything until all this plays out because unforeseen options may emerge. Dak cant go anywhere in the meantime.
