What makes you think it will be a backup beyond year one? Looks like Dak plays with a tag and whoever gets groomed.

Then I'd take my chances with Cam, or Rosen, or even Fitz. Whatever bottom of the barrel Dallas can muster in FA.

There are far too many concerns, questions and frankly unreliable players on the defense alone to shift the talent acquisition elsewhere.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is I'd rather build a solid team around a game manager.

Out of Hurts, Eason and Fromm, I think Hurts is the only one that could be competitive in an NFL game in 2020.

I like the idea of having that guy as a backup, I do NOT like the idea of spending pick 51 on him

They need to deal back from 17 to consider this. If not, and they dont get him later, then you dont need him.

I dont know how many teams are lining up to forego a potential starting player to have Hurts as a backup at this point.
We don't know what has been put out for public consumption on the Dak contract negotiations versus how they actually feel. What we do know is no contract has been agreed to.

So Bleacher report is saying via Ed Werder the Cowboys are considering drafting a QB in round 2 or 3. Let's set aside our skepticism for a minute and indulge this theory. At that point it seems it could only be Jalen Hurts in my mind. I dont think Love slips that far. Any other ideas?

I believe this completely. Why else would Jerry say we are going to draft a qb, and preface that pick with 'it means nothing to Daks status as starter'.

We move forward..

Eventually we’ll get it back in a Dak trade.

Next year is a bit of a small rebuild anyways.

Drafting Tua, and dropping Dak’s contract is the way forward.

Sticking with Dak is going to lock us into being a fringe playoff team.

You still torturing yourself with this?

If they were going to make a change, they already would have done something. When the veteran quarterbacks were actually available to steer the ship.

They made their decision and cast their lot with Prescott.

I think they would trade Dak if they cant get a long term deal done. Or if they were at such an impass they couldnt see it getting done. I dont see them having Dak and his replacement in the same locker room

Why not, if they feel they are gonna have to over pay Dak, draft his replacement now, develop him a year and let Dak do his thing this year. If he balls out and goes deep in the playoffs than maybe we will think again about paying big bucks to him. If he doesn't his replacement is on team the following year, we franchise him again and trade him. It will open us up for enough salary cap to do what we want and you have to believe we get a 1st and 3rd at least for him. I hope we settle it and move on but it doesnt look that way.

Because you would create a huge rift in the locker room and organization.

Dolphins have Rosen. Young 1st round QB isnt an absolute need for them.

Eh, Rosen was benched early and was done. Their season was over before it began but they wanted to stick with a journeyman to win games.

I wouldn't put too much stock into Rosen right now.

They would be silly to pass on QB talent this year due to Rosen.

James Morgan in day 3 would be fine with me for Dallas

Ehhh at this point, I’m 100% certain it’s Terrell, Chaisson or trade down.

Henderson likely goes to Atlanta in a trade up. I feel like both are a bit of a reach at 17. But hey, it is what it is.

Goodell really is screwing us with the Smith and Gregory decision. Yes, a RDE would be nice. But do we spend big on a RDE and then have Gregory AND Smith as backups along with Crawford?

None of those guys are under contract beyond 2020.
