The one thing puzzling about arguments of in-game 'quarterback accuracy' is either the:
- lack of accountability attributed to receivers in catching passes (con side) and
- dismissal of the receiver's part in catching passes (pro side)
Takes two to complete any pass. Even so, one side's argument is that Prescott throws too many uncatchable passes.
Not entirely true.
The other side essentially argues Prescott throws many well-thrown passes they
should have and
were caught without difficulty as 'validated' by his completion percentage.
Also not entirely true.
Any remotely 'fair' evaluation and discussion of any quarterback's accuracy must include a proper sampling review of actual passes thrown. Only then can anyone honestly judge whether the quarterback throws enough catchable balls (like any other capable quarterback) and the receiver had the opportunity to do his job.
It
is the receiver's job, ESPECIALLY
N-F-L level receivers, to haul in
catchable passes. That is what they are
paid to do, some handsomely. No quarterback should be negatively graded for passes that should have been caught but were dropped or defended well (because the opponent's defense are also paid to do
their jobs). The same is true for quarterback passes that are either extremely difficult or impossible to catch (e.g
not catchable) but are ignored in a positive assessment.
There should be some compromise for bringing radically opposing views towards the middle by acknowledging what receivers do or do not do in completing passes. The compromise is practically nonexistent though. Even during those rare moments a compromise happens, there is disagreement in how different people critique
catchable passes. Thus, receivers receive another argumentative pass. Pun intended.
I do not know. These conversations happen on internet forums, at games, at sports bars and in living rooms. It is just weird how 'everything' is almost always lumped onto the quarterback's shoulders, regards if the arguments are beating the quarterback like a dead horse or setting him atop a pristine pedestal of gold.
Whatever.
