Yeah I’d never, ever consider Stephen a great negotiator. Dallas has been held hostage each of the last three years lol

Yep...…….they got schooled on Lawrence, Zeke, Cooper, and now probably Dak. Zeke was by far the worst.

This tag thing they think gives them leverage never works.

Yep....great point. Zeke contract whilst the highest has been structured to give Cowboys leverage in 3 seasons. Zeke had to capitulate due to off-season problems and change in offense with Kellen.

Stephen Jones is being the GREAT negotiator that he's proven to be.

No, that isn't a great point.

Literally every big contract we write has that structure.

We aren't smart. Nearly every team in the league does it that way.

LOL...…..nobody needs analytics for that.

What are the analytics for making your RB the highest paid back in the NFL?

It's all in the structure of the deal.

First, because it's a six-year deal, it averages $15 million per year.

Second, because it's a six-year deal, Elliott doesn't actually get paid $15 million in a year until his fourth year, when he would make $16.5 million if not restructured. The next year, Dallas can cut him and save $8 million in cap dollars, having paid him $6.3 million the first year, $10.9 the second, $13.7 the third and $16.5 the fourth. That would mean there's essentially $40 million of that $90 million that was funny money.

The problem/holdup with Dak's deal seems to be that he wants a lot of money on a shorter-term deal. When you have that, the money is more "honest" because you can't push dollars he'll never receive to the back end. What Dak needs to do is agree to a long-term deal that has impossible cap hits after four years and know that he's really signed a four-year deal because the Cowboys will either have to renegotiate it at that point or cut him. If he wants shorter than four years, that's a bit tougher to pull off because the Cowboys would have to get all his guarantees in over a shorter term, meaning they would have to pay him more now. Unless teams have reserved a huge chunk of cash to pay a major portion up front, that's not something that is palatable.

3 seasons of paying a RB 15 million 2 years before his contract was up? I would say that's about the worst negotiation I have ever seen.

I'd say you don't follow the NFL very closely.

Shocking Every Professional Football Team have a contract template that is "smart".

Ever heard of best practices... it's usually considered smart amongst like mind business

There's no question but what this current standoff is a sad situation.

Not good for the parties involved, the team nor the fans.

That's a sad situation, all the way around. :(

Will this season provide a solution?

We'll see about that . . .

What standoff? Just another big contract going down to the wire. Its happened every year for the last 3 years here.

You make great solid points but they are team biased (team friendly contract).

From the players vantage point. I want as much guaranteed in as much short time as possible and an opportunity to get more if I can still play.

It is not Dak's JOB to Draft well or manage the cap.

It's a free market. Dak can play on the tag and we all take a chance!

Andy Dalton vs. Rams Dline.... immobile rifle!

Only Dak Haters and Rams fans want Dalton game 1

So what is Daltons record against winning teams or top defenses? LOL

I would love to see the Trolls post that one.

As of right now, it's a standoff.

What happens in the months ahead has yet to be settled.

No guarantees are forthcoming. It's entirely possible that Dak could play under the tag.

Right now its a negotiation. Once it gets down to the wire, my prediction is they will come together.

Glad to hear you're comfortable with it but that doesn't mean everyone is or should be. We'll see what happens.
