The focus on Adams has been too much on TO's. Thats not his game. Im not advocating for him but Adams is a two All Pro and a catalytic player. The expectation that Woods could be our Adams is wild. Im not even sure Woods is a starting caliber Safety. His instincts look off last year. Im pretty sure there was a play where the ball right in front of him and he didn't even notice itWoods and Adams have been in the NFL for 3 years. Adams is supposedly what makes the Jets defense go. Woods is not the same for the Cowboys.
Yet Adams 3 career INT's....Woods....5 INT's (on our lame butt defense)
For the price, give me Woods.
...that will stir up the Adams slobberers for a Tuesday morning.
and his name is Xavier Woods. He is another player I think was misused by the previous coaching staff. Xavier Woods doesn't seem like a ball hawk to me. He has been better laying hits. I think pairing him with a true free safety and playing him close to the line of scrimmage more often would give him the best opportunity to produce. I really wanted the team to bring in Earl Thomas which would have put Woods at SS, or for them to draft a free safety instead of Trysten Hill. Clinton-Dix would fill that role well enough this year but they should try to get a ball hawk for next season.
The way I see it, if they were that high on Woods, they would have went after a SS and not Clinton-Dix. Basically they upgraded FS and are hoping Woods can be adequate at SSSorry but I just can’t agree with this. Jamal Adams is an elite player. I like Xavier Woods, but he’s a good role player, not an All Pro. Woods is not even a lock for a second contract here yet. He’s still improving and I’m certainly glad he’s here. But he’s a sixth round draft pick who who has played well for a typical sixth round pick. But calling X Woods “our Jamal Adams” is a big stretch.

Again Im not advocating Adams.Several things here.
Old scheme vs. new schemes can be a huge difference.
The other, fans whine and whine over lack of turnovers, but yet it is ok for Adams to have less than woods in 13 more games started? I know you said too much focus on turnovers, but come on, that is what everyone brings up. Especially as to not paying Byron Jones. So they can't have it both ways.
I am not saying Woods is Adams, but I am willing to give him this season, to save the money and the draft picks. Adams is just not worth the price.
But I know how the fans are on here. They show why they are not GM's.

Im still hesitant the put Wilson in that convo yet. He had a great Preseason, but he did all from a center field type position. I still dont know how he translates to SS in the NFL yet. We will probably find out more in camp. Linquist does know him well and he was a SS at TAM. Icould even see Wilson being the 2021 starting FS considering Dix in on a 1 year dealThat's the truth of it. Woods just got bumped out of his position and now someone wants to try to compare him with Jamal Adams at strong safety before he even plays a game there?
Beyond laughable. Absolutely ludicrous.
The fact is that Woods isn't even any sort of guarantee to be starting that first game of the season. Donovan Wilson may be that guy by that point.
I do like Woods as a player. He might be more of a "DB" than a Safety. He was basically a CB as a rookie and played Dime slot well. He could more like Jordan Babineaux, who had a solid career in Seattle playing CB and S as a sub package DBThat's the truth of it. Yes, because intercepting passes are the ONLY thing a safety can do for a defense.Woods and Adams have been in the NFL for 3 years. Adams is supposedly what makes the Jets defense go. Woods is not the same for the Cowboys.

Woods hasnt played SS, but he has shown the ability to play man coverage which is key for a cover age SSWilson has played strong safety, has Woods?
Wilson has experience with Linguist the new coach, Woods does not.
Wilson showed tremendous playmaking and turnover potential when he got the opportunity. Woods is getting bumped from his starting position.
Wilson is under contract for three more years while Woods is in a contract year.
I see a lot of advantages for Wilson.

Maybe Wilson can challenge him. But its way to early and we know way to little about Wilson as an NFL Safety for me to make that jump and consider him a contender for the starting SS job. Im not saying it cant or won't. There just isnt enough information right now to consider that. Thats a wait and see thing for me
If anyone is going to be our "Jamal Adams" then its probably going to have to be LVEOh I think it's all a wait and see thing at this point. But it again points out how ridiculous it is for someone to be comparing Woods and Adams.

Sometimes when I watched him last year, I wondered if he was overthinking. It was odd watching him at times, because he almost seemed to make a real effort to get to where the ball was, but once he was there he had no idea where it was.Woods should probably a nickel/dime back. He’s limited as strong safety.
Like the player but I think he’s been playing out of his depth as a full time starter. That doesn’t mean he’s garbage or shouldn’t have a role in the secondary.
