It takes a team to reach the playoffs. Dak did more than enough. Others did not. Dak has proven he keeps getting better every year. Easily a Top 5 QB. Would you rather have an average or below average QB?

Neither, that's why we don't want Dak.

Only 8 more days to see what happens. Of course depending on what does happen i.e. sign a new contract or play on the tag, I am sure there will be another 10 million threads of why it is good or bad. Simple fact, Mahomes signed a mega deal, fact Watson and Jackson are going to sign mega deals, fact drafting a QB early next year means either trading up or losing badly (neither of which I personally care about), fact most QBs drafted early are only 50-50 shot at being just GOOD, and now we wait to see what Jerry/Stephen do.

We can speculate until the Cows come home but none of us really have any idea what is on the table currently or if signing Mahomes changes things. McCarthy came to Dallas because of what he evaluated on film about every position. If we are to believe what he says, then his statements on Dak is that he believes Dak can carry the Cowboys to a Super Bowl and win it. It does not matter what our eyes tell us good or bad, it does matter what McCarthy's eyes say.

I do not know if the FO will sign Dak to a long term deal or not by July 15th but have a feeling that is what McCarthy wants and right now it seems like if McCarthy wants something then Jerry/Stephen are doing their best to get it for him. But hey in 8 days we will know more, won't we.

Just like for the other QBs, right, or do we count only for Dak?
I was saying as you factor in the drops by the Wide Receivers you should not fail in factoring the drops for the defensive Backs.

I know how important stats and analytics are to you

Dak is not thinking short term, Mahomes just blew the doors off on QB salary. I don't expect Dak to get the same money as Mahomes but I do think he will get his deal and the ability to hit FA after the 4 years are up.

Dak will easily get $38 - $40 per year now at a minimum thanks to Mahomes' new 10 year/$503 million with $477 million in guarantees/$45 mil/year average new contract extension.

You "don't pay Dak" Daktractors are foolish for having pushed the tag and much lesser pay which Jerry obviously listened to. Who is laughing now? Not you. It's Dak because he now knows he is worth at a minimum around $40 mil/season which Jerry will have no choice but to pay Dak since the alternative will lead to years of average play + rebuilding for years to come + playing musical chairs at the QB position.
337 million in roster bonuses - each year - not guaranteed at all

How is that 477 million in guarantees?

Basing CAP on OVER THE CAP increases .....so dont hide behind ignorance of the figure - there's a very good guestimate of what it will be.

We cant afford.
You had me at guestimate.....

You're comparing Mahomes and Dak .....cant do it, if you do it'll just make you bitter
Wow....now you are ascribing to me, a "comparison" I didn't make.

so dont hide behind ignorance of faulty logic - there's a very good guestimate of where it will lead.

Dak and his team are really not in a good spot after that deal, 1st of all its a 10 year extension, secondly not including 2020 Mahomes only has cap hits of 22.8 (2021), 28.4 (2022), 40.4 (2023) and 37.9 (2024)...that only averages 32.9 for those 4 years...and 2020 for those wondering (which is the 4th year of his rookie deal) his cap hit with the new signing bonus he just got is still only 10.8m this season. If Dak wants big $$$ he is going to have to play on the cap this year and really have a good year, because he has already turned down what Mahomes is getting from 2021 thru 2024 and he really isn't going to be offerred more than that, not anymore

No he did not - he did nothing of the sort. That is one of the most team friendly deals I have ever seen if Overthecap is correct.

He does not even have the guaranteed amount of Goff or Wentz I don't think.

Yes but last year would have been the 2 million a year with the signing bonus & this year would have been a large base salary figure.

If he signs this year he would have a large signing bonus and low base salary with a larger base salary for next year.

So unless he gets everything he wants, he did lose money.

Holding out for 4 uears over 5 years is idiotic because everyone knows Jerry would take care of him and give him a new contract after the 4th year if he wanted it.

But unlke Malholmes and the Chiefs, Dak just doesn't have the same love for Dallas & the Cowboys that Patrick has for his team
Well we can't call anyone idiotic or question their love without seeing the contract. Let's remember we still don't know what was offered just speculation. If Dak was offered 475 million I think he too would've "showed his love" for the Cowboys lol.

You are right @PAPPYDOG! See that was easy. No one knows any of the numbers offered to Dak, but isn't it fair to say that Dak, IF he is signed to an extension gave himself a higher avg/yr salary and more guarantees over contract lifetime due to Mahomes re-stablishing/ setting the market?
You never know. Jerry might be laughing at the Chiefs for paying that much. He might be saying, "Those guys are idiots! I'm not paying that much to one player."

I don't expect Dak to get the deal as Mahomes did but don't kid yourself Mahomes is getting the $141,481,905 right off the bat, how KC plays it off the cap is more their business than his. Players are always looking for guaranteed money. Your right 2020 contract is still part of his rookie deal so what

I have said the same thing - no proof that 40 mil a year has ever been offered or demanded. I was replying to America's Cowboy who said that 38-40 mil a year is now the minimum after Mahomes 10 year contract.
.
.
Thanks for the explanation. On that point, I personally don't think $38-40 is now the new minimum to do a deal with Dak, but obvious we don't yet know how the market in general and Dak in particular will react to Mahomes deal.

How are we gonna get Haskins when the Commanders have him?

Are the Commanders interested in trading him? If so I say no we alteady got our Haskins in the form of Prescott. Even though having Haskins would be better because of the cap hit
He was comparing how Commanders did with Cousins and ended up trading for Alex Smith and then eventually having to draft Haskins......

The details matter in the Mahomes deal. Because of the length and structure, you can't sit there and say Mahomes got $45MM a year, so Dak has to get X. There are a lot of moving parts in the Mahomes deal.
