Letting Dak go will be the best thing Cowboys can do

Yup.

Meanwhile, Dakota will probably be making the veteran's minimum in Cleveland, Jacksonville, or Vegas. I've said the entire time his agent is giving him the worst advice ever. France acts like he's representing the second coming of Joe Montana.

Now Montana walks on water. Get real. Dak can make any throw Montana made.

1st fallacy. He’s not asking to be paid like Rodgers,Brees,Brady or any other considered elite QB. He’s asking to be paid the market value of any QB that would have accomplished the same as he has so far. Kirk Cousins landed a historic contract. And what the hell had he done to “earn” it? If Dak played for the Giants the last 4 years with the same productivity. He’d be asking for the same. And the Giants would be paying him. If Jones has the same productivity over the next few years. He will be asking for even more than Dak is now, because that will be his market value. Like it or not. QB’s get paid the largest contract. And that will continue from now on.

2nd fallacy. Dak is only a product of his o line or other talent around him. Roger Staubach was a God to me. And I would never consider comparing him to Dak. But he also had guys like Dorsett, Pearson and many others now in the HOF. In Super Bowl VI he had a whopping 119 yards passing and 2 td’s. While Garrison and Thomas had 169 yards rushing between the two of them. The team had over 200 yards rushing that day. Many of Dak’s critics today would be telling you that Cowboys team could win with any QB and Roger isn’t worth paying. Again. I’m not saying Dak is remotely as talented as Roger. But the fact remains. It takes a number of good to great players and coaching on any team to win consistently. Would we even know who Tom Brady is had he had the misfortune of being drafted by the Browns or any other consistently badly run team? Dak can be paid what he’s asking and still leave the team with plenty of space to provide the necessary talent. Even if he’ll never be considered “Elite”.

And anybody who makes a claim that Dak will never win any “big games” or can’t lead them to a Super Bowl is talking out of their ***. If Eli Manning,Ben Rothlisberger, Nick Foles, Jim McMahon, Mark Rypien, Joe Flacco, Brad Johnson,Jeff Hostetler, and Trent Dilfer can win. Dak Prescott sure as hell can!

Awesome post man.

I don't know if it is "best" but it is probably the "right" thing to do ultimately for the sake of the salary cap and team overall. Dak and his agent are doing the Kirk Cousin's thing. Follow the $$$. It is what it is... Better for Dak possibly but not in the long term interest of the team. Love Dak but he is not Patrick Mahomes and if he just wants top $$ (or what seems to me more), it probably will have to be somewhere else. Just hope he gives us a couple great years under the franchise tag.

I am OK with him leaving in a couple years. Just hope the front office sees that he will need replaced with someone >>> than an Alex Smith type guy.

Dak doesn't need to be Mahomes to win games. Just a defense that won't fold and a RB that easily won't get shut down vs a good defense.

Odd take since the games where Zeke doesn't get over 100 yards and dictate the game Dallas loses.

The All Pro RB and Offensive line are the focal point of the damn team. Each week the other team comes in knowing they have to stop the all pro rb and the offensive line or they will get run over. Every week. For the FOUR years he has been the starter the goal of the other team was to stop the all pro rb. That is a huge advantage for our offense in the passing game. If you think the all pro rb and o-line are over rated go watch the 2017 stretch without the all pro rb and get back to me on how your under rated qb played, particularly the eagles and chargers games.

its unbelievable reading stuff here. The offensive line has been over rated but the qb under rated! LOL the 2016 offensive line was as good as a line can be.

The focus of the offense is the passing game, and not the running game. The running game is immaterial in football these days. We were 3-3 without Zeke when he got himself suspended. What hurt the team that season wasn’t the missing RB. It was not having a replacement LT on the roster. Because, while our pass protection is overrated, we still needed a LT who could actually play.

And I didn’t say the line in 2016 was overrated. This isn’t 2016.

Dak very much is a product of the offense that Jerry built. I believe this team is built so QB friendly that an average QB can come in and look pretty good. Dak is an athlete playing QB, he doesnt have that natural ability to throw the football with accuracy and velocity. He isnt bad but he will never fire the football into that tight window on a quick slant into the endzone between defenders. He doesnt possess that ability and thats where the layers are peeled back on his talent. Good QBs place the ball on different areas of the WRs catch zone to help him but Dak just throws at the big target. Daks ability to consistently hit a short moving target like Zeke out of the backfield is not great either. Thats why Zeke usually runs out of the backfield and stops and turns to give Dak a stationary target to throw to. Dak is not worth the money he is asking for!

He turned down 35 a year because he thought that it was too low. What's the next offer? 38? Certainly not 40-45. Russell Wilson is getting 35 and Mahomes is getting 45. Both QB's is well established over Dak with a lot less toys to play with. Russell has a ring, almost had 2, and Mahomes is the future.

I was watching "Undisputed" today and I agree with what Mike Vick said. You cant take ALL the money from the pot. There will be other free agents coming up soon that will need to be paid. We are talented in many positions on the field and we need to keep them together; or even upgrade through the draft.

If we have Dak robbing us blind and we have nothing left, Jerry can kiss he Superbowl hopes goodbye.

After all, he is an above average QB that wants 40 a year. We learned before that this does not work in the NFL. My guess, he takes that tag this year, let Dak go next year, and let Andy Dalton have the reigns.

If Dak is making the veterans minimum, the Cowboys are not getting a comp pick.

Uhh for the most part the names you listed won SB's with unbelievable/ALL-WORLD defenses. You wanna show me how Dallas is even remotely attempting to build a defense that is going to be for the record books?? Dak can definitely win games but he is not the type to take a team on his back and win it all when down 21-0.
I think in todays game that building a defense like one of those SB teams is just about impossible with the rules protecting the offensive players.

Good points all around but I believe Dalton is just a stop gap until we can find our next REAL franchise quarterback. MM has high standards and deservedly so. MM may be looking at the 2-3 year plan. Shoring up the Defense and getting a Qb that can do more than just pad garbage stats against Commanders,Dolphins and Giants

Agree, with the exception of Dakota being a good athlete. Hes been running like hes in wet cement and even Buffalo's Josh Allen outperformed him last season in making athletic plays. I will say that Rayne may be the best at doing those little running hip swiveling drills. Hes a natural at swinging those hips.
