What should the Cowboys do about the QB position going forward?

With the players the Cowboys have now I feel like starting over with a rookie is almost like rebuilding all over again. Maybe we can get lucky again but that’s hard to do. I don’t want to go back to the dark ages after Aikman retired.‍♂️

I lean towards trying to trade Dak and offer Dalton three-year, 50- to 60 million dollar deal

No way in hell I'm trusting this team with a rookie over the next 2-3 years.......our window is NOW. If they can't get Dak signed before 2021 draft. I'm keeping an eye on Cam Newton. He only signed a one-year deal with the Pats. IF he healthy, he's easily a top 10-15 QB.

But something tells me Dak is going to play his axx off leading this team to at least NFCCG.

Don't think for a second this thing hasn't compromised some trust between Dak and FO.

What's the reason? They don't overpay for just anyone LOL?

Once you decide you won't sign him, you have to look to trade him. You simply can't let a franchise type QB leave and get nothing in return. Let this season play out and see how he does. Use the non exclusive tag next year if you can and see what kind of offers come in. If he proves himself with a deep playoff run, then reward him. I'm fine if is costs a little more. I'll gladly pay more for something I know is worth it. Right now, Dak is unproven and not worth what he is asking for. If he wants that type of commitment from the team then go out a lead them somewhere besides 8-8 and sitting at home watching the playoffs. If it comes down to moving on from him, you have to try and trade him, extend Dalton as cheaply as you can, and then look to the draft or a trade for a young QB stuck behind a veteran.

Now that Dak wont be signing a long-term extension here :)rolleyes:), what should be the contingency plan be in regards to the QB position going forward?

Draft?

Free Agency?

Trade?
well, this year he makes 31.5 and next year 37.7 and it will average to the about 35 per year, so in essence its a 2 year contract....so they can then renegotiate or see if there are other options....Dak is a top 10 QB in the league so someone will pay....and mahomes kind of pushed the market up and with Watson, its going to go higher...….

There's a reason I was never a Dak Prescott fan before Dallas drafted him and after today who knows how much longer I will be cheering for him!

He's getting $31 million to workout at home. Smart.

I don't see him playing on the tag a second year in a row. He either gets signed next year or is out. There's a good chance the cap won't even go up next year, so letting Dak take up almost 20% of the cap would be idiotic.

Only 4 quarterbacks next year will be a cap hit either higher or similar to Dak on a second tag. Big Ben, Ryan, Rodgers, and Brees. So yeah, Dak's not playing on a 2nd tag.
