umm my point was everyione keeps pointing out he was playing pretty well in camp and are surprised, im saying for the last time, he obviously wasn't playing well enough as OK is not good enough to keep a spot on the 53 this season..
O.K so He was cut because He wasn't good enough, still not sure why that's a message to a 2019 squad He wasn't part of, if anything keeping Him over Guys like Thomas and Lee who were part of that squad would have been more of a message.

Every team's base defense right now is basically a nickel; meaning only two linebackers on the field. The Cowboys can get by with just Thomas, March, and Gifford (who must not be seriously hurt) as backups until Lee is available.

I also think we were probably a little too quick with our praise for Bernard. He had some good practices that the media reported and we kind of jumped all over that. He might not have been as great as we all thought.

It is? I don’t recall people calling him that. It certainly doesn’t seem to be commonly used. I assume you mean nickname?
It was a name given to him by Dez Bryant. This name given to him is how I identify him as well.

I’ll pass.
If he wasn't a backstabbing scumbag he wouldn't have this name. He's the guy in the office everyone hates and who you have to watch what you do around him because he goes and tattle tales hoping to get a raise.

McCarthy makes everybody earn a spot, nobody is giving anything especially just because you are liked

meh if that’s the case why not Justin March who I haven’t heard anything about? Or Gifford who’s been hurt? Seems like Bernard has been the one making plays

A few things to keep in mind, while some of your heads are exploding:

1. Don't worry about LB depth. This is not Rod's 4-3. We will see very, very times, if at all, when we run out 3 conventional LBs. When we are in 4-3 in the new scheme, the 3rd LB will be SLB/DPR - think Smith, or Anae, Gregory when he comes back. In the 5-2 looks, you will likely have DLaw in a 2-pt stance with Smith or Anae on the other side, and then when we run nickel, we will have four DL and two LBs. So, it will be LVE, Smith, and Thomas - a very capable vet backup for both spots.

2. Fans and some sportswriters become enamored with "splash plays," but coaches watch the film on every practice rep, over, and over, and over. A LB that makes the occasional big splash play, but gets beat up between the tackles for the other 99% of the snaps, is no good to a team. I am not saying that I know he was poor, but we really don't know that he was outstanding, based on what a few beat writers wrote, especially this year, when only a few people could watch practices. Based on the fact that they waived him, he probably had some big holes in his game.

3. This was likely Fassel's call. I was wondering if he was in trouble when he mentioned that he was running with the 2s on special teams. As a backup LB, if you can't start on special teams, your life is short in the NFL.

I thought His Teammates voted Him a Captain multiple times, He can't have been that widely hated if that was the case.

Sounds like a big excuse for Dez to me. I’ll bet dollars to donuts that outside of Dez his teammates don’t view him that way. Without question a lot more players have praised Lee for his leadership than have disparaged him. I’m not actually aware of any teammate, past or present, disparaging him other than Dez.

This is all true. We will only have two conventional LB spots in our new defense. Thomas is the main backup until Lee comes back and then after, that, it is Fassel's call.

If Gifford can’t stay healthy then idk how he’ll help on ST. But maybe March is that much better at ST than Bernard. Hmm

This is absolutely the case. After your two starters (LVE and Smith), and your #1 backup- Thomas, it becomes Fassel's call.
