Ezekiel Elliott made a key block on Gallup's long catch

There was no recognition the pass protection call was made for him to help out the left side. Notice they keep schultz in to block on the opposite side to help block the LDE

He was setup to help with the interior on the left, not the outside.

The goal on a long pass play is to protect the interior and run the outside guys wide which Knight was doing, but not well enough on that play.

As a result, Elliott recognized that the outside rusher was a higher threat level and shifted out to block him.

I probably am leaning towards coaches helping out the backup tackle than the lg. It was a great pickup by zeke but great pass pro call that designed him to be on that left side

We as fans tend to focus on the ball when it comes to great plays of a game, but there are so many lesser known plays that are just as important, if not more so, when great plays happen.

For example, the long catch that Gallup made toward the end of the game to setup a touchdown was made possible by a block from Ezekiel Elliott helping out Brandon Knight.



As usual, I have no agenda when it comes to players, but I do think it is important for us as fans to recognize that all players, including star players and even suspect players, can and do play more roles on the team than we realize or sometimes recognize.

Elliott may have a great or bad day running, but a key block here and there can be just as important, if not more so in some cases.

Very good post - both the video and comments. These are the kinds of things fans sometimes don’t realize are important because the TV cameras and announcers don’t focus on them.

Just being "on the left".....doesn't mean that block was his assignment. I agree with reality...looked like he was assigned the interior...detected the threat and responded.

Zeke's "chip" blocks were awesome. There were some that were more dramatic than that one where it appeared he caused real physical pain for the pass rusher.

I've been calling them wham chip blocks; although, wham block has previously been used to describe a different type of block.

I think there is a compilation video of them somewhere.

Whenever I think about Dallas..

Zeke is my first thought. Dak comes 2nd for me.

Zeke is the heartbeat of the entire team.

He runs, catches, blocks, he jumps into Salvation Army kettles, donates matching funds to Salvatiln Army for their cause..

the things he does goes on and on.

Does he let things get a little edgy? Yes he does. Does he have trouble with the opposite sex at times?

Who here hasn't?

Becuz he is rich and famous he gets targeted for more than his share.

So you just pray he stays healthy and stays on the field.

Then we have a shot at bigger things as fans.

He put a LB and a DE on their back last week blocking. Many backs in this league don't have a single block like that all year

He also allowed his man to hit Prescott on the first drive on 3rd down almost causing an interception.

Why do people feel then need to say he is the best blocker “by far” with no objective data to go by? I am not trying to knock his blocking but do you guys watch other RBs block or are you just so in love with Zeke that you’re hell bent on giving him the title of being the best by simply pulling it out of your butt?

He's not crapping on Zeke. He's just asking how the poster knows he's the "best" blocking RB in the league, since there are no metrics by which to measure that.
