i dont blame Mccarthy for the bad defense but i do blame him for hiring Nolan.

It was a concern of mine as well. Based on researching McCarthy, while he did regularly have top offenses, his defense were usually poor during his tenure. When he finally brought in a guy like Capers was when it improved and they ultimately won it all.

That said, we’re also three games into a season with no offseason and I’m not foolish enough to Make sweeping conclusions at this point.

Something else to consider is that the teams we’ve faced Have the 3rd, 4th, and 8th offenses in the league. A significant factor as well.

Your last point hits the nail on the head.

@ Rams. New stadium. Woods, Kupp are 1000 yard guys. Higbee is solid at TE. Outstanding defense and is a playoff team.

Falcons. Elite offense but a bad defense.

@ Seahawks. Wilson is playing like the MVP. Metcalf and Lockett are outstanding and playing out of their minds.

At best, we should've came out of that 2-1. We have some winnable games upcoming. We should round out more evenly on defense with the Browns, Giants and hopefully the Cardinals.

It's not like we were smoked by the Jets, Washington or some other bad offenses.

That’s what gives me confidence. Not only that the defense should improve as they get more comfortable with the scheme and one another, but that they will be facing lesser quarterbacks and offenses overall.

as good as MM may be, this game still takes good,SMART players. The latter is our issue it seems. I think we have just enough talent , but are very woeful in the smarts/instincts dept. Football instincts at the pro level matters alot. In fact, its the difference between being a bad team or being a playoff team.

when we finally get that signature win, we won't be a dumb team. Parcels said that when he was here. This game is about situational play and executing. The big issue is we are still playing with Garrett players on defense. Until MM gets all the guys HE WANTS on the back end and the linebacking group, we will sputter. He will never say it, but we are rebuilding that side of the ball. Its patchwork right now.The major monkey wrench is the oline. No one expected that. So MM is behind the 8 ball from game 1.

This Cleveland game TO ME , we should be the underdogs. They are just a better team right now. We have lots of work to get things fixed.

4 out of the 5 teams with new Head Coaches have losing records. Keep in mind, it's very early to be hitting the panic button. Thread after thread about how the sky is falling.
It's very reasonable to suggest we have more obstacles than most teams.
To me, it all hinges on the defense. It's what has failed us so far.

Browns beat Washington and Cincinnati, who are a combined 1-4-1. The only winning team they played they were blown out by 31 pts. Cowboys' losses were a combined 10 pts.

Too early to tell who's better, but based on the first 3 games there's no way the Browns are a better team....

record-wise, THEY ARE. Isn't that what matters here? Still gotta get the W and play who's on the schedule. In years past they would drop those games. Yes its too early, but this 4th game will be very telling. They say by that 4th game you are what you are. We gonna find out Sunday. Are we Cincinatti or are we the dang Dallas Cowboys? No more excuses. Time to go out and show it or just shut up...meaning guys like Jaylon and DLaw. They need to show up or SHUT UP. I am tired of hearing them run their yappers. This is big boy fb,not woulda coulda crap. They get paid to wear the star and go win.Not be invisible.

agree totally. If we are being real here, we need to admit this. Lets not forget how terrible our ball security has been and special teams. Factor all this in, and thats why we are not 3-0, which we easily could have been if we played better on D and special teams. We were a gnats hair away from winning the Rams game and at Seattle. Despite the shoddy defense and special teams. The offense carried us so far and its time the defense gets it act together. That said, I don't think we are good enough on D to play much better. I just think we are overvalued there. Truth is, we are rebuilding.

Scrappy? Lol.

Reminds me of car reviews where they say a car they tested is "peppy". Meaning slow, but hey, can't offend the manufacturers too much, they'll quit sending cars to the reviewers to test.

Scrappy is a buzz word for not very good....

Not to change the subject, but just saw an article noting that the Cowboys have started the season with 3 straight one score games. That's happened 4 times before in Cowboys history, and in only one of those seasons did the Cowboys make the playoffs, the 1979 season, and of course that was only 2 years removed from the SB win. This team is coming off an 8-8 season.

Hopefully we can start a new string of playoff seasons after these 3 games, but the history ain't looking good...

They still won that game. Does that not count? This is the NFL. There is no asterisk. Joe Burrow is a stud at QB. Lets just see what happens come Sunday. I want nothing more than to be proven wrong. I'm just being totally objective.

And if you’re ‘being objective’, you will also realize that those ‘scrappy’ Bengals earned themselves the #1 overall pick last year. As Washington earned the 2nd overall pick. By being bad football teams.

Right, we were a better team than LA and Seattle offensively and our defense just can't stay healthy. And they can't catch a damn cold in the secondary.

yep, well said. If we just played a tiny bit better on D, we might be 2-1 right now at least. Our defense is a hot mess in the secondary. The dline has actually imrpoved. I'm not so worried about that part. The back end tho,OH LORD lol. Diggs and Thompson dont belong out there starting. Its SO obvious. I think they are starting out of default.

THE MVP of the defense so far is Joe Thomas and Aldon Smith. They are keepers. Hill has showed promise, but everyone else is very shakey.
