Didn't Eli win two super bowls?

He still has 2 rings. It was a combination of things. His D stepped up when they had to, his running game was very good and scored points, and Eli and his WRs made some great plays in clutch situations down the stretch. The helmet catch for one. Without that one play it's another ring for Brady!

The league isn't the same as it was in 2015.

How about two years ago?

Patriots 13
Rams 3

The myth that KC won on offense last year is just that - myth. They got beat in 2018 because they gave up 38 points to NE in the CCG.

Last year they dropped their points allowed per game by a TD - they won the SB.

Even in the OMG-Mahomes 4th quarter SB comeback, it doesn't happen if the KC defense gives up points instead of giving the ball back to him.

Defense STILL wins championships. Any notion that you can just score a bunch of points and win without it is still fools' gold.

Eli didn't wilt in the moment, but without his defense keeping the game close there is no moment. The Giants held New England to 40 points in 2 SBs - pretty remarkable when you consider one of the NE teams was 18-0 and the highest scoring team in the league.

Yes, Eli made some plays. But it only mattered because his defense kept the game close. We have people who think the QB should win no matter how many points the defense gives up. That's nonsense.

You still need a good defense. A defense who can't take the ball away and gets torched in the passing game won't win anything - pick any QB you want, it's not happening,

That's the crazy thing about the QB position. Some think you can transplant a super bowl winning QB to any team in the league and he still wins championships regardless of the rest of the team.

Well done.

So many teams over the years have tried to win it w/ a powerful explosive O. It's never happened w/o a D. Even the 99 Rams, their D was ranked 4th, and was instrumental in an 11-6 win over TB in the playoffs that year.

D was huge in that playoff run. Those are the operative words.

But that defense was 29th in the league. That was only better than three other defenses.
Translation: a defense can up its game during the playoffs. And ... so ... can ... an ... offense.

Be that as it may, the statistics show that a team can have a better offense than defense and still win the Super Bowl.

We all pretty much knew going into the season that the Cowboys offense was going to be better than its defense. Yet, fans are trying to put the focus on the defense. In every game, the defense might have been not up to par, but it held the Rams to 20 points and we had a chance to win or tie the game at the end of regulation for Seattle. For a sorry defense, that's pretty good.

Our offense - being the stronger unit - needed to make the plays to win the game but couldn't. I'm not going to argue whose fault in was in terms of naming players. But the reality is that this team will built on offense to give Dak as many weapons as he could to be successful.

Again, the jury is still out. But we've had an opportunity in every game to win, and our strongest unit couldn't.

We know we're not going anywhere solely on our defense. But we can go somewhere with the talent we have on offense, if it plays like it's supposed to.
Nobody was arguing that. However, the point remains, you must have a decent D to win a super bowl. We are going nowhere w/ our O talent as long as our D remains this atrocious.

Man, I usually agree with you on a lot of topics.

For sure not this one.

And Eli and Aikman's playoff records certainly on "pretty much identical".

I think Eli might be (not sure) the NFL's all-time leader in one-and-dones in the playoffs with 4. 4 out 6...1 and done.
He was truly god-awful 4 out of his 6 playoff seasons.

Then he has the two SB's. It's bizarre.
Either all or nothing.

Aikman started in 7 post-seasons and Dallas advanced in 5 of them. And 3 Super Bowls is 50% more than 2. It is a big difference.
His playoff QB rating was way than his regular-season's....which is really unusual.

manning won 8 straight playoff road games, two championships against the greatest defensive coach who has ever been in the league.

aikman went 11-2 in that stretch from 92-96. 8-0 and 11-2 are on par to me. Aikman did not play that well and the offense did practically nothing vs arz and minn esota in 98 and 99.

very similar to me. Both had great defenses, good special teams and hall of fame coaches and teammates

No he actually wasn't.. Look it up.. His numbers in the playoffs were very pedestrian. They were slightly better than his regular season but only because he stunk in the regular season for the most part.
I don't think I'll ever comprehend the revisionist history about Eli.

Hades, Eli should pay for Kyle Williams' kid's schooling.

Eli's first two playoff wins came against the Bucs and then the Cowboys in 2007.. In those games he passed for 317 yards.. TOTAL. 177 against the Bucs and 140 against the Cowboys. Meanwhile the defense was forcing 7 turnovers in the 4 game run and held 3 of 4 playoff opponents UNDER 70 YARDS RUSHING!!! The lone exception? You guessed it.. The Cowboys ran for 154.. 90% of which came in the first half. Once the Giants put the clamps on Barber Romo couldn't get anything done. If people wanna credit Eli for being able to stop screwing up for two 4 game win streaks fine.. but I will never accept anybody holding up those two rings as indicative of any greatness on his part. His signature play was an eyes closed heave into coverage that should have been intercepted and some dude caught it on his helmet.

The 2011 Giants had the 27th ranked defense in yards and 25th ranked defense for points against.
Their PPG was lower than their PAPG. (points against per game)

Eli Manning threw for over 4,900 yards in the regular season(29-16) and in the postseason he threw for over 1,200 yards(9-1).
Get out of here with stats, they’re meaningless an irrelevant to most people unless those stars support their argument

Excellent points/stats that are often ignored around here because no one wants to give credit to Eli.

Eli's defense got him they and then just fortunate circumstances (David Tyree and Samuel drop) got him one Super Bowl but he played well when it counted for their Super Bowl runs. You don't have to be stellar all the time but you have to play really well for a few games straight.
He really didn't.

2011 playoff ratings of

129.3
114.5
82.3
103.7 (Super Bowl)

Total of 9 TD’s and 1 INT
SB MVP

Doesn’t look too pedestrian to me.

Brady 2011 playoff ratings of

137.6
57.5
91.1 (Super Bowl)

Total of 8 TD’s and 4 INT’s

If Eli was pedestrian I’d hate to guess what you would call Brady.

I did, the question is did you? Is this another case of the stats are wrong, the eye test is what really matters?

Sure, he got lucky with Tyree but almost every QB has a lucky pass or non INT every game. He threw some bombs to Cruz, and was throwing darts to Nicks regularly. I didn’t post his completion percentages but they were nothing ti sneeze at either.

Wrong! Dak doesn't have the consistency or accuracy. Eli was a beast once he got into the playoffs.

Go stare at your Barbie poster. No Cowboys QB has EVER won a playoff game when the opponent scored 30 or more. Eli was "a beast" when all he needed was 20 points to win the game. It's almost as if defense matters, or something.

Meredith, Morton, Staubach, Beuerlein, Aikman, Romo, Dak - 0-for-forever when the other team scores 30 or more in the playoffs. Funny how you only blame certain QBs.

What about all the games last year where Dak didnt throw a single TD until the 3rd quarter while the defense fought their tails off. I believe the defense was top 10 last year. Now Daks turning the ball over which is basically giving the other team points and you attributing those points to the defense. Dak would not of of won a SB with that Giants defense. Go back and watch the film and notice how well Eli played in the playoffs against GOOD TEAMS! There was a time where I thought Romo could of won a SB with that Giants defense but I soon realized he was too mistake prone at the worst times to make that it through that playoff run to get there.

The niners bad *** defense lost to chiefs and their meh D so yeah.

I mean you could say in 2019 the Pats won with their D?
The Chiefs made just enough changes on their D to bring it from the worst to the middle. Honey Badger and ex‐cowboy Hitchens were a big part of the impact. I miss Hitchens. Many thought getting rid of Hitchens was a good idea. He has led the Chiefs the last 2 years in tackles. Not a super star, but solid dependable player. We need more like him.

Nah.

The KC stops only had to do with the fact that the 9ers can't complete a pass more than two yards downfield
