If we got rid of Coop, it would be more of a salary dump than anything. However, there's some teams who could seriously use him, so it would be interesting to see if someone would bite.

Texans? Ravens? SEA? Packers? Just throwing out some names.

and depending on who they offer up. If I am trading a pro bowl WR I sure as hell do not expect to get a backup Defensive player, if they are not offering up a stud player then no.

It would most likely be a draft pick.

again it would have to be a #1 Cooper is 2nd in the NFL only behind Hopkins in receptions, people here are acting as if he a scrub. He is one of the top WR in the NFL and I expect something in return not like Houston did when they got rid of Hopkins.

Love Coop but at $20M I am expecting more from him. His knick knack injuries are starting to pile up. Not sure what the Cowboys can get for him, but trading him should be explored this offseason or sooner.

Thoughts?

The reasons you want to trade him would make it difficult to trade him -- other teams do their homework (except maybe the Jets).

Then there's the cap hit to the Cowboys to consider.

I can't believe I'm typing this but I think it's time to trade him. Gallup has WR1 traits. Cee Dee does as well. Cedric Wilson seems poised to be a good WR3. They are all on their rookie deals. Gallup gonna need a new contract and we know eventually Cee Dee gonna get a big 2nd contract.

I'll never understand why fans want to trade away good players when the team is not in all out tank mode and does not project to be in tank mode in coming seasons.

Teams are not going to give up a 1st for Cooper when it is obvious that he is not 100% healthy right now.

They finally have some depth at outside WR and it's not as if Lamb is at a position that only has 2 players on the field.

Lamb is the starting slot WR and the team's base offense is 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WRs).

His 2020 and 2021 salaries are fully guaranteed for injury and skill. He had a $10M signing bonus when he signed the contract. The reason why Spotrac would have the $28M as dead cap is because the remainder of the unamortized bonus ($8M) and the guaranteed salary ($20M) for 2021 would be the Cowboys responsibility if they cut him. If Cooper is traded, the Cowboys would have an $8M cap hit for his remaining bonus, but his salary guarantee would transfer to his new team.

That being said, no one will trade for a $20M guarantee on a good, but not great receiver.

You are right, that $20MM in 2021 becomes the cap responsibility of the new team.

I'm not willing to take that cap hit next year, but the year after I'd at least be interested to hear some offers.
Gallup will be a free agent after next season as well so we better keep at least one of them.
If Lamb continues his rate of climb he will be our #1 WR after next season, if not before. And if that's the case Cooper or Gallup could be expendable for the right price.

No, absolutely not. Cap hit too high. Need to wait until 2022 season. His contract cap hit is much less. Even if they just release him. Use that money to sign Gallup long term.
They made the deal so they can keep Cooper or Gallup when his rookie contract is up. Depending who has the more upside at less expense.

Good catch. It's good to look at details. But you're right, I doubt anyone takes on his contract.

Umm, why do you think CeeDee is open all the freaking time?

Fantasy football done made fans stupid.

Depends on their cap situation and how this season is going to affect that.

And it is not out of question that he would do a new contract, if he has a less than stellar season.

I would like it to be a 1, if he's traded. Hard to say.

Cap hit will only be 8 mil if he's traded.

Don't look at his numbers as much as the overall effect on the offense. Cooper is still job 1 for every secondary, he's still the guy to pull more doubles than Gallup or Lamb. That might change and when it does, he will be a handful if he is healthy.

I do not see the Cowboys trading him during this season because they need all the offense they can muster just to stay at .500 and in the hunt for the division.

Thing is the Cowboys have a say, I just don't think you trade away something of value for less value. Cooper has taken grief here yet is only 2nd to Hopkins in receptions and I think most see Hopkins as one of the tops in the NFL. Trade works for me only if we get what we want in return.

That's all fine and dandy, I'm just against trading him period. He's probably only going to be here one more year. What's the rush?

I'd only trade him if the return is significant.

The only rush is to get more cap room and assets to build the D. If we could get a 1 and his cap hit is only 8 mil, I'd do it. Why? Because we're simply going nowhere until we have a D, and we appear to be several players away.
