Jaylon Smith: Relentless Effort, Heart of a Champion

Luuuulz, you uneducated hack...let me help you. Santa Barbara is a Central Coast city, as is San Luis Obispo, Monterey, et cetera. Please dispute that so I can embarrass you some more. I can’t help you if the WyoTech curriculum didn’t include a geography course.

Comparing SLO to Santa Barbara is like comparing Abilene to Plano. I know its all you have to hold onto as you pass the days pumping gas at that Chevron station, but its pretty pathetic.

Now fill us in your accomplishments in life.

..ok, I'm defending Jaylon, he was gassed on those plays. .. ;)..

For Halloween, Jaylon should go as the Frankenstein monster. They have the same techniques in stalking their prey, as each just kind of lumbers around with arms outstretched, lurching and grabbing at people when they get near.

No, no, don’t pivot now donkey boy.

This is a matter of geography.

You thought San Luis Obispo was next to Fresno you dunce, lol.

I remember somebody saying if you don't support all the players you're not a fan. Lol I was done with him week 2-3 of last season. No idea how you can support a player like him. I loved him since he was drafted until last season. Never thought he'd be a guy to get paid and just quit and not care.

This is our self-appointed defensive “leader.”

Thomas and LVE would be better. They should just cut Jaylon so he doesn't get "injured" and cash out his injury guarantee the next couple of years. A mistake to have him on the roster one more year. Another Crawford style mistake. Just move on.

Maybe seeing Jaylon cut would motivate DLaw.

Hot Boyz!

100%

I end up saying it every Sunday now but he’s so bad at playing LB that I cannot take my eyes off him. It’s like a curse.

What’s hilarious is after the Giants game where he actually made some positive plays some of the board blowhards were crowing like “heeehaaw, he’s back!!! I thought you said he was supposed to suck?!?!.”

If you look at Jaylon plays against the Giants, they're of a particular type: moving forward and generally free of blockers. He can straight line run and make a hit.

Can't really take on blockers. Can't really stop forward momentum and cut. Just too physically limited not to be a liability on the field.

And yeah, often too damn lazy, though I think some of that is Jaylon *knowing* that he can't stop his momentum and cut, so he won't expend energy in those circumstances, while he will chase guys from a trailing position. See that Beckham reverse for details.

This. I've been saying it since last year. There's something physically not right about Jaylon. He regressed since 2018. Probably should have kept wearing that foot brace.
Another Jerry project has gone wrong......nothing new here!

Precisely.

He’s at his best running in straight lines and when tasked with a single read, but who isn’t though?

Problem is it takes much more than that to play linebacker well in the NFL.

I don’t care what version of a 34, 43, or subpackage you play in. Taking on blocks, making reads, agility and football intelligence is and always will be a prerequisite.

What a loser. Him, Zeke, DLaw and Crawford don't seem to care any longer. They all got paid big extensions, knowing it is their last one and frankly are coasting for an easy check. Screw all 4 of them. None of the have the same passion they once did.

So glad we rewarded his 2018 effort with a huge veteran contract.....2 years before his rookie deal expired. Good work by our FO.

Our front office desperately wanted this gimp's "feel good story" to be shown to the world. And to show everyone around the league how smart they were by taking this untalented gimp with a high 2nd round pick. Such a god awful waste. The pick and the extension.

Some of our fans have fallen so in love with the story they can’t see the player on the field for what he is.

I keep telling folks, don’t look at him as a feel good story. Rather, look at him as you would any linebacker trying to play the position.

I will weigh in on California geography. I live on the opposite coast but travel to CA often for work. I despise the state with all my being but no one can deny it’s the prettiest state in the country. LA has turned into a hell scape over the past few years but head a little south and San Diego is just amazing. The good people are still hanging on there so there is some hope. I travel to Carlsbad quite a bit. Great old surfing town. Heading East my buddy “retired” to Palm
Desert. It’s God Country out there. I love the mountains and the desert. Great golf. He loves it there but hates the politics. North of LA you got your Santa Barbara. Simply amazing. Top prettiest towns in America, no doubt. I used to travel to SF a lot when my employer was head quartered there. Stayed in the St Regis and used to shuffle down Howard St. Loved SF. True story Pink was chasing her kid in the St Regis and plowed into me. She was much hotter in person. Tiny and in shape. Another buddy of mines brother had a place in Truckee. Amazing. Great trout fishing in Truckee. SF now is in a major downward spiral. Homelessness is out of control. I have also been to San Jose, Bakersfield and Fresno. California’s bigger cities are meh. I worry about CA. Have a ton of great memories there.

The End

You guys that think Smith has physical limitations are nuts. With him it is 100 pct mental. Occasionally he will decide to play hard and he is explosive. He was everywhere in that Giants game. He moves well laterally and NS. He is an explosive tackler when he wants to be. He can handle blockers but he can also knife between them. He had rare quickness when he wants to play hard. His problem is that football is secondary. His primary MO is his brand.

If you watch that first clip, you can see that Jaylon is watching Murray the whole time, yet rather than react when he releases the ball, he waits until after Hopkins catches it and starts heading for the end zone. He might have been able to at least slow him down if he wasn't an idiot. It's like he was just hoping he'd drop it.
