From what I read they don't expect a 1st round pick for him but want more than a 2nd. So it will probably take a 2 and a later round conditional, a compensatory pick, or a player of some sort.

Honestly you trade for Quinnen, a formidable safety, and maybe one formidable OL and then you might actually have a football team where you can't make excuses for the coaches when they continue to suck.

I don't believe this rumor but it is an interesting argument. No, Williams is not going to help the Cowboys in 2020. Nothing would. But he is 22 and has 3 years left on his rookie contract so getting him would be like making your draft pick today instead of in April. Even if the Cowboys were lucky in the 2021 draft and a top DT falls to them i the 2nd round, he is not going to be effective in 2021. Look at the top DTs taken in 2020. Brown and Kinlaw are fighting for playing time. Probably the most effective DT coming out of the 2020 draft right now is Davon Hamilton. He is not dominating but he is plugging the gaps because he is big and strong. Quinnen Williams comes with experience and is ready to reach his potential now.

If the Jets are foolish enough to give him up for a 2nd round pick, even a pick in the top of the round the Cowboys would be dumb not to make the deal. Then they can use their first pick to either trade down for more picks or to grab a LB who can actually make plays.
This^^^^ :hammer:

If he only costs a 2nd you take that deal, and hang up the phone before the jets come to their senses. This isn't a rental player.

My guess is a contending team offers up a 1st though. This feel like the real estate agent that lists the house under value to create buzz and drive the price up.

Wouldn't it just be better to draft a guy and shed bad contracts - see Jaylon Smith, Demarcus Lawrence and Zeke?

The fact is you know Williams is good and he's still on the rookie contract. You're not getting out of any of those other contract soon.

I wonder what it would cost. The thing is if it’s a second. He’s better than any dt we’ll choose in the top 3-5 in the second round. But is that enough for the jets?

I think they want a 2nd rounder and a later pick. I'd gladly give them our 2nd and one of the later comp picks we have coming which are now tradeable, say a 5th.

Not sure, but if you do not re-sign him when it's over, then you get a comp pick.

Regardless what Dallas gives up for him, they'd have to hope he breaks out. Next year will be his 3rd. If he's still ho hum, then what?

What about Gallup for Williams straight up? Don’t get me wrong I love Gallup but WR is a position of strength and a weakness for the Jets. Don’t think we would be able to resign Gallup anyway with Cooper on the books.
