Goes back to the fact that Jerry and family are completely incapable of evaluating players.

Fortunately they do very little evaluating of players. The scouts and coaches do that. This team has pretty much always had talent under Jerry except in the late 90's to early 2000s when he held on to the Super Bowl old guard way too long. Aside from that stretch he's always put together a pretty good albeit flawed roster. And that flaw as we have discussed many times has typically come in the form of a blatant disregard for DTs and safeties. He has also tended to go top heavy to the detriment of depth. I firmly believe that had there been an actual offseason and preseason McCarthy and Nolan would have come into the season with a much better idea of what they had and what guys could and could not do. If Nolan can keep the defense playing with the level of effort it displayed last night I am willing to grant him the same mulligan I give McCarthy for this year. We know they're outmanned but if they keep fighting and flying to the ball the overall results will be satisfactory I think. Of course not every QB is going to be the absolute turd that Wentz was last night so we will just have to wait and see.

Trade value has to beat comp pick value. That's usually hard to do.

He has tailed off, but maybe they think he improves with more rotation between him and Gregory.

One of the reasons to play guys is to increase their contract next year, and thereby the comp pick we get for them. It won't be popular with fans, but it's can be a decent investment.

Many will probably want DiNucci to start over Dalton, but if we can make Dalton look like a starting caliber QB, we'll get a big fat comp pick for him. That's a decent investment of snaps. And while it would be fun to see Da Nooch, I don't see that he is that ready to benefit from snaps that much anyway, or is that close to being useful.

Aldon Smith will not have much comp pick value. A soon to be 32 year old end with a history of substance abuse and domestic issues isn't going to be a big dollar addition by anyone.

We certainly have a good shot at it
But you gain more by losing than winning right now
We couldn’t compete with any real playoff team

We're already one game behind both Philly and Washington, the Giants are playing for the highest draft pick possible, just hoping the Jets start to win a few so they can get the no. 1 pick.

May well come down to the division game tiebreaker, and Dallas is already behind the 8 ball...

Just as his previous play was long ago, so too were his off the field problems. By all accounts, he's gotten past them, and the lack of any problems this year should assuage any lingering worries.

Someone will bite. Probably a few someones. If his play solidifies. He's dropped off a little lately.

That's the way free agency works. You get paid by the team most optimistic about you, not the team most pessimistic.

The division is very bad
7 wins might get it
But it’s a usleless victory
I’d rather lose out and build a good team
And I’ve never wanted to lose
Our needs are big and having a top 5 pick in each round is huge

I cant tell if they think Aldon Smith is good and dont want to trade him or they know he sucks and no one is offering anything but they can't say that in public.

LOL.....yea, let's take this steamy pile of humanity into the playoffs so we can be completely embarrassed on national TV. Oh, but we won the division of misfit football teams.

7 wins will almost certainly get it. And I agree, don't want to win the division with 7 and get embarrassed in the playoffs.

Not that there's a snowball's chance in Hades of that happening. There's nobody due back that will make a measurable difference, and with teams like Pittsburgh to play the players we have are woefully inadequate for the job...

What's new? This FO has always refused to take the difficult steps needed to actually rebuild a roster. They've always preferred sustained mediocrity to starting over, regardless of how upside down they are in talent/value on the roster.

At the end of the year, the record will have nothing to do with what Stephen thinks. Personally, i'd like to see us stick with qb ben. Forge him in fire.

Of course he does, he is Jerry's offspring....he also thinks he's a football man...and .lunacy and big ego runs in the family. Except for Charlotte, i think she would make a great owner, leave all the football to competent hires.

...well, Red Laser didnt fare well Vs Wash. What makes Stephen think the situation will be different this time? Unless they modified his bionic legs, the red dots will connect the same.

You have to distinguish Stephen the salesman from FO Stephen.

Not that we will win the division but even if we did, why would you want to? So we can go get embarrassed in the playoffs? I’d match rather rebuild the team with high draft picks.

Jones family reminds me of those super rich people who go out and buy exotic cars only to crash them as they have no experience driving such cars.

Major ice storm here, no power in almost a week, phone almost dead but just had to log in to say big enos and little enos are delusional. Would any other organization hire either of them for any football operations?
Ahhh..

no.

But if I was looking to increase my profits..

In a NY nano second I would hire him.
