In other words, do you STILL want him fired regardless of what happens the rest of the season OR did last night give reason to pause, as in he may not be that bad after all? So I'm not turning it in........yet (LOL)

I'm sure he's thinking or telling his guys THIS is what my D should look like.

I'm willing to keep him around. I like what I saw last night. Let's see what happens next season.

Division games are hard to gauge, ergo, the Giants weren't supposed to hang with us. They did.
We weren't supposed to hang with Philly. We did.
We showed some improvement and much better effort, but did we turn the corner is yet to be decided.

Even if we keep Nolan I'd rather go back to a traditional 4-3.

no.
off-season matters.
mini-camps.
training camps.
theres a reason they do all that ****.
we didn't have one.
i expect we will next season.
and fundamentals will be better.
doesnt mean the defense will be elite...but fundamentals will be better.

We "took a step in the right direction" because Wince is garbage. If we hold up against Pittsburgh, then that will be a step in the right direction.

I think the trouble with our defense is a combination of Nolan's defense being complex and too much of our talent being poor.

The Cowboys FO hasn't tended to acquiring the level of talent needed to field a reasonably good defense.

The next draft should be seriously devoted to improving at least several defensive positions.

Our standards are so low that we are considering keeping Nolan because he had one somewhat okay game against an overrated QB with okayish weapons and a janked up O-line. Tell ya what. If this defense looks like this against the Steelers and the Ravens, yeah, maybe give him another shot. If the defense looks like they did against the Browns, then the Philly game was nothing but an anomaly from our defense.

We always needed to give the scheme time to grow and develop and for the players to settle into it. The defense might still end up sucking, but there's little reason to make a change now. If it hasn't made a lot of progress by the end of the season, then see who else is out there and make a change.

I hope the more aggressive approach we took in this game is where Nolan wanted to go with the scheme and we see more of that instead of whatever we were trying to do the first part of the season. Of course, that aggressiveness could have been based on who we were playing, so we'll see.

Was our defense really that good or Wentz that garbage?

It was good seeing the D get some TOs and stops. However, I'm not changing my opinion after 1 game against the Eagles. We'll see how they do against the Steelers this week. One game at a time.

Either the players are bad or the coaches are bad.

For anyone that believes the coaches are bad, then how can they also blame the coaches?

They could have continued being a middle of the pack defense with Marinelli but were never going to be a great defense.

I really don't know about Nolan, but it is really impossible to know at this point unless you believe that this group of players is much better than their performances.
Nolan is a yes man to MM,, but in no way do I put it all on Nolan.
This defense has been neglected for so many years, we need talent first, coach second, so Nolan gets a pass, but he probably gets fired as the scapegoat.

The defensive line has been bad for a long time - Marinelli never coached up anyone here in Dallas and wasn't able to replicate his success from Tampa over here. Nolan takes over and we demand that he use the garbage left by Marinelli to make a great defense.
Im not endorsing Nolan, but can anyone really expect any DC in the league to perform with this total dump of a defense?
Even John Butler would be run out of Dallas with this below marginal talent.
I dont think most fans realize or want to realize how below par the talent is on this roster.
Wake up call to Cowboys Nation.

Having Lee back is big. I wouldn't underestimate the impact of him being on the field in terms of getting the defense lined up.
