The controller is something I always thought the Xbox won with. Up until very recently, I was using an old XB 360 controller at work. Probably gone through half a dozen PS4 controllers in that time.
Agreed. It's pretty much consensus that the ergonomics of the x controllers are more precise in terms of ones hands. With the dual sense though I just want to feel like I'm walking on sand or going underwater. That sounds cool. But in my opinion the X controllers are the goat. I loved the 360 controller so much

I hear you, man. It is nice to have the tech match up, but years ago I decided to get out of that rat race. For a long time, I did it and spent so much $ needing to have the latest and greatest, especially with TVs and PCs. For me personally, whatever the latest thing is almost immediately becomes the new standard that I no longer appreciate. It's like the first time I got a 4K TV. I was blown away but it only lasted a day or two. Now I only notice it if I look at a 1080P TV. I got a new TV a year ago that was a lot better than the old one and it was the same thing.

I have no doubt that the new console looks great on your current setup. Sure it will look even better with 2.1 and 120hz but you'll be able to get that for less than half the price in a few months. All of the tech industry is a brilliantly marketed deal designed to drain our bank accounts (can't really blame them because profits are what it's all about). Several years ago, I paid about 250 bucks for a 4K TV on a Black Friday deal. My brother bought the same TV for over 2K when it first came out.
All that being said, if I had more money than I knew what to do with, I would buy everything new that came out!
Chasing tech used to be my thing. I've worked/work in a tech world and it's always interested me.

A lot of times I did swing and miss with technology.

When I was in high school I invested in a reel to reel system because that was supposed to be the best for audio.
I had the most high end car stereo I could afford. I was always upgrading.
I bought a Commodore VIC 20 pretty much the day it was released. I loved that little computer.
I purchased a Betamax because I **knew** that technology was the best
I was a huge Amiga fan because it could do things a PC couldn't do (multi-tasking was one)
I eventually turned to PC and every year or so I upgraded to the best PC I could afford.
I bought an expensive VCR because it could play any standard (NTSC/PAL/etc.)
When CDs came out I was one of the first to buy a CD player (at insane price).
I was one of the first people to buy a HDTV. It was a 65" rear projection TV I got from Sears. It was an insane amount of money; especially when you considered there was ONE channel that had any kind of HD content. It was PBS, and let's face it, not all their programming was interesting, but the visuals amazed me.
I got a PS3 because it offered a Blu-ray player. After I retired from the Air Force I worked on the road and for entertainment I watched movies a lot (2007). I paid Netflix extra for the Blu-ray option. Playing games was an afterthought because I had a very capable laptop to play PC games, but eventually I migrated to the PS3 to play games.
My last foray to tech was when I got a 3D TV around 2014. I hoped it would catch on because I love watching movies in 3D. I had Lasik surgery in 2002 and until then I had no real depth perception, even though I was pretty good in sports. Before I had Lasik I could not enjoy watching a 3D movie because I could not see the 3D. I signed up with ESPN 3D and watched all the events they showed in 3D. Even the World Cup I watched in 3D, and it was amazing to see. It added an element that was amazing.
By then I started to get burned out. The 4K TVs hit and the upgrades kept coming and I thought there was no sense in trying to keep up. I was happy with my TV and as I got older I knew there was no sense in trying to get "better" because I was happy with what I had.

However; with the PS5 I'm hypnotized by it and I REALLY want to take advantage of it's specs and I'm willing to spend too much money to get a TV to match it's maximum requirements.

Cool to hear there are others like me and you just brought back a lot of memories man. I spent crazy money on a lot of what you mentioned. I bought an Amiga back in the day. I bought one of the first CD players when there were hardly any CDs. I spent over 2K on a 486 / 33 PC when that was top of the line. I ended up selling that for 5 bucks just to get it out the way. Video card upgrades, TVs, etc. I could go on and on. I will invest in the new consoles and a TV that takes advantage but just don't feel the need to do it right away.

2000 bucks :laugh::laugh:That's insane.
At least currently one can get a very good processor and mobo for a very decent price especially with AMD doing better, SSD's are cheaper than they have even been but sadly RAM can be expensive as well as video cards. I spent 430$ on a video card about 3 years ago and that seemed like a lot. I have a gaming buddy that has a 2080 Titan which i believe go for around 900 lol.

If there is one thing i have learned about chasing tech is you will always end up tired and in some cases, broke.

You have to understand that my 2K included the price of a top of the line 14 inch CRT monitor that weighed about 80 pounds. LOL! Those early PC days were hilarious. When I first started in the game biz, they had me testing one of the Ultima games with monochrome graphics. That was two shades of brown. Once I proved myself, I got to move to CGA, which was an astounding 4 colors.

Which Ultima game did you test?
I have dabbled around on some of the private servers but never got to play the game in its original form back in the day.

I think it was Ultima III but I had played at least the 2nd one before I started working at Origin. I ended up working on all of them and the spinoffs like Ultima Underworld, Martian Dreams, etc.

Had to go look up Ultima 3 and found this on its wiki page lol
"The demon figure that appeared on the front of the box caused some religious fundamentalists to protest. They made accusations that the game was corrupting the youth of America and encouraging Satan worshiping".

Which Ultima was it where a player killed Lord British in game?
I remember reading this and thinking how funny.

I was looking for the other thread that a few of us were talking about video games in but I couldn't find it. So, I made a new one. :D

Any Battlefield fans here? I was playing the Battlefield V beta last night. Really solid. They added a few nice touches to the game. I thought the graphics were amazing.

Also, I rented the new Spider-Man for the PS4 but I was having a tough time getting it loaded last night. Hopefully it is good now and I can actually check it out today.

Who is playing what?

That first part is hilarious to me as I did the exact same thing. I bought into the DLP technology (it's the mirrors!) when 1080P was the king of the block. I also always turned to PBS to show it off. My mom came over one time and I was like "you have to see this!". Flipped it over to PBS and they were showing some program about The Bahamas and we were oohing and aahing at the colors and picture. Be funny to take a time machine back to that moment and chuckle at what we were impressed by. I remember packing that TV home thinking it was the coolest thing ever. I ended up just giving it away. It was a Samsung and she was still purring, though it did need a new bulb. but that DLP tech just died off fast. TV was worthless at that point.

Onto your 3D comment, we have 2 TVs in the house that are capable. In fact my Sony 4K is 3D (though they didn't even both packaging glasses with it. Thanks Sony). It was all the rage in the early 2010s. I thought it was cool. I didn't use it too much on my TV but I thought it was a neat option to have and figured it would last longer than it did. It pretty much came and went within a few years, or so it seemed like. I remember Black Ops 2 even had a 3D mode in the game. Not a lot of people knew about that. I tried it a couple times, and while it was cool, it was only good for a couple games before it just started messing with my head.

There were definitely people who were convinced that we were a bunch of devil worshipers sitting around holding rituals. The company slogan was "We create worlds" and they did not like that. We thought it was pretty funny.

You could kill Lord British in most of the games but I think the one you're referring to was Ultima Online. When Lord British was killed that time, he was actually being controlled by the real-life Lord British.

I ended up giving my HDTV away as well. When I replaced it with the TV I have now I couldn't believe the difference. Even though my new TV was smaller (60") it seemed bigger because it was brighter and clearer.

Are you familiar with Shroud of the Avatar, which is supposed to be Lord British spiritual successor to Ultima Online? It has less than stellar reviews and check out some of these prices in the store.
