If this holds, it could create a lot of good/quality players being cut, creating a bonanza 2021 free-agent market/opportunity. It's also why we'll see min 2021 draft trades IMO. Picks are way too valuable, even lower rounds.

I don't trust the Jones and this Front Office's ability to properly assess and address the talent deficiencies on this roster. They've proven over the last 25 years to constantly ignore glaring needs and a stubbornness in giving multiple chances to players they have anointed (overpaid and overdrafted).

However, one thing I will give the Jones' credit for is what I call "creative financing"

If they can sign Dak to a similarly-structured (but lower) contract to what Mahomes signed and do their typical restructures (Martin, Smith, Collins, Amari, Zeke, etc), they have a real opportunity to add significant talent in both the draft and free agency this off-season.

The issue will be, will they continue to throw money at washed up free agents (HaHa Clinton-Dix, Dontari Poe) or will they sign players who can actually improve the team (Justin Simmons, Dalvin Tomlinson).

With all the uncertainty of That Which Shall Not Be Named, locking in guaranteed money was probably the smart move. I think Henry did that.

Before TWSNBN, the Kirk Cousins path to riches looked like the good move. Now, not so much.

Big question - will the Cowboys even *want* Dak at 38mil? What really hurts about his second franchise tag is that it is a straight 20% increase from *this* year, regardless of how the cap drops next year.
 
I might be remembering wrong, but didn't the Cowboys just open up a ton of cap room in 2021 last summer by restructuring D-Law, Zack Martin, and Tyron Smith's contracts? Might be the only smart move they made this past offseason in anticipation of this.

Just my opinion but I'm 100% confident Dak won't see the 2nd tag. First, I'm guessing they BOTH now regret they didn't get the deal done before the July 15 deadline. Remember even Dak admits he would have accepted the last min July offer but they ran out of time. My guess is that offer will still be there and with a few tweaks, Dak will accept it. In other words, there's a ton of motivation on both sides to get the deal done......immediately after the season.
 
The reality is this team is likely going to be on the side of cutting a productive player than a team that can reap the benefits of other teams having to cut really good players to fit under the cap.

Because when you account for Dak and his tag, we don't have a lot (or any) cap space to play with based on the projected league cap for next year. If he does sign, that probably creates another $10MM or so in space but that's not a lot.

We are likely going to have to restructure some guys to get enough space to fill out a roster. I suspect draft picks are going to be vitally important for roster construction too.

But I heard it right here that because they didn't sign him long term yet they are going to let him go. I mean we have some real geniuses' here right?

They began this season going into next year with like $2M cap room (not counting potential franchise tag for Dak).

I believe they are currently looking at $20M in cap room (again, not counting Dak) for 2021.

Also, Cooper's contract was designed for multiple restructures. Expect some cap relief there for sure.
