No the reason this team wants a high pick to begin with is not a magic bullet. It’s hoping you can take advantage of QB needy teams that want to trade up and give you multiple picks. More shots at the dart board give you the best opportunity plus it fills out the top heavy roster with cheap talent.
yep....that's about right....I just don't see it happening our way.

Because you’re rooting for the best chance to win a championship. If you think the team has the talent to turn it on then you go down with the ship. I was rooting for the team last year to beat the Eagles in that week 16 game even if it took 8-8 to get to the playoffs because we had the talent to win.

But when you know the defense can’t hang with even average offenses and the OL is devastated, it’s best to give you the best options for the future.

The worst thing is to make the playoffs and go 1 and done when the alternative is get a top 10 pick and give yourself more options to replenish your team.
I agree 100% with this.

You and I don't always agree...but this...is a FUNDAMENTAL agreement and philosophy in life.

I will ALWAYS strive for the win in everything I do....and I expect my team to do the same. Down to the last second of every game and last second of every season and last second of every day...I expect the best ...for the win.

It's like if you can;t reach your sales goal for the week, month, year.....you just give up so they lower it for next year? A recipe for unemployment. Not to mention your pathetic principles.

What about when the marines lowered the door to exit the landing craft approaching omaha beach? An impossible unwinnable scenario. Let's "tank".

I think it's another internet development. Some idiot sees something they read and thinks that is a cool thing. JOIN the so in the know KOOL KIDS KLUB!

Back in the day we never saw such a thing. And us who were there...will never see or understand such a thing. You play to win all the way to the end. Losing for Draft pick position is not winning. It's a fairy dust wish.
You don’t set out at the year wanting to lose. It only happens when you’ve lost 3 All Pros on the OL, your pro bowl QB and the defense is horrible.

The coaches and players will always play to win. They are fighting for their job. But for me as a fan I only take joy when I feel we actually are playing well. Today I don’t think we played well at all. The Bengals just gave that game away.

I want us to lose in the hopes of being able to build better for the future. However on game day while I'm watching I do want them to win.

And back in the day? Does that refer to 1989 when Jimmy did this very thing.

I would always play for a win. And, yes, I've coached a couple of meaningless games, but I coached to win. I would never give my players any less and I wouldn't expect them to give me any less.
And college and HS are TOTALLY different than the NFL. In college and HS you need to try to win every game for recruiting or team morale. You don’t get anything by losing because you’re on your own for acquiring talent. The NFL determines how you’re awarded that talent.

If you've ever strapped it on, you would not keep like that. ALL games are important!
Not as a fan!
Of course as a player and coach you always want to win.

Beating the Bungles because they fumbled the ball away 3 times doesn’t help this team next year at all.

Lose close game the rest of the way and get a better draft pick!

I just don't get it. Why would anyone root for a loss???? Yeah, yeah, higher draft pick, but that's not a guarantee. How can anyone watch their team and hope that they lose????
To me losing sucks and getting a higher draft pick is a consolation prize or a rationalization to deal with the suckiness of losing. So if we lose I'm kind of mad but I can take solace in a better draft pick. The only time I ever want to lose is if I know it would hurt Jerry to the point of making changes.

So the way I look at it is we had 2 wins this week and 1 loss. We lost to the Ravens on Tuesday but won on thursday or friday, whichever day it was, when they announced us getting bumped from SNF. Then we win today.

So this week we're 2-1 as far as I'm concerned and I'm in a good mood and I'm not apologizing for being happy about this team tonight. I'm enjoying the rare win for this season. And I'm happy for Dalton, DLaw, Coop and eveone else that had a good game.

You're right but even if we got picks 1-7 in a row before anyone else could pick, the Jones plungers would stuff things up. We've seen the crap show before LOL.

When teams implicitly lay down and quit that implies tanking. So I dont buy tanking is for losers. Tanking is quick reboot

why root for a loss at thsi point? Because any sign of progress (ie. a win vs. an awful team) will put confidence into the idiots who own this team, that we've turned a corner and look for positives out of this season

You must not understand the difference between drafting elite talent and drafting lower rated talent. You can dismiss it all you want, but drafting elite talent means drafting difference makers. Any wins from this season only serves to hurt the chances of drafting an elite player. Maintaining that high draft position was the only positive that could have been took from this game , but this team even screwed that up. This win against a terrible team is not something that the team can build on for the future. It is impossible to say that the Cowboys played well, because of the level of competition. If you can’t understand how useless this win was, and that it will hurt the team over the long run, then there is just no helping you.

Sure there is carryover. Players talk about it all the time.
They may talk about it if they are on a winning streak and there might be carryover if they beat a decent team and they was trying to make the playoffs, but none of that applies to this situation. There is nothing to be proud of when you beat a team as sorry as the Bengals and they can’t really feel good about individual performances because the Bengal’s players are worse than the Cowboys. This win will have a negative effect on the team for years to come. Missing out on the elite talent in this draft, which does not have much top end talent, will hurt for a long time.
