For every QB coming out in this draft to shine. Lawrence and Fields are probably givens at the top 2 picks but the more QB's like Trask, Wilson, Jones and Lance look good they entice teams to move up and take QB's off the board and move what this team needs down the board and within reach.

Six QB's are thought to be 1st rounders in this draft and where they fall is critical to the Cowboys, now in 5th but with 4 other 4-9 teams so they could actually win their way out of the top 10.

That might not affect some teams but this team needs their 1st rounder to start from day 1. And he needs to be a necessity pick, not a luxury pick like this last draft.

So a team with the #2 passing offense and bad D takes a WR in the 1st and that's not a luxury pick?
Correct.

Your third WR is a starter. It's not like there was a difference-making defensive player available.

I don't understand why fans just want to use the draft to fill holes. It's an endless cycle of "let this guy go, replace him with a draft pick." If you don't use the draft to build positions of strength, you'll never get better.

And the Cowboys got better?

I'm not rooting for that.

Dallas has pissed away so much talent over the last 25 years. All of a sudden the brain trust will do it right next year? Don't hold your breath.

Exactly. All of this fussin' over draft position while the same two bozos are going to do the picking, again. I guess we just need to give them another 25 years.

I’d rather them take lamb than klavon chaisson who is looking like another taco.

I would have loved a difference maker on defense, but sometimes you’ve gotta just make sure you hit on your pick, and the cowboys did.

That's some backwards thinking. Your positions of strength will then be negated by your weaknesses. Which is what's been happening.

Nobody is moving up for Trask or Jones - it's debatable whether they're even first rounders.

The real hope of a team moving up is that they think Lance is Mahomes.

Lamb wasn't a luxury pick
You might be right about trask/jones, but you never know. Wentz was being mocked in the 2nd before the senior bowl. You also had the chiefs trade up for maholmes who was considered 2nd tier of that draft.

What defender was going to turn this season around? If anything the cowboys were likely to take chaisson who has been a bust so far.

First, the draft is gonna change quite a bit between now and then.

This is the most odd draft in recent memory as far as evaluations.

If you arent picking first....which has been over for weeks as I've been saying....I'm not sure how much it ultimately matters.

Sure, 5 or 6 is generally better than 8 or 9....but this is a ton of fuss when the player you get at 6 may very well be worse than the player youd take at 9.

Yea, but Wentz was always a first-round physical talent, the questions were just about the small school thing. Mahomes suffered because of he wasn't a "pro style" QB.

Neither of those things matter as much anymore, and the league is much more QB driven now even than it was then. You're not going to have teams like the 3-13 Jags and 5-11 Jets pass on QBs. Even if you think Lance is "second tier" of the draft, you're probably going to have to go up near the top 5 to get him.

I can forgive them for Lamb, but it's not this one draft that's the problem. We keep doing it, leading to severe weaknesses that show up in games such as the Rams playoff games w/ their 200+ yds rushing against us. That game clearly showed a terrible drafting strategy. I've heard all the talk about our scheme being bad in that game and I'm sure it's true. However, the point remains that if we have, say, Brockers and Jarron Reed in the middle, that rushing game against us doesn't happen.
