I was raised to be tough and not show emotion. My dad is 85....he's 6'3" and 220lbs. I have seen him every day since March and he is the main reason I retired from coaching. I love him more than anything, but I cannot bring myself to tell him that or even hug him. Is that weird?

I can totally relate, but please take some friendly advice and hug him and tell him you love him before its too late. You'll feel so much better.

No day is promised for anyone.

Hug your dad. Today.

Tell your dad you love him. Today.

Both my folks are gone. I would hug the crap out of them right now if I had the chance. And they would tell me to shut up from saying 'I love you' too freaking much.

1. Hug
2. I love you

That is your to-do list. Salud!

By now, I'm sure your dad knows that you're a tough guy, and I'm sure he wouldn't care if you weren't. Hug the man. Tell him you love him. Maybe he wants to do it too, but doesn't want to make you feel weird. In the end, what's a moment or two of awkwardness, compared to the regret of never having shown him how you feel?

It may be awkward, but I would force the hug on em Coach. A lot of fathers don't build that bond with their kids, so no shame "forcing" some love back on him for that hard work.

Or the Predator hand shake if he won't budge:D

As long as you and your Pop genuinely feel love and respect for each other, there are many ways to share those expressions. No one can know better than you and him as to what that looks like. My Dad is the same age as yours and we don't share much in the way of physical gestures, but I would do anything for the man. There is no one on this earth I respect more and my hope at 58 is to become half the man he has always been.

Happy New Year to both of you.

Thanks brother!!! My dad came from Mexico, never saw me play football and didnt go to one of my games as a coach until my first playoff game. There were 13,000 fans and he loved it!!! We won and the look on his face was priceless! He knows I love him and I know he loves me. I'll surprise him and give him a big squeeze someday!!
