Cowboys Zone needs to stop listening to talking heads or YouTube when it comes to Dak. Pay attention to the other NFL quarterbacks and you will find the answers to why Dak has not signed a long term deal.First of all it is clear Dak wants to be the Cowboys quarterback long term. Just look at all of endorsement deals he has. The man has not played a lick of football since October and I have seen him on commercials as much as Rodgers and Mahomes. That is because he is the Cowboys quarterback. I think he just wants financial freedom. He wants a short term deal so the Cowboys cannot control him. He does not want to be Rodgers, Goff, Wentz and Stafford. Those guys were at the mercy of their franchise. Dak is fine with the money I believe. He just wants the freedom to control his own destiny. I think Dak is fine with playing on the tag again. These endorsements have given him lots of power. The media will put it out there that he is not respected by the Cowboys. That is not true. Supposedly Dak is working with the Cowboys medical staff and comes into the Star. If there were issues he would be on his own.

I don't think the demand for the short term deal is really Dak's idea. I think it's the agent's. France is trying to build his brand. Every time he negotiates a "highest paid playing yadda yadda yadda" deal he gains 2 dozen clients. If Dak signs a long term deal he doesn't get to dip back into that well soon enough for his tastes. I believe if it were up to Dak he would sign a 10 year deal and never have to go through this crap again. He wants to be here.. the team wants him here. It should not be this hard. The only fly in the ointment is the agent.. Dak already has financial freedom. Depending on what source you believe he is making between 10 and 20 million in endorsements this year alone. Even if it's the low end number he's set for life. So that aint it. What Dak and his agent need to realize is that if you sign a short term deal and something goes awry.. Dak gets hurt.. Dak gets covid .. a new coach comes in and the team goes to hell.. That new deal he would want in 3 years might be a lot less than what he can get now. If the team does go sub .500 the next three years 40 million a year turns into Cam Newton/Jameis Winston money. And the kicker is, Dak could play really well but the team could be so bad it doesn't make a difference. As I keep saying, if he doesn't see and understand that a short term deal that screws up the cap also means he gets to play with crappier teammates then I don't want him here anyway. I have no desire to watch him put up great numbers while going 7-9.

Brady
Rodgers
Montana
Staubach
Just to name a few.

Dude come on.. No QB has ever carried a team.. Not one.. not ever.. This is football not hoops.. The QB is standing on the sidelines for 60% of the game. So please.. just stop it. Let's not fall into the same brain dead narratives that the talking heads keep foisting upon us.

Dak is a top 5 quarterback. You sign him and go get two 1sts if you want to move on. One thing I’ve noticed about the kid is every year he’s gotten better. Watching how stiff and bad his mechanics were his first two years in the league it’s like he’s a completely different quarterback today. I hope the progress would continue in spite of getting paid. It rarely does for players.. However, That said.

5,000 yard 30+ TD quarterbacks don’t grow on trees. He’d have a market.

I would like to have seen Dak play a full season in 2020 like he started the 2019 season. Unfortunately he got hurt.

There is no question that Dak has continued to improve his game every year in the league. I think if he finishes 2020 healthy he would have been in the MVP conversation with something like 5500 yards 35 TDs and the Cowboys would have won at least 10 games. I still don't think it would have been enough to overcome that horrible defense against a playoff team but you never know. Sometimes you get in and things click. But you have to get in.. I have little doubt that Dak's trajectory will still be upward when he gets back. Hopefully he gets some preseason games this year to knock off the rust but if he does I think he will pick up where he left off once the season starts. If there is no preseason maybe he will take a game or two in the regular season to find his rhythm.

4 year deal at near 40 mil per.

If it didn't work out and you find yourself in a similar situation that the Rams were just in.

How many no 1's would you have to trade to rid yourself of Dak's (much worse than Goff's) contract and obtain a legitimate contending QB?
What kind of ridiculous “what if” scenario is this?

What if monkeys fly out of my butt?

What will we do then !?!?!

There are a thousand ways to say you hate Dak. Now there apparently are a thousand and one

I hadnt thought about it until reading your post,, so thank you,,, and question..
I thought France was let go from the CAA... so has Dak retained contract with France or CAA?
I honestly havent thought about it until just now.... anyone?

There has been no statements otherwise. France has dozens of NFL clients. I imagine he would take most with him.

The CAA and France relationship is about France’s business, not necessarily Dak or any of this other clients

Why? Is Romo coming back? 8-8 was his specialty..

Last 4 years with Dak Prescott: 29 Wins 24 Losses

That averages out to be 8.7 Wins and 7.27 Losses........so how is it not Dak's specialty as well then??????

And here I thought I weeded out all the Dak haters. Ignore Ignited! With an elite team around him. He wouldn't last in todays NFL. He'd be sharing hospital rooms w/Wentzie!
you mean the weak league called the nfl of today, you have that backwards they protect qbs, they protect Wrs get them Wide open compared to Aikman's days where you could push hold and shove, and make defenses work to even tackle legally..seriously what the flip have you been watching?..Aikman would have lasted twice as long as he did..

dak wouldn't have last a year in that era because he would SEE anyone open and hes not timing based passer and doesnt throw into tights windows..sorry you have it bass akwards..the only reason a lot of these average qbs make it today as starters is the new age rules..

I could’ve swore I saw it was friendly to cut him after next year....

I think this year it was ~27.5mil guaranteed and 2022-23 was ~15.5mil guaranteed in salary.

Otc had it that way and a few other websites mentioned the 43mil guaranteed in salary(maybe piggy backing off otc)

Spotrac had a tweet stating the lions would still be on the hook for that 43mil, and that he would be on the roster this year due to that.

The Rams have a defense that can actually win. Until the Cowboys put together a decent one there's no point in Rams comparisons.

How can Dallas build a viable defense when they keep throwing #1 picks and large salary cap resources to the offense?
