Not in the bigger picture. Most felt it was a temporary setback and didn’t have any effect on the value of the franchise . And it wasn’t even publicized until Jethro mentioned it after purchasing the team .So, just to reiterate, you know possibly thousands of Cowboys fans, and they all agree losing a million dollars a week isn’t a big deal.
Cool.
To be honest, I bet those same fans are also the ones who wanted Jerry to sign them, and pay them the money. Now, they pretend like they never liked them.In a general sense, it’s because ownership takes the risk. But it has nothing to do with greed. It’s a recognition that resources in the salary cap era are scarce.
And in that sense, I don’t think they’re really siding with ownership; I’ve yet to meet the fan who defends Jaylon and Zeke’s contracts.
Not in the bigger picture. Most felt it was a temporary setback and didn’t have any effect on the value of the franchise . And it wasn’t even publicized until Jethro mentioned it after purchasing the team .
And it was estimated at about a million a month not a week.
Most of these owners are not reliant on the revenue of their franchises. It’s merely a long term investment in which no owner I’m aware of in NFL history has ever had a decrease in the value of their franchise.Like them or not, it's the owners who invest millions/billions into their respective franchise, and like all businesses, the owner take all the risk. If the business goes under, their wealth goes under too.
Right. And why Cowboy fans are probably either the most addicting fans in the league or the dumbest.Yep, he has received validation from the fans by being the most profitable team in the league and most valuable franchise.
All of our complaining about the 25 years is a little ridiculous since no one is making us stay fans of the team. We choose this team. And he comes along with it.
Well, we represent a more elitist attitude towards sports. We realize that these owners on the most part don’t rely on the revenue from their franchises. That it’s more of a personal passion and reflection of their egos .It’s really cool how you and your thousands of Cowboys fans friends have come to this conclusion.
Absolutely . If Jethro was dependent solely on the local diehards and even local casual fans the Cowboys wouldn’t be leading the league in revenue with the downturn of success on the field.Ya trust me I’m very much numb and have accepted the situation for what it is.
The saddest part of it all though is that Jerry is so good at the non-football side of business that I don’t think he even needs the diehard fans anymore even if they were to stop supporting. Jerry World will always be packed because of the spectacle of it, and cowboys merch will always sell to casual fans that see the star. As evidence of the past 2 decades, the W’s really only matter to what amounts to a very small % of the population- And Jerry aint 1 of us.
No, I don’t have problem with the elites in our society. I don’t consider the players as elites though. A lot of them are broke within a year or two of being out of the league. They don’t know how to keep their money which is a characteristic of all elites. Most players don’t understand the value of money and they spend it faster than they can make it.This attitude with “ common working people” appears to be a common thread with fans that take issue with players making millions. I suppose they take issue with any elite in society.
This is a great point. The younger fans have a totally different mentality than the older fans that was witness to the class, professionalism , high expectations ,excellence and winning that the Landry years produced. The experience of being a fan through those years is one reason why there is so many disagreements about the team between older and younger fans. After seeing the Landry teams, it is hard to stomach the excuses and lower expectations that many of the younger fans have for the current versions of Cowboy teams. These younger fans don’t know how it feels for the Cowboys to be legit Super Bowl contenders every year for two decades. Its a BS premise. Only us older cowboy fans who remember 20 straight years of winning records and 5 super bowl rings have such expectations. Younger fans just want their pet cat to stay on the team.
You’re relating elitist to intelligence which isn’t necessarily true. No, I don’t have problem with the elites in our society. I don’t consider the players as elites though. This is probably the most real post Ive ever seen you post Risen, and I like you... and you have already hit the 100k likes...lolI generally side with ownership in sports because they care more about the franchise. Players care about themselves. They come and go and just want as much as they can get while they're here. Whether that's with your team or another.
There's a bit more of a connection with an owner as you're in this for the long haul with them. I don't feel that with players. I have a genuine dislike for the players of today. It's very rare for me to be a fan of one.
Yep and we must also acknowledge that we have a young generation of fans now who weren’t even around for the Jimmy era and the 90’s success. This is a great point. The younger fans have a totally different mentality than the older fans that was witness to the class, professionalism , high expectations ,excellence and winning that the Landry years produced. The experience of being a fan through those years is one reason why there is so many disagreements about the team between older and younger fans. Rome and the mob demand Gladiators,, they are payed well to risk much less in todays game.. the real gladiators had no protection other than a sword and shield. It’s a common sentiment in professional sports from mostly an uneducated social biased segment of our fan base.
And they and others see players as spoiled and greedy as these fans would play for much less if they had the opportunity. They see these Neanderthal owners as attempting to run the ranch with these greedy players preventing from more success.
These fans fail to realize it’s more than just a sports league. It’s an entertainment league. These same fans don’t have an issue with a Rapper or Actor making tens or hundreds of millions for a film of tour.
Because most likely they see sports as an event they could do while other entertainment skills they aren’t able to perform . But they must realize the players are the product . Without them it’s be second rate films and dive bar shows much like the Replacement players.
Remember the Billionaires wouldn’t pay Millions if the money wasn’t there to spend. There was a time when it wasn’t . And not that long ago when I’d never have played professional sports for what they were paying .
My uncle refused to play for Lombardi and the Packers cause it wasn’t enough to move his family to Green Bay. The fans have created this billion dollar business. Paying the help comes with it. And the owners have agreed .
If you want it to return to its roots. Turn the TV off.
On the contrary . While he’s an entertaining contributor his post isn’t to be taken serious. All fans connect to the players. Maybe not all the players but none the less the players. This is probably the most real post Ive ever seen you post Risen, and I like you... and you have already hit the 100k likes...lol
Is the real Risen coming forth to share what he really thinks... I await eagerly and with loyal friendship,, dont be shy anymore,, you have friends here.
And if you continue to demand then you’ll be the cause of its demise as current society will not tolerate such.Rome and the mob demand Gladiators,, they are payed well to risk much less in todays game.. the real gladiators had no protection other than a sword and shield.
You should speak for yourself and leave the rest of us out of your preconceived assumptions. On the contrary . While he’s an entertaining contributor his post isn’t to be taken serious. All fans connect to the players. Maybe not all the players but none the less the players.
Most fans across the league probably couldn’t even name but a handful of owners in the league at best.
Of course. The power of the anonymous fan behind a keyboard on the Internet who we’d otherwise never hear from. How threatening to our thoughts. HaYou should speak for yourself and leave the rest of us out of your preconceived assumptions.
Virtually no risk today as an NFL owner no matter how poorly you run the team unless games aren't being played. A lot of you keep equating the league to your common small business and it just isn't true. Also, how many of the owners are self made?Like them or not, it's the owners who invest millions/billions into their respective franchise, and like all businesses, the owner take all the risk. If the business goes under, their wealth goes under too.
