I am happy. it starts with the QB and the QB market is about to just totally blow up where Dak's deal will look average in a couple of years.

Well, at least there will be no more Dak discussions -- other than his actual performance on the field -- yeah, right.

Look, I am no NFL contract expert, but... it sure seems with the way Dak's cap hit is back-loaded, the table is set to unload Jaylon, Zeke and DLaw's contracts in a couple of years.

if this turns out to be a smart contract, it won't be because of the TV deal IMO. By the time that TV deal starts effecting salaries in the NFL, this deal could very easily be done. The team is now effectively pinned into another reup on Dak. That deal is coming and that's the deal that's going to really hurt because now France and Dak are going to stick it to the Cowboys big time, just like the Romo deal. So, there are essentially two options here. Walk away and eat 47 mil in 2024 or start working on a renegotiation in 2023. The truth is that before any real ramifications or benefits of any increased cap will come into play, this deal is probably done. It will likely be a new, even more expensive deal that we are basically locked into.

pay attention to how this deal was structured. Short, painful at the end and with a no trade and a no tag clause. Watch and see what happens here. It's going to be really ugly IMO.

Nobody is going to like this but the team would be wise to still consider taking a young QB early. JMO.

Dak Prescott signed a six-year, $164 million deal. 2. Years five and six on the contract are voidable to help the Cowboys manage their salary cap in the future. So, in conclusion, it's a four-year deal.17 hours ago

I wonder if this helps to spread out the year 4 cap hit? Wasn't that the intent of voidable years?

Yes at this point we had no other choice. I knew Dak was our only hope back 2-3 years ago. This is the same thing with Romo. Don't talk smack about paying a qb if you have no one else behind that can play.

While I'm happy that Dak is staying, I don't think he deserved the amount he got.

and what you are you? a message board poster with a view, get over yourself acting as if your view is the only one and we should all bow to you and wait on your opinion? You don't have to pull for the Oil man football team, that is your choice
I like his opinions, I like his opinions more than yours.

Split. Super happy to have Dak. Thought contract was too much. But here we are and I keep chugging along hoping it works out. Now it’s draft prep time!!

No Tag? ***? No Trade? OMFG? So in two years when it becomes obvious that he is NOT the hero that some think he is what? Eat the rest of his contract and start over? Because I am sure that is what is going to happen. As I have continually said. I don't hate the man. I just don't like him as a QB. His accuracy is horrible. His ability to get the ball in the endzone once the team is in the red zone is my issue. I don't doubt his leadership, I don't doubt his heart. It's his ability to put the ball in the right spot a majority of the time.

No problem. I'm at a loss of words at the type of fan you are claiming to be...you actually root for losses....just wow.

I’d explain it to you again but what’s the point? You got your golden calf. Now let’s see if he can actually deliver anything outside of an 8-8 season. Something tells me that I’ll be still laughing at Jerry’s misery after 4 years.

This team will not be sniffing a playoff appearance in several years, so sorry for the young fans trying to follow this team.
This is really an unrealistic point of view.

Can you explain this to me? I thought it would be eating $26 mil in 2024.

He has $126 guaranteed. Cap spends are $22, $33, & $44 through 2023 (total $100MM), thus $26MM owed in 2024.

Seems to jive with what Sportrac says too:

Potential Out: 2024, 3 yr, $126,000,000; $26,400,000 dead cap

I'm guessing it's the difference between dead cap and cap hit in a specific year?
