I am happy this part is over and we won't be reading "I told ya, shouldn't have let Dak walk" about 500 times a day.

I am sad that we will be reading "I told ya, should have drafted (whichever QB is best out of this crop)" about 200 times a day.

Yes, I am happy.

We have a viable QB locked-up & we have cap room to build around him (most peoples objection).

Let fix the defense now and complete for a title.

The contract will be a smart one considering the new TV deal that will be coming around in the near future. Jerry may not be a great GM, but he’s no dummy when it comes to business and dollars.

if this turns out to be a smart contract, it won't be because of the TV deal IMO. By the time that TV deal starts effecting salaries in the NFL, this deal could very easily be done. The team is now effectively pinned into another reup on Dak. That deal is coming and that's the deal that's going to really hurt because now France and Dak are going to stick it to the Cowboys big time, just like the Romo deal. So, there are essentially two options here. Walk away and eat 47 mil in 2024 or start working on a renegotiation in 2023. The truth is that before any real ramifications or benefits of any increased cap will come into play, this deal is probably done. It will likely be a new, even more expensive deal that we are basically locked into.

pay attention to how this deal was structured. Short, painful at the end and with a no trade and a no tag clause. Watch and see what happens here. It's going to be really ugly IMO.

Nobody is going to like this but the team would be wise to still consider taking a young QB early. JMO.

Trevor Lawrence was never really in the discussion as a pick for us. So Zack Wilson, Kyle Trask and Davis Mills will be the three QB's I throw out there in the years to come.

Look at the number of posts this place had for the Dez catch non-catch play against Green Bay. Hell turn on ESPN and tell me how much time those guys spend talking about team wins as opposed to what coach is on the hot seat and which team is a hot mess? Teams lose people talk about what could have been done differently, they shred the coach, OC, DC, players etc. That might not fit into your definition of a real fan. But your mistake is thinking that anyone here gives a rats *** about your feelings on the matter.
I never said anyone gave a "rats ***" about my feelings or what a real fan is. You on the other hand are no fan. You admitted as much so let's don't try and lump all of you guys in together. You admitted you root for misery because you get enjoyment when the Cowboys lose. You have a sickness.

I am happy he is signed and we can at the very least get over that drama.
Not as happy with the amount. However I don't know if I have every felt like the team got a great deal on one of the big FAs from other teams or from our own. It's not as common to find a deal you just love for a player anymore.

For some that hate or really dislike Dak...sucks for them and I don't say that with malice or sarcasm.
For those that love or really like Dak...I am sure they are sporting a Cheshire cat grin.

For all of us in the middle...Like part of it, dislike part of it. Life goes on.

In other words...Meh

The best part of it, IMO, is what I said to start with...at least we can get over the drama of waiting.

I just wish Dak had the physical capability to play up to that contract but now we got a QB making Mahomes money that needs the 85 Bears defense and 90's Cowboys offense to win anything with.

Imagine applauding this move. You truly are a super fan.
$22M cap hit in 2021, potentially just an $18M cap hit in 2022.

Find a new hobby, Football Dunce.

Can you explain this to me? I thought it would be eating $26 mil in 2024.

He has $126 guaranteed. Cap spends are $22, $33, & $44 through 2023 (total $100MM), thus $26MM owed in 2024.

Seems to jive with what Sportrac says too:

Potential Out: 2024, 3 yr, $126,000,000; $26,400,000 dead cap

NOT for $40M, at no point in the last 5 years has Dak played at a top 5 level. A QB that needs an all-world roster to be serviceable but this is just the Cowboys front office doing the same thing they did with Zeke and Jaylon.

I guess the biggest hang up for most folks is they are basing this contract on the past. This contract is into the future where this contract won't look as bad in a year or two.

SAY THEIR NAMES

Flozell Adams
Greg Ellis
Dexter Coakley
Dat Nguyen
Roy Williams
Andre Gurode
Bradie James
Terrence Newman
Jay Ratliff
Marion Barber
Jason Hatcher
Anthony Spencer
Doug Free
Orlando Scandrick
Dez Bryant
Sean Lee
DeMarcus Ware
Jason Witten
Tony Romo
Travis Frederick

We've had nice players on both sides of the ball. But something was always missing. Mike McCarthy (with previous coaching experience) did such a horrible job last year that some begin to miss Garrett. I really don't trust MM or Jerry to figure out that missing ingredient.

This needs a "meh" option. Dak's a good QB that we overpaid for, which is what I figured would happen with the stupid contracts that are out there for other QB's so...meh.

Repeating the same thing over and over expecting a different result....does that qualify as Insanity?

Albert Einstein has entered this chat!

Right. Expecting an offense to carry a defense that has been 11 years running among the worst at takeaways, 3 and outs, scoring, passes defended, INTs, non-offense TDs, return yardage, ST scores, and recently rush defense is completely and utterly insane. In the last six seasons the Chiefs have 30 defensive and special teams returns for TDs. We have like six or seven. It’s totally bonkers!
