DT Tyson Alualu rated as one of the top interior defensive linemen last season even at his current age of 34

CB Shaquill Griffin a near top rated CB in the free agent class

S Rayshawn Jenkins a quality safety who looks to be the new SS starter

WR Phillip Dorsett speedy WR who adds to the young WR corp

RB Carlos Hyde adds depth behind starter Robinson

CB Sidney Jones (re-signing) quality young CB when healthy

DE Dawuane Smoot (re-signing) quality consistent DE

CB Tre Herndon (re-signing) quality CB in the nickel package

DT Roy Robertson-Harris decent d-line depth signing

DE Jihad Ward defensive line depth signing

TE Chris Manhertz a top rated blocking TE

KR Jamal Agnew a top rated return specialist

So they are adding pieces to their rebuild and none were with Dallas last season.
Jihad Ward, I remember when he was in Dallas, he was a JAG and now he is a Jag

While I agree the team defense needs major help, you can't forget that the offensive line saw 3 primary starters (Smith, Collins, Martin) miss some, most, or all of the 2020 season and the reserves did not show themselves to be of sound quality. While we can hope those 3 come back fully healthy, Dak is coming off a major ankle injury and was signed to a lucrative deal so Dallas needs to make sure they have adequate protection for him.

you're not wrong to have some trepidation about that side of the ball in regards to last year but I consider it an anomaly. I would not be upset if Slater was taken at 10. I also think our scrubs got better last year as we went on so I felt better about the line in week 17 than I did in week 5.I think that well be better with the big uglies this year. I have no concerns about Daks ankle all signs from medical personnel are this is not an issue

But that’s dismissing the hit/miss rate in 1st round down. Starters only comprise 30%. So that is fudging the numbers for one position to make a point that isn’t that different. This is 2015 ..and honestly there aren’t many articles out there..but I’m assuming the percentage hasn’t changed much

https://www.forbes.com/sites/prishe...-how-contingent-is-success-to-draft-position/

- Nearly 30% of all starters were 1st round draft picks when drafted into the league;

- Roughly 30% were taken in either the 2nd or 3rd round;

- Roughly 26% were taken in either rounds 4 through 7;

- Undrafted players (14%) were the 3rd most likely group to comprise 2014’s starters…only behind 1st round (30%) and 2nd round (18%) picks.
I don't really get your point, or why it's relevant to mine.

My point is that, if only 20% of second-round CBs turn into starters, you can't universally expect a second-round CB to be a starter.

CB needs to be filled by FA - don't depend on rookie CB's making a difference this year.

I'd like to do both. Sign a veteran bridge player and draft one to take over the position in a year or two at most. If we could somehow sign a solid veteran, we could slide coverages to help the still-developing Diggs on the other side. But that's likely a pipe dream.

While I realize that we weren’t going to go into FA like NE has, I can guarantee you one thing. NE got a whole lot better and they were 8-8 and that’s with Cam missing a few games with Covid. That defense will be amazing as usual with the opt outs back and new toys.

While I personally think NE overspent on several free agents, you can't argue with adding guys like:

TE Hunter Henry 2020 stats 60 Catches 613 Yards 10.2 YPC 4 TD's

TE Jonnu Smith 2020 stats 41 Catches 448 Yards 10.9 YPC 8 TD's

WR Kendrick Bourne 2020 stats 49 Catches 667 Yards 13.6 YPC 2 TD's

WR Nelson Agholor 2020 stats 48 Catches 896 Yards 18.7 YPC 8 TD's

Will these guys repeat their 2020 stats with Cam Newton throwing to them? Doubtful but NE, while probably overpaying, is making moves to try and improve an obvious weakness with their passing game.

I agree Diggs showed himself to have had a quality rookie season before he got hurt and hopefully he can continue to develop. As for Griffin, reports said the Seahawks wanted to re-sign him and the Browns wanted to sign him, both playoff teams.
Yet, he ended up with the Jaguars...now would you rather be a Jaguar or a Brown or Seahawk? Its clear they all wanted him...I'm sure every team in the league wanted him. But when you start talking about the money how many REALLY wanted him?

Initially I liked the two tight ends they picked up but man.....this seems to have fail all over it. But one thing is for sure and that's they are better than what they had last year.

Well if it was just about the money then he should have come to Dallas as that is what JJ is all about. As for Griffin, perhaps he saw the writing on the wall with talk of Wilson wanting to be traded out of SEA and as for the Browns, perhaps he simply did not want to play in a cold outdoor environment. I am not saying JAX will win the Super Bowl this season but clearly they are making moves to improve obvious areas of weakness.

I just read that most of the contracts they can get out of after two years. Bill had a plan obviously and that team will look a lot different.
