Hopefully he signs sonwe can eventually grab Hooker
Hooker is a no-go. He likely has to retire because of all the injuries. If FO wanted him, they would have him.

Agreed. He didn’t seem to sure he was healthy enough to start the seasonHooker is a no-go. He likely has to retire because of all the injuries. If FO wanted him, they would have him.
You’re like a puppet.
I am pretty sure this is what the Jones tell themselves and it rarely turns out to be the case. The old adage typically holds for the Cowboys in FA, "You get what you pay for."

I find this one especially cute....Except it's true when it comes to FA. They rarely upgrade a position in FA. It's more about getting bodies and hoping they get lucky.
In what world would a fan of a team look at what the Cowboys struggled with last year (S play and DT play) and come away thinking, you know what, the Cowboys saw a real problem and they really tried to address at least one in the offseason with a good, high level, quality player? They did what they always do............ throw a few cheap contracts at players and cross their fingers assume the draft will fix their problem. That's just a fact at this point.
And it typically fails when you look at DT and S. I don't know who they lean on for league level scouting but whoever does it, they aren't very good at their jobs because even when they spend a bit more than bargain level cash like with Griffen, it never seems to work out. We've gotten very little help in FA over the last 6-7.
Hooker likely has to retire, where does that come from? If it is just your speculation how does it make it likely?
Not sure about that, I don't think Philly got what they paid for when they overpaid Demarco Murray, Ravens sure as hell did not get what they paid for when they signed Earl Thomas in 2019 only to release him in 2020. There are lot of FA high dollar deals that fail.
Did you look at his last 3 year injury history? Do your homework then come back.
I mean sure, there are failures in spending a lot too. Olivier Vernon was a mistake too. So was AJ Bouye. But the reality is you are more likely to fill a clear need if you sign a good mid level or high level player than picking up scraps. The odds are very, very, very good if you sign slop players, what you are going to get is slop play.
I have no issue with mid tier players as FA and use draft to build in my view is not a mistake. I don't consider some of these guys slop and I think they could help but the major help should and I think will come from the draft where you can get quality talent on a rookie contract as opposed to over spending in FA
How's that model worked for us? How has the whole "spend little in FA on depth and use the draft to fill immediate holes" worked out for us?
You guys keep citing this strategy as if it's been wildly successful for us. You can keep saying that building through the draft and basically doing nothing but bargain bin shopping is not a mistake but the actual results would call into question that conclusion.
Same old stuff. We act like we are taking action but stop short mailing meaningful offers.
Your entitled to you view, Cowboys have paid in FA Cooper, Dak, DLaw, Zeke, OL players we have. There have been many times people where whined and cried because Jerry did not spend a boat load on guys like Earl Thomas which only proved that sometimes the best deals are the ones that did not happen. FA across the NFL tends to be over paying for past accomplishment not what a player will do for you tomorrow, then of course we get to hear the excuse that it takes a guy time before he can gel with his new team.
I certainly am aware of his injury history, what I don't get is that if healthy in the next few months from his current injury, how that history makes it likely that he has to retire now.
Hooker will be playing in the league next year.
So, we have to sign every player that visits? We like our guys
Homework or not. I highly doubt you know what the guy is going to do. You arent a doctor nor an NFL GM. Nor the guy himself. Grow up. And then come back. The poster asked you a simple question. You dont have to be so condescending.Did you look at his last 3 year injury history? Do your homework then come back.
Not yet at this stage. Likely the Cowboys doctors said the risk of hiring him was prohibitive at this time. If Cowboys don't offer, likely most other teams won't either.
He seems like another Sean Lee to me.
So, we have to sign every player that visits?
Signing your own is a really weak justification. Signing Cooper long term, while nice, just keeps the status quo. The team doesn't get "better" by signing Cooper or Dak. They stay at their baseline.
It's a simple question. What has bargain shopping in FA and trying to fill all our holes through the draft won for us?
PS - To be clear, I am not advocating spending like a drunken fool in FA. But frankly, if we sign Kazee or Hooker, we likely spend around 8-9MM this year on back up S types. I'd have rather pooled that and spent it on a legitimate FS like John Johnson, who has a pretty reasonable contract for a really good player.
