yes! use better darts instead of trading for gimpy ones but getting extra tosses.I like McClay’s tendency to draft big school players. No more high risk picks that never panned out.

WE would complete fools if we trade up for a fricking CB.
Expecting a 2nd round CB to be a #1 CB is buying a lottery ticket. Dont get me wrong, there are some pretty good 2nd round CB's in this draft. But if Im asked to lay down my money on if any specific one is going to be a quality CB, I'm putting it on "no"
Honestly I think they should move some picks this year for earlier picks next year. Im starting to think this is a great draft to find guys like Tyrone Crawford and Barry ChurchTBH, this is not the kind of draft in terms of overall depth of talent where you want to trade down and get a boatload of extra picks. Once you get beyond the second round, this draft has holes in it. If anything, the Cowboys should move up in the second/third and get out of the later part of the draft.
All accurate. One of the bright spots on defense last year was a sixth round pick. We had seventh round pick start at QB. Sure the odds go down later in the draft but we've had busts on early picks too.
Making a trade either way is never my first choice. Trading up or down is a gamble. Hitting on the Frederick pick covers up for the fact that that trade netted us JJ Wilcox. There is the old story of passing on Tony Brackens to trade down, to end up with Kavita Pittman and Clay Shiver. At least in 2004, we got an FRP for passing on Jackson. But Jackson >Jones and Spears. Its really a gamble either way. You really have to make a measured decision, like in 2010 with Bryant and then Lee. That's what we failed to do with ClaiborneNot just that. I think surtain ceiling is high. He has everything. To say those (second round) guys are not much worse than he is, is absolutely wrong.
There is 100% a clear delineation after the top 2.Not just that. I think surtain ceiling is high. He has everything. To say those (second round) guys are not much worse than he is, is absolutely wrong.
Too many are playing the wrong "what if" game. It's not what if they make the wrong move, it's what if they don't get the right player and he could very well be the best D player in this draft. There is something to be said about getting your guy too. What happens if Surtain winds being an All Pro, and that second round guy ends up being Chido Awuzie? Or you settle for Horn at 10, and Surtain ends up having the much better career and that 3rd round pick you saved ends up somewhere else after his rookie deal.

All accurate.
And the 7th round pick was arguably the worst QB to take center last year in the NFL.
The former 6th round safety was a nice find from the previous draft but made his mark on the team in the NFL with the worst overall safety play in 2020.
He will now have to battle to retain a starting job in year 3.
The NFL Draft value is what it is for a reason.
A 7th round pick is worth 1/80th of a high R4 pick.
You are drafting guys at that point which are not graded out as NFL players and then developing them.
But to develop them you either have to waste a roster soot for a year or play the waiver game hoping to nurse them along.
It's just not managable in high numbers.
I'm much more intrigued by getting a D so at some point we might be able to get to a super bowl. Pitts doesn't improve our team all that much.Too many are playing the wrong "what if" game. It's not what if they make the wrong move, it's what if they don't get the right player and he could very well be the best D player in this draft.
I've seen the "missed Moss theory" used as a reason to move up to take Pitts but why not the "missed Ramsey theory" to make sure they get Surtain?
Since Booger has owned the team, he's never had one part of the team as hammered and maligned as this defense with many calling it one of the worst in NFL history. Think he's going to get cute in the 1st round? Having said that, he could very well go up and get Pitts thinking that's the way to put the other offense on it's heels, by putting the unstoppable offense on the field. The Don Coryell Theory and while that didn't get a ring, that was the original Greatest Show on Turf.
Anyone here not intrigued by Pitts at TE and in the slot with those 3 WR's and a QB that was on a record setting pace until he got injured just isn't into offense. He gets Pitts, that offense immediately gets the nickname Greatest Show on Turf II and nothing ole PT Booger would like better.
Ehh the QB was just in over his head. He was constantly fumbling and looked ill-prepared to play.I don't think the QB could have been placed in a worse situation, Dalton had the same sort of trouble in his first game. And Wilson sure looked like a playmaker to me.
Presumably you don't keep all of the picks. You bring them him and see how they compete and make the cuts. If we have two sixth round picks and one seventh this year and one of them makes the 53 and one makes the practice squad that's a win. Teams have a depth chart for a reason. If you have one sixth or seventh round pick because you traded the other two picks to move up a little and he doesn't make the team you have nothing. I wouldn't mind them moving up with their third round comp pick to take a play but it would be fool hard to trade away all of the later picks.
I dont like him. He acts like a draft expert yet he's no different than you and I.Cavanaugh is such a granny
They pretty much already have four starters from last years draftLast years draft looks like it at least netted two starters. The three before for the most part not good (2017 brutal) and I will give partial credit for Cooper. My point is I will be happy by simply not blowing it. When Jerry starts making trades, he makes me nervous.
What does Booger care more about? The team or the show?I'm much more intrigued by getting a D so at some point we might be able to get to a super bowl. Pitts doesn't improve our team all that much.
I think he'll make the team he threw for 180 yard with no picks behind a patchwork offensive line going up against the front seven of the Eagles which was the strength of their defense. As you said seventh round picks take some time to develop. Teams might go for it since it's later in the draft but strictly speaking if they followed the chart our last three picks would move us up to round 6 pick 3. Thinking more about it, I agree with your point, if they could get more picks in the second to middle of the third round it would be a great way to add potential starters to the team.Ehh the QB was just in over his head. He was constantly fumbling and looked ill-prepared to play.
A far, far cry from R4 Dak as a rookie.
DiNucci may be fine in time but he was really, really bad.
I'm not sure he makes the roster this year given what we saw.
Wilson is a playmaker as he was at TAMU but at TAMU he got beaten a lot with poor discipline.
Dallas spent a year plus training him up and now have hired his collegiate coach.
He's a solid box safety and looks like a great value.
I am not suggesting just giving away picks but I'd gladly trade a 5, 6 and a 7 for a low R4.
I am getting the same type darts in UDFA you find in R7.
Whereas in R4 I think I'll have guys on my board who I think are actual NFL players.
