Listening to the Day 3 press conference Stephen just mentioned the team envisions starting Israel Mukuama out at safety. They believe he has the size (mentioned weight) and balls skills to play in that role.

Outside of Parsons, Mukuama may be my favorite pick on defense this draft class. That said, I'm not sure he has the sideline-to-sideline speed to play single high safety. I think he has a role in certain coverage units playing press man or in the red zone. We'll see. He's intriguing.

When you watch his cutups you see his lengthy clearly playing a role in creating turnovers. Too tired now, but will cutup some gifs later.

It’ll be an interesting thing to watch. It could hit or miss, for sure. If he does work out though, it’d be a pretty big hit I think.

Certainly worth a shot at that point.

Makes sense coverage wise. I don't think he is an NFL CB. Needs to tackled better though

Add to that, the minute we drafted one CB meant Robinson was probably off the roster. Drafting 3 means someone is probably a S lol

I'm not too worried about the "sideline-to-sideline" speed as much as his ability to "read-and-react quickly" in the moment.

I haven't watched too much on any prospect really, but I have seen plenty of "fast" safeties that were never in position because they didn't diagnose what was happening in front of them quick enough.

If Mukuama can handle the mental side of things quickly enough, he should have more than enough athleticism to man the position.

It will be interesting to see if IM can develop into a solid safety after swapping between CB/S throughout his career in college.
