I’m judging them as prospects..

How their careers go from here is anyone’s guess because there is a million different factors but when ranking them as prospects I had Wilson #2 and Fields #4.

The NFL agreed with me and instead of questioning me you should take my words as a learning opportunity.

The same NFL that thought that Mitch Trubisky was better than Deshaun Watson -- and Josh Rosen better than Lamar Jackson?

Hindsight is 20/20 but since Fields was available at 10 does it make overpaying Dak look worse? They could have given Dak the franchise tag and maybe trade him after drafting Fields.

Here's the thing. We don't know that Dak would have been franchise tagged again. Fields may not have reached pick 10 had Dak not been on the team. As far as over paying Dak, that's Jerry's issue. As a fan I'm concerned with his cap hit. And it shouldn't be a problem for the next two years. Depending on how much the cap goes up, maybe never a problem.

But yeah, maybe Jerry is kicking himself in hindsight.

You just listed a lot of QBs who never won a Super Bowl or were on rookie contracts when they went.

A lot of them were first round picks as well.

Nice try though.

You act like making the Super Bowl is not a valid accomplishment especially since we only have a sample size of 7-8 Super Bowls since the rookie wage scale really went into effect. That is ALL we have. Everything else is tainted by the lack of a rookie wage scale when looking at a % of cap. So if you want a real sample size you have to count making the Super Bowl. For example, should Matt Ryan lose points because his coach forgot how to run the ball? Should Joe Flacco lose points because, while on that contract, his WR quite literally forgot to keep running his route or they beat the Patriots, the eventual SB champs in 2014, and likely win another one.

Jimmy G making it to a SB in his only healthy year of starting shows how pointless paying a QB is regarding your chances to win a SB. The true answer to making the SB is very easy: get high picks and hit on them such that you have 3 successful drafts in a row and then you have a window with which to compete (it being about a 4 year window). Drafting is the key. You cannot just hit singles and be a big-time team. You need to hit home runs. You need home runs like Tyreke Hill in the 5th. You need to not only find simple starters but all pros as well. You need to find Nick Bosa's or Josh Allens or Lamar Jacksons or Mahomes (I could go with non QBs for awhile if you get hung up on that but you get my point). Drafting wins championships and the Cowboys have not shown a true homerun in 5 years, and honestly not enough singles and doubles, which leads to the team being carried by aging talent from 5-8 years ago in the draft.

Fields took the Buckeyes to the cusp of a national championship. Dak and his Mississippi State team went 4-4 in the SEC during his senior year.
Fields will win many NFL playoff games, surpassing Dak's career 1 playoff win.

dak took a Mississippi state team that had never been ranked that highly EVER to the #1 seed in the nation. You’re exposing how little you know about football

It wasn't the league that 'thought' - then acted on those moves....it was the Chicago Bears and Arizona Cardinals - singular teams.

Dak was a late 4th round draft pick.
Fields was projected to go 4th overall.
heh.
We shall see who of those two has a higher ceiling.
Some people hate when you correct them or they are wrong. Fact is you are right Dak put Mississippi State on the map.

Yes, ruffian, Dak put Mississippi State on the map. Such a hotspot for regional football and truck pulls.

Tim Tebow won 2 National championships.
How did he do in the NFL again?

Unfortunate for Tebow.
But Dak is not elite in the NFL by any stretch. He'll be middling for the Cowboys. Just as he was in Mississippi State, the cradle of greatness.

And Fields could be out of the NFL in 2 years. What he did in college means nothing compare to what Dak has done in the NFL already.

You can't reason with these guys. For whatever reason they love Dak and think he is the answer.

Instead of arguing over the color of the sky let's just look at it like this.

Scenario:
If the cowboys needed a QB coming off last season. Dak coming off season ending injury and played with a different team say the broncos. Whom has dragged him a long a few years on franchise tag and ruined the relationship. He wants out but just had again, same gruesome injury he had last year. Same stats, same record.

Would the Cowboys be considered crazy for paying him the same deal instead of waiting for the draft? Would it be considered over paying? Would the fans be in an uproar?

I believe yes to all of the above. We fell for the sunk cost fallacy plus Jerry values stars for their jersey sales more than their ability.

No matter what the Dak lovers will say, we overpaid for a non-elite level QB coming off a serious injury.
