We have advanced past the first round in the playoffs three times in 25 years so why do new draft picks act so excited to go to a losing franchise with 25 years of playoff irrelevancy? It’s like being drafted by the Lions or Bengals except we have five super bowl wins a quarter of a century ago.

Cowboys still make money, still play on national TV often, and if the Jones boys like you they will pay you.

Not likely to win a trophy these days, but still better (by far) than being a Lion or a Bengal.

If I got drafted by the Dallas Cowboys it would be the happiest day of my life. Because I know that even if we never make the playoffs, as long as I’m at least marginal at my position I’m probably going to have a 100m$ contract waiting for me down the line

never happened. you should post less

You two and everyone else are confusing terms. What he actually means is flagship franchise, i.e., best at winning. What you've described is marquee, or featured, headliner, etc.
So I'm right. Thanks

Okay, so to that I ask how has NE, GB, DEN, PITT, STL, SEA, NYG, and KC been able to succeed under the same constraints of the NFL salary cap yet Dallas has not in 25 years?
Because Goodell hates us and Garrett sucks!

Tom Brady, Rodgers, Manning, Roth, Wilson, and Mahomes. You thin there might be a correlation to why teams pay these QBs Dak-like big bucks? :)

STL? Rams?
NYG? Succeed? I think Eli has a horrible overall win-loss record. They got lucky and won at least one SB.

Yet when the Cowboys are on the road say in Washington we see a lot of Cowboy fans there, we went to LA there was almost as many Cowboy fans as Ram fans. I don't see Detroit fans in abundance on the road. I get it we all want to see this team winning football once again, but does not change the fact that this franchise has a very big fan base and it draws the attention of the networks more so than many teams around the NFL. This year alone Dallas has 6 nationally televised games, how many do the Lions have? As for young players drafted excited about being drafted by the Cowboys as this tread started of why they would want to be here? easy National Exposer
Of course they're popular because of ancient history. But their performance is that of the Lions.

Unwarranted attention does not make them relevant.

That’s what Jerry tells them.

Well it is clearly a year to be excited about the upcoming season. This team has a shot of being good and the results of past seasons have nothing to do with what is coming up this year. The bottom line is this team has a good chance and if you are a fan you should enjoy it and be excited.

Because of viewership and $$$. Jones had a built in fanbase that exceeded everyone else when he bought the team, blew it through the roof with Jimmy Johnson, and he's managed to at least maintain it, even in the most futile stretches in franchise history.

Amazing job he's done as a marketer/con artist gm. The Tom Landry/Tex Schramm Cowboys went to 12 NFC/NFL championships over the course of 17 years. 12 in 17 years. Jones hasn't even guided the team to one nfcc in 26 years. The failure and lack of change is comical. Just incredible that he keeps losing and mediocre teams at the top of the ratings. Congrats, I guess.

You have to give him credit for the 13 and 3 seasons as well as the mediocre seasons.

Yeah that really screams marquee franchise doesn’t it?
Art, unfortunately despite the lack of success this era the Cowboys are still what I’d describe as a marquee franchise.

Maybe not a marquee team, but Jethro has managed to keep this franchise relevant while running football operations into the ground.

The Cowboys started in 1960. Marquee teams like the Cowboys, Lakers and Yankees transcend any specific time interval or era. I know that is the rule because I just made it up.
Well , there is something to it. The Cowboys name much like the Lakers or Yankees does hold some value whether or not they are currently having success.

I totally agree unless you are referring to the last 25 years.
Yea, it’s suked on the most part but the previous 35 years still carries some weight.

Id hoped the last 25 years would have sunk our Idiot football owner but it hasn’t .

Because we are! It doesn’t matter if we win lose or draw we will always be the marquee team and America’s team. We earned it, and no one can take it away! We’re still the most winningest team in the NFL period even though we have not won anything in 25yrs
Yep… but in time at this pace of last 25 years that will eventually change. 25 years hasn’t been long enough. Maybe 40-50 years will be?

color me skeptical after the past 25 years.
For me being a Baylor fan for the last 60 years as well has prepared me for the mentality needed for this down era in Cowboys history.

It takes a different mindset when you expect to lose and hope to win. Dormant teams create an apathetic fan base.
