I like him because he
  • is a good, natural leader,
  • seems to be a good guy off the field
  • works hard to improve his game…so not passive

No need for elaboration if you don't want, but I'd like to see if you can name one play or moment that swayed you to like or dislike Dak as a player.
My moment was when he was on the bench and he threw his Gatorade cup to the trashcan and missed. He stood up, picked it up and put it in the trashcan. That was the moment that I started rooting hard for him.

Like: Pretty much everything. Leadership is #1 for me
Dont: 40 million per year salary.............. could be better at stepping up in the pocket and taking off if need be

I don't dislike somebody I don't even know. I can separate the player from the person.

By all accounts he is a very good person, so I have no reason to dislike him.

I don't even dislike him as a player (I have him ranked 11th). I dislike the amount of praise he gets for the little amount that he has done so far. I've watched Cowboys fans tear QBs new ones (Romo), but yet act like Dak is above criticism. I see people on here willing to throw any player under the bus from Romo to Aikman if they think it can give Dak a little clout.

At the end of the day I hope Dak proves me wrong. If Dak is proving me wrong then that will mean the Cowboys are doing well and that's all that matters to me. I would be elated if Dak retires as the greatest Cowboy ever or even the greatest Cowboys QB ever. If he does that then that means we got some rings along the way. I'd like for him to lead us to something, anything, first before we put him in the Ring of Honor, that's all.

@Ranching No one is going to answer this truthfully....the people that dislike him...the people who dislike him will just say "I have nothing against Dak....I just think he's a bus driver/average/(fill in the blank)".

I answered it truthfully.

As far as the Dak hating trolls, who cares? They have already been proven wrong.

Just listen to him talk. He is a born leader, a motivator, and a real action hero. The Gatorade cup thing just shows the integrity that is ingrained in him. He's a solid good guy as well. I wouldn't be surprised if he served as a senator or governor in his time after football. Getting injured in the line of duty last season only strengthens the affection fans have for him, He's now the sports world equivalent of a war hero. He has a great story that will make a great movie someday.
Indeed,, Dak and Byron would make great senators...

He moment Romo went down with his back injury. Dak came in and moved the team. It was obvious the team would play for him.

I like his whole story. His mother dying while he was in college. No one giving him much of a chance in college and the pros. But the one thing that stood out to me besides his ability as a top NFL QB was when he got hurt last year and how all his teammates rallied to his side. I’d never seen such emotion from the players over an injured player. It was the nail in the head about something I already knew in that he was a leader. Someone the players will play their *** off for. Some people just have it and some don’t. We’ve all seen it in life especially those in the military. There’s some you’ll go to extreme lengths to support them and then there are those you’d frag. That type of leadership that Dak has accompanied with his QB skills will give this team a chance every year. But like any great QB, this is a team sport and you have to be strong in all 3 areas not to mention coaching to take it all the way.

I like him. Not sure if he can win a championship, was never sure about Romo either, but both were/are saddled with a dysfunctional organization and flawed teams with bigger weaknesses than the quarterback.

But it's the NFL, so the QB takes most of the blame when things fall short. They often get too much credit for winning as well, so it cuts both ways.

You react to the Dak extremists on this board and engage in countless posts and while they are entertaining, its pointless.
Most posters here are educated in team dynamics enough to understand basic concepts of how the Cap works and they dont hate Dak, they understand that he is a talented still young franchise type that if you have one you end up paying them if your not ready to bail, like the Eagles and the Rams.
I dont have to build a shrine for Dak to like Dak,, and I pray that he succeeds, but I also dont have to hate Dak to know that I have already seen certain ceilings in his game that should be higher .. hope Im wrong and the Cowboys are right.

I like and respect him because as a 4th rd pick he was able to step in day 1 when Romo went down and helped lead this team to a 13-3 record when most thought we did not have a snowballs chance in hell of winning that season with Romo gone. I have watched him develop from what some called a dink and dunk to a guy who can make the big plays down the field as well as taking it on his own to run if need be to help his team win. He has shown the leadership and dedication and those things go a long way with me. Like Romo he is always looking to improve himself as a QB. I don't know if he will get that ring but I do think he is capable of it and I think his play will only improve over these next few years.

@DFWJC Fans often use emotion to like or dislike a player. That is ok in my book for fans to take a liking to a player for whatever emotional reason.

Front offices and GMs, on the other hand, need to take emotion out of the evaluation and contract negotiations as much as possible. Problem is Jerry liked Romo and likes Dak as a person and I think that clouded his judgement. This could have major repercussions on the field for the next 4 years. Hard for managers to rate a subordinate if the two are friends.

I only care about what the players do on the field and prefer to judge them that way. I don’t care if Dak is a good guy or not. I only care about players off the field behavior if it could result in a suspension.

On the field I like that the players respect Dak as a leader. I liked the way he ran the run-pass option early in his career. I like the way Dak never gives up and never pouts on the sidelines when things aren’t going well.

Dak’s passing accuracy and audibles/football knowledge are slightly better than average overall in my opinion.

Like.....He is good enough to win with, and I believe he eventually will. He can throw downfield with anyone, and the players believe in him as a leader....genuinely. I also believe Garrett held him back in certain ways. I honestly think his best ball is ahead of him.

Dislike......Too many times I've seen a first down in front of him via his legs, but instead he pulls up and aims a short, uncatchable pass at a receiver, killing a drive. There was very little of that in 2016, his best season.

There were 2. One. When we were playing Pittsburgh in his rookie year and he sidestepped a tackle, stepped up in the pocket and dropped a dime to Dez for the long TD. (something we were all told he couldnt do) The throw was incredible his poise in that situation was incredible, and Romo knew at that moment he was never starting for us again. 2. The long run for the first down against Seattle.
