So they're gonna roll with Dak and Cooper Rush? Great plan.......

Average starter and terrible backup. What could go wrong?

Are you still questioning if they are "rolling" with Dak?...lol nope they paid him big money just in case they can't find a backup that could push him to the bench....lol

Waived - A non-vested player (less than four years of service) who is terminated goes through waivers. When he is released another team can claim him within a certain period of time. ... A vested veteran released this time of year is free to sign with any team.

waived players must wait 24 hours to go through the waiver wire to be placed on the PS

I don't get why we don't just cut Cooper Rush too and roll with 1 QB on the roster and make room for someone else? We already know that Cedrick Wilson can throw in an emergency situation, and in that case we'd probably just hand it off most downs. If Dak goes down we're gonna lose anyway so why even carry a mediocre backup?

That's interesting. Not shocking, but at mildly surprising. I hope that means they plan to bring in another veteran, but it could be it will just be Rush and DiNucci

He'll be the p.s. quarterback....

They MUST be going after a veteran backup. Even as senile as Jerry is there is no way McCarthy is not raising hell about getting SOMEONE.

Re-doing Zeke's contract would also indicate that, though not for certain....

Big mistake if they are actually going to roll with Rush over Garrett. Big Big mistake.. Rush is completely useless.
and you on your keyboard know more than the guys that see him everyday, evaluate all the qbs ON FILM EVERYDAY, AND SIT IN ON MEETINGS WITH THE qbS EVERYDAY. So if you can know more than the actual coaches, then it shows who the coach is really does not matter.

Man any vet who has won some real games would make me feel better about the backup to be honest...
we were all ecstatic we brought in Andy Dalton last year... he was easily the best back up qb we could have imagined heading into last year. How did that work out? Save the money and roll with Rush, because if Dak goes down the season is over anyways.

Incredible.

the Cowboys just only wanted to invest in scrub Garrett Gilbert, based off one reg. game (and not like it was Garrett thanksgiving vs GB).. instead of exploring the offseason, for at least legit competition. And now that invested scrub is cut from the team.

Screwd, organized NFL teams just don't do that.

We still have the Brick Wall mentality - we have to hit a reality brick wall to finally think of addressing a need area.

With the current situation, I agree. However, Dalton didn't have a full camp due to the pandemic, so I think that had at least something to do with his average at best play. And don't forget no Collins and Smith, few with Martin. That also had a lot to do with it.

Of course camp is now over, any vet brought in would be the same shoes as Dalton was, except possibly he'd have a better line in front of him.

Should have brought in a vet instead of trying to see if Rush, that they already released once, or the FCS DiNucci could handle the job. I still think Gilbert has potential, think he'll make the p.s. if not picked up by somebody else.

I'd still try to get a vet despite camp and preseason being over, hopefully Dak won't go down, or if he does it's long enough after the vet gets here and learns the offense a bit....

You gotta give credit to Cooper Rush. The man is the Backup QB Slayer...he beat Kellen Moore in 2017, ended the Mike White Era, and now might have finished Gilbert's NFL career. If McCarthy hadn't drafted his guy DiNucci last year, Rush never would have left too

I don't have to be in the meetings to see that Rush is useless. It's simple, Dak likes Rush so Rush got the job, not because he is the best option. Rush limits the Offense, Garrett has a better arm and more playing experience, but Dak wanted Rush so that is who he got. I think its a big mistake. Sue me if you don't like my opinion.

I agree if he does go down for an extended period, If they can grab a vet who can win a Half or 2 if needed, I'm ok with that also.

How about if Dak misses a game or two? Rush is a guaranteed loss. How about a back up with a pulse so you don't necessarily give away a game or two?

Rush has played in 5 games, Gilbert 7. 2 games isn't enough to matter, just to clarify.

I prefer Gilbert as well, if for no other reason than Rush was let go by Dallas before, if he wasn't good enough to be a backup then I don't see what he's done to make him backup worthy now.

But really you could keep either one and end up with about the same quality level, they're like option 1A and 1B....

For some reason this dude wouldn’t let the ball go. The hesitation killed his chance.
