Relying on Collins has become a big liability. You can't count on him.

I'd move on after the season and find his replacement

The players really should knock off smoking weed and just stick to the jars of opiates available at the buffet line in the trainer's room.

Yup because as long as it's prescribed it's safe. The NFL doesn't care about these guys.

https://nflpaweb.blob.core.windows.net/website/2020-Policy-and-Program-on-Substances-of-Abuse.pdf

[pages 12-14]
1.5 Intervention Stages
1.5.1 Stage One
Testing: In Stage One, the Medical Director may, in his discretion, require a Player to submit to testing for Substances of Abuse as often as is required to evaluate the Player adequately...
(c) Discipline
If the Medical Director, after consultation with the Medical Advisor, determines that a Player in Stage One has failed to cooperate with the evaluation process or fails to comply with his Treatment Plan, the NFL Management Council and the NFLPA shall be notified and the Player will be subject to a fine equal to two-seventeenths (2/17) of the Paragraph 5 amount in his NFL Contract, and he will be advanced to Stage Two...

1.5.2 Stage Two
Testing: All Players in Stage Two will be subject to unannounced testing subject to the terms of this Policy. At the sole discretion of the Medical Advisor, a Player may or may not be tested; however, if he is tested, he may not be tested more than ten (10) times during any calendar month.
(b) Duration
A Player will remain in Stage Two until such time as he is discharged by the Medical Director following assessment and determination. Such determination shall be based on the Medical Director’s professional judgment regarding the Player’s compliance with the Program, clinical progress and negative testing record.
(c) Discipline
A Player in Stage Two who violates the Policy will be subject to discipline by the Commissioner as set forth below:
Failure to Cooperate with Testing or Clinical Care
1st Violation: 1-week’s salary
2nd Violation: 2-weeks’ salary
3rd Violation: 3-weeks’ salary
4th Violation: 3-game suspension
5th Violation: 4-game suspension
6th Violation: 8-game suspension

7th Violation: banishment for an indefinite period of at least one calendar year

Stage Two players can be tested up to ten times per month. It may seem excessive to anyone other than the player and Medical Advisor but it is policy.

My question is where did the FIVE game suspension come from? Or has Collins' suspension since been clarified as either a 4-game or 8-game suspension? Those are the only discipline tiers for suspension above and below a "5-game suspension."
Not only that if he’s missed seven test after the fourth one why wasn’t he suspended then because according to the chart after four Miss he gets a three-game suspension did they skip that step altogether

Full story or not, the fact is Collins is out over a month.

And DeShaun Watson remains on the Texans' roster. I know he's not playing, but just think about the absurdity.

What happened to the appeal process? These guys used to get the suspensions cut in half almost every time (aside from Zeke)

As I understand it, La'el's case is under appeal. It seems the powers that be aren't in any special hurry to expedite it.

Why did he miss the tests. What in the world made him think that these tests were his most important obligation that week and every week.

This will cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. It will cost him the trust of the coaching staff and maybe even the team. Speaking of which, his teammates weren't important enough to him to go take the test?

And let's not be naïve. People usually miss drug tests because they fear the outcome or they know with absolute certainty what the test will reveal.

When you miss a test they treat it as if it was a positive because if they didn't, then players would skip the test if they suspected a positive, pay their fine, and continue with their usage.

If he isn't guilty of attempting to hide drug use then he is guilty of being dumb, selfish, inconsiderate and irresponsible. I don't know which I dislike more.
