When Collins comes back, he needs to replace the LG. Williams, like one poster already said, has too many penalties. Collins played LG for us when he was a rookie, and the way Steele has played has been phenomenal, especially for an UDRFA

I would leave that up to Philbin and staff, I do think if you were going to make any changes along the OL this would be the time to do so with a bye week.

After the Bye I think you'll see:
Smith - McGovern - Biadazz - Martin - Collins

Biadazz is a developing player, he may look really solid in 2 months...same for McGovern at LG.
This is realistic. Then Steel is your swing Tackle.

Steele has been solid and he has been aided by Dak's quick release and escapability and playing next to an all world RG, he is not as good as Collins.
Look at how many times he has a TE covering his right side to block. This isn't really Steele doing a good job on his own. It's a whole lot of smoke and mirrors that won't be needed any longer with Collins back.

Steele has worked so hard and done so well. Handing that job to a guy that hasn't proven himself this offseason to be trustworthy is dumb. Steele deserves a chance to start after the bye. He earned it. Collins needs to reprove himself IMO.

Ah, no. More talent with Collins. FWIW, I would put Collins at left guard and let Steele man RT. That's the best lineup based on pure talent.

The thread title implies entitlement. I don't believe in entitlement. Collins is a better Tackle than Steele and I always believe in putting the best players on the field.

LG yes..at RT Steele has done nothing to lose that job. Collins has done nothing to show he should be the RT. Is he in game shape? I highly doubt it. Is he more talented? I have my doubts after seeing Steele maul people.

The most important thing is we appear to have our swing tackle (assuming he can also step up at LT if needed) and knowing Smith can go down at any point this is huge for us. But, I do think people are overrating how well Steele has played a little. He has been good, but he has been beat as well and he isn't as good as Collins has been in the past. I guess we will have to see if Collins is the guy who played horribly in the preseason or the guy who played really well week 1 in Tampa in a tough spot. Regardless, this is a good problem to have.

Steele has earned himself an extension once the season ends. But right now, Collins is and will be the starting RT.

Feels like we are punishing Steele. Then rewarding bad actions by handing Collins his job back...nuthin earned. I hate that.

Steele doesn't draw holding calls like Collins. He is very sound this year with his technique. Why fix something that isn't broke? I think its risky. What does this do to Steeles confidence if the rug is pulled from under him? What happens to his confidence the next time we call on him? Will he trust the staff to trust HIM?I have some doubt. MM really luvs Steele. I can see why.

Is Collins REALLY more gifted? I haven't seen it this year. I think its assuming way 2 much.

Performance. Steele's improvement has been a revelation but Collins is still a better player. JMO.... We'll see what Philbin and McCarthy say next week.
My main issue is the optics and messaging this decision sends. They gotta get this right. Steele is a real young dude and might be a bit fragile mentally. Hes just now feeling his oats and getting his groove on.,...taking him out NOW may affect him badly. I say we see what he does against Minny. If he doesnt do well, THEN install Collins. I think hes earned that right.Collins in shape? Is he in game speed?

steele can't be left on an island much by himself. it doesn't mean that they don't. but he does get a lot of help. to that point, as a swing tackle/back up tackle he has done a great job.

You guys are comparing Steele to a younger healthier Collins who was hungry for a big money deal. You should be comparing Steele to the Collins of today. A broke down injury prone drug addict who loves his bank account and hates football.
