You can say 4 of 7 were top 12, I can say 4 out of 7 were pick 10 or later. Regardless, saying you must tank is clearly not borne out by the last 20 years. Regardless, I'd take a QB in the first round until I felt like I found the guy. And if that meant enduring a couple/few terrible seasons I would gladly pay that price. It's what the Cowboys did last time they had any actual success after all.I totally get your point...
I don't deny the fact that the odds are better in winning the superbowl with a 1st round QB....the odds are 7/63 based on QBs drafted since 2000, which is the period you mentioned. and of the 7, 4 were top 12 picks....so chances of finding one in top 12 is much bettter than lower in the round. just the odds, as you have focused on odds to make your point.
but are you ready to tank so that we get a top 15 pick and chances of getting a better QB and perhaps having to do it a couple of times to find the right QB. of the 47 QBs taken in the top 15, 4 have been to superbowl.....
I am not opposed to drafting a QB in first round. I have said it several times. but drafting a QB lower in the round has lesser chance and most good QBs go in the top half of the round....
so lets dump players. cut them and lets draft a QB in top 10 of the draft. if that leads us to a superbowl.....
