at the time we Had Danny White in his prime. He went on 2 take Dallas to multiple NFC Title games. If just 1 of those games turn out differently, He would be in the hall. He was plenty good. I see why we passed on Montana. Danny was $. The issue was the aging Defense.

The Cowboys also had Glenn Carano who they drafted with a second round pick a year earlier in 1978. They still had hopes for him at the time. No one knew that the 1979 season would be Roger Staubach’s last year.

Marinelli had become senile at that point. No way we should have listened to his Taco clamoring

It’s an attempt at a broad brush, get out of jail free card, used when ‘their team’ makes a mistake. A built in defense mechanism because they can’t handle harsh truths and feel compelled to make excuses.
That is pretty much exactly what I've observed.

To add, the hindsight moniker is generally used by lazy fans who don't want to analyze anything.

This isn't hindsight by most. Many many people were screaming for Watt at draft time.
I think you may have missed my point.
All teams miss in the draft.
Dak lasted until the 4rd round.
Brady lasted until the 6th round.
All picks are calculated gambles.
We overall have done better than most teams
So I am happy with that.
Not gonna rue over a particular miss.

I doubt we would have drafted Parsons if that were the case.

at draft time Taco had more twitter followers....

I'm sure that played into the decision...

and having the super duo linebacker core of Parsons w/ Watt.......even greater than the doomsday defense of the landry era.....I cringe everytime I think about it Taco bum was selected instead of......could of should of.....but its great to ponder..
Taco and Wyatt play for the same team. So end this Taco and Wyatt comparison. The Steelers wanted both and got both.

You can't just say what if the Cowboys took Watt over Taco and then plop him on the current roster. So many other things would potentially change over making that pick. For one D Law would likely be gone by now. I doubt the Amari trade ends up happening. That is just the tip of the iceberg though. Every pick and free agent the Cowboys have acquired since could potentially be changed from the ripple effect of picking Watt. For all we know, Watt makes the Cowboys just good enough that Garrrett is still here lol.

Fans would be complaining about paying him and all of the other guys.

Which brings us to the most relevant point. Bad personnel moves have major repercussions, often costing the team dearly for years. Which is why Jerry being the GM hurts us so badly.

Maybe you should have offered the services of your crystal ball so Jerry, being the GM would not hurt us so badly. ;)
