Guys who I think will be cut

After looking at the cap charges for next year, our current cap situation, and their production....here is who i think will be cut (or traded) barring some renegotiation.

Amari Cooper- By cutting him we will save 16 million on the cap. No way he can play under this deal with our current cap situation. I think a trade is a strong possibility as his base of 20 mill can be renegotiated by the new team easily.

D Law- We will save 8 million by cutting or trading him. I think there is a chance we can trade him but we can't afford to pay this guy his 27 million dollar price tag this year for his lack of production.

Tyron Smith- We will save 5 million to cut him. This one is tough because his price tag is still low at 12 million. It will depend on how we feel he can be replaced and if we need that 5 million.

Greg Z- We will save 2.5 million...no brainer.

I will not be surprised if all 4 of these players are not on the team next year, what do you think?

Here's the problem.

Lawrence is your best DE. You cut or trade him, what are your options? You will have an anemic pass rush/defensive end play in 2023.

Same with Smith. What's your option next year? Just assuming you can draft his replacement seems silly because of where you are picking.

The only one of the big names on your list - Cooper - seems like a realistic possibility largely because they have Lamb and could bring back Gallup and still have a really good WR corps.

I think they are all here, restructure on Lawrence, salary to bonus for Smith. Fassel will win the Zuerlien case.

Cooper may be in question depending on how the OC situation shakes out.

Either way, Jerry loves his WRs, the interior lines be damned.

Ask them to take a cut and add a year....if not, cut them. I usually would not agree with this, but we need money to bring in some players. Cut Coop and keep Gallup? Cut Lawrence and keep Gregory? Gonna be interesting....

Lawrence isn't going anywhere and I doubt neither will Tyron. He's got a team friendly deal.
Why do you think a guy severely underperforming his 27 million dollar contract isn't going anywhere?

These are the type of guys who get cut in this league....only when we do things like being overly loyal do we keep guys like this on the books. I just don't see how we bring him back at this pricetag.

He is when Parsons isn't lined up there...that is true. BUT....by cutting him you can use that money to get Gregory back. Then you will be able to have a solid DE rotation with Parsons playing there on occasion as well.

With our cap...i just don't see how he survives.

Cooper should be gone. Listening to Jerry talk about him, he doesn’t sound like a guy that wants to pay that guys salary. And rightfully so.

I think Gallup becomes an option to come back on a 1 year if Coop has to go, which really seems like that will happen. He is a good trade option as he still is a good player and we will save money by trading him. He just has to agree to a new deal witht he team we trade him to.

I hate getting rid of him because he is our best wr...but I just don't see how we keep him.

I think he will restructure it to stay.

If he refuses he is gone.

I mentioned this before the last draft that his contract was a problem entering 2022. We are in those fluff years at the end that the team nor player ever expects to see.

Tyrone Crawford aside that is.

Because he's not as underperforming as you think. He's a very good run stopper and he still has a decent to good pressure rate. Stop looking at just sacks.

Also, subtracting him from the DE spot, with Gregory also a FA, leaves you with one of the worst DE situations in football.

But let's go with this. You cut Lawrence and save $8 million. How do you plan on fixing DE? All you have under contract is Golston and Basham.

So you want Gregory over Lawrence even though Gregory will also be 30 during the 2022 season? Lawrence showed why he was missed when he returned. We don't have a DE like him on the roster who can anchor his side with discipline. Gregory is a bone head.

He's very fundamentally sound.....but, yeah...we have to make a few changes.

Solid DE rotation? Gregory isn't as good as Lawrence.

Your rotation would be Gregory, Basham, Golston. I guess you bring Armstrong back. Parsons in obvious pass situations.

That's a horrible DE rotation on downs Parsons isn't rushing the passer. Sorry, it just is.

If you cut em you have to replace them, which could cost you just as much to bring in a competent FA replacement.

If we lose those players they’ll be replaced with lesser, cheaper players.

Yeah this is very 2017ish as far as the receiving room goes

Not even close.

Gallup should be fine as ACLs aren't death sentences. So if you cut Cooper, bring back Gallup and Wilson and maybe add a cheap solid vet, you should have more than enough at WR.

I think you make a lot of sense. Jerry is the problem.
